Dear Readers of TAN Closing to another week, with camps finished and school getting back into normal routine. Good luck to the students who are participating in the Country High School Athletics in Temuka today, and hopefully having fun! As for next week, we have our own Athletics meet on Tuesday, and on Friday more tournament practices are to come. Have a fun weekend and see you next week! Zane Morris-Bamber, Head Boy Friday Kai Day Update So far we have had no response to our plea for a new Kai Day Team. If you are keen to see the Kai Day initiative continue, and are interested in coming up with some healthy lunch options for our students once a week, please think about getting together with a friend or two and giving it a go! Ingredients are mostly ordered through Bidvest and delivered to the school, and the meals are prepared and collected from the Home Economics Room. It is mostly Junior School students who order, with a smattering of Middle School students and Staff orders each week. Riverside Junior Soccer Club Registrations close next Friday, 20th March. Kia Ora and Welcome to TAN. A special welcome to Year 10 student Marinus Buys, who hails from South Africa. We trust you are settling in well to your new school, Marinus.

Week 6 of the term, and it has been a busy week for both students and staff. Mr Feasey has attended meetings in Roxburgh to discuss our school’s involvement in the Ministry of Education Community of Schools project. On Tuesday and Wednesday Mr Feasey and Mrs Potter attended the Canterbury and West Coast Principals’ Conference outlining Modern Learning Environments. On Wednesday Mrs Nelson and Mr Potter attended the ALiM (Accelerated Learning in Mathematics) planning meeting in Christchurch. Today staff and students are at the Country High School athletics meet in Temuka, hosted by Opihi College.

Our school bus service has doubled to two routes. One starts at Omarama and collects students on the southern route, via Tussock Bend. The second route collects students from the north of the town, as well as Manuka Terrace. If your children are using the service please make sure we have your current mobile phone number so that the school and Pearsons Coachlines have contact details.

The Junior and Middle Schools had students representing Twizel at the Upper Waitaki Swimming Sports held in Kurow last Friday. The list of results, and names of those who qualified for the North Otago meet are detailed in this TAN. Well done to those students performing well at this level.

Students in the Middle School (Y7 to 10) have completed their outdoor education experiences. M1 was the last group to head over the hills, and returned safely to school last Friday. With three successful camps completed, classrooms are beginning to be adorned with the photos and writings recording the experiences.

Senior students are settling into their programmes of work for their subjects. Some have already submitted their first assessments for the year. Others are continuing their collection of evidence for assessments.

The postponed Twizel Area School Athletics will happen early next week (students will be informed tomorrow, as soon as the day has been determined). The postponement was due to the very dry condition of the track and field; hopefully the rain we’ve had since, and any more we may be lucky to get before next week, will make for more suitable conditions. Students qualifying can then go on to the Aoraki Athletics in Timaru later in the week.

The Life Education teacher and bus make a welcome return to the school next week, and students are no doubt looking forward to renewing their acquaintance with Harold!

I would like to give a ‘heads up’ for the annual Southern Area Schools Tournament that Twizel Area School will host in the third week of Term 2; 6

th, 7

th and 8

th of May. There will be about

150 extra students in town involved in the tournament, and we need to billet the visiting competitors. More information will come out as planning is finalised. Enough for this week…
