Просьба к «Одноклассникам»
На мой взгляд, газета подняла очень важную тему.Стремительное развитие социальных сетей шаг за шагом занимает территорию простойэлектронной почты. В связи с этим, количество преподавателей и студентов, активноиспользующих почту АУЦА, стало ещё меньше. Ведь из «Одноклассников» или другойподобной сети невозможно сделать переадресацию. Это неминуемо приводит нас кухудшению внутренней коммуникации.Я нарочно поставил в этом смысле преподавателей и студентов в один ряд. Объяснюпочему. Мне кажется, пассивное отношение студентов к mail.auca.kg во многом связанои с тем, что сами преподаватели слабо используют этот ресурс и предпочитают другие.Кроме того, многим удобнее, по разным причинам, пользоваться gmail, mail.ru илиyandex. Но мы ведь можем использовать две почты. Одна личная и другая – mail.auca.kg– рабочая.Казалось бы, нет ничего страшного, если студенты не используют нашу почту.Некоторые, кстати, выпускаются из университета, ни разу на неё не зайдя. Но проблемав том, что эти «некоторые» ничего не знают о жизни университета, лишают себяполезной информации о различного рода программах, предлагаемых международнымиорганизациями и анонсируемых через почту, о мероприятиях академического и неакадемического характера, которые проходят в университете, и о многом другом, чегонигде не узнаешь, кроме как через mail.auca.kg.Очень жаль, что наши студенты не могут осознать явной выгоды от того, что они будутоткрывать mail.auca.kg хотя бы один раз в день.Кто-то сказал: «Кто владеет информацией, тот владеет миром». Не лишаем ли мы себя,уважаемые господа, в какой-то степени, владения миром? Я понимаю, что в рассылках часто попадается информация не для всех, а толькодля какой-то части студентов, и многих это раздражает. Давайте попробуем что-нибудь
придумать и с этим. Давайте создадим рабочую группу, которая внесет своипредложения, как сделать почту АУЦА не только необходимой, но привлекательной иненазойливой.На своей паре в настоящее время я провожу эксперимент. Все домашние заданиядаю только через почту. Оценки тоже. Наверное, у других преподавателей есть ещё какие-
то способы мотивировать студентов открывать наш мэйл. Просто надо попробовать этона практике. Ведь мы муссируем эту тему лет семь, а не пробовали сделать что-либоконкретное, пусть даже не очень популярное, ни разу…

Elections for Student Senate are Coming Soon
Dear AUCA student community, I would like to say a pre-announcement about the coming Student Senate elections.
As a representative of the whole student body, Student Senate protects interests of students on different issues at AUCA. There are many branches, in which student representation is important (for example, Academic Senate, Intellectual Life Committee, Appeals Committee, etc.).
According to Article I of the Student Senate Charter: “Nine undergraduate full time students shall be elected by the whole AUCA student body to serve a term of one year”.
Regarding preparatory year student, he/she also has an opportunity to be elected locally by preparatory program students as well. But, during the whole term of serving in the Student Senate he/she will have a consultative voice in order to
represent their interests in Student Senate.So, if you have strong intentions and feel that you can contribute to AUCA student life
issues, whether they are academic or extracurricular, apply for this position and try your best. Each university needs its own student parliament based on united team members, which is able to make strong and adequate decisions in spite of different provocations which sometimes happen. That’s why the possibility for making your student government be developed and having a strong voice - is in your hands! You are the connecting link between the student community and administration. You will provide AUCA clubs with the budget, you will plan for any unforeseen circumstances, you will conduct the AUCA spring football cup tournament, you will represent the Student Senate in AUCA Committees, you will arrange the golden-mean for Juniors, you will support regional students with monetary bonuses, and many other things that can be done under your authority are recognized as your responsibilities.
So, all you need is your self-confidence, responsibility, desire to work in united team, and having a common goal and interest in developing AUCA student life!
Think for a while before making your decision about being a member of the Student Senate, because protecting students’ interests is a responsible mission where you have to be ready to face
many difficulties. Express yourself, start your candidacy, and run.
Important:
1) Registration for Student Senate Elections 2011 starts from October 10 till October 21.2) All necessary information (conditions, deadlines) will go through AUCA official email
and after receiving a general announcement, get the application form from the student coordinator, fill it in, and bring to room 104.
3) Right after registration, you may start your agitation campaign.

Student Senate ColumnDear AUCA students and staff
The Student Senate is glad to welcome you all in our column and share the latest news with the whole community of AUCA.
We appreciate your active participation during “Spirit Week” at AUCA, which was organized by the Students Affairs Office and help of the Student Senate. It was a great week, full of joy, happiness and a feeling of commitment to our university. Such events bring people closer and inspire each and every one of us to unite, socialize and share tons of positive energy. We thank everyone, who participated in the event and congratulate the winners of the competitions.
Last week the Student Senate held a meeting with the Vice-President of Academic Affairs, where we discussed some of the issues that were bothering our students. Mainly, we talked about the change of schedules and workload of the graduating seniors from the Economics department - ECO-108 students are going to be assisted with their work throughout the academic year; also, it was promised that all curriculum changes are going to be announced in advance. Such a concern as military service is still under revision and we will be providing full information in our next article.
Moreover, the Student Senate was kept busy working on preparations for the Student Senate Elections 2011. We came up with some changes in the application form and structure of the election process itself. All willing students are encouraged to follow our announcements and declare their candidacies for the Elections this fall. All the details and requirements will be announced in the beginning of October.
The current Student Senate works and focuses on the improvement of academic lives of AUCA students. We firmly support all your ideas and suggestions on topics concerning the university functions and performance of its main branches. Feel free to come and share your thoughts and issues to let us help you in the best way we can. Together we can make things happen!

Цены в Браво растут не по дням, а по часам. А разве пирожок Браво за эти деньги не должен быть в два раза больше?
Четверг, 1 сентября.Вышла газета. Никакой критики,
никакой серьезности. Я не против fun-а, но с некоторых пор Стар стал комиксом, героями которого являются все те же драмо-бравовские люди. Хотя разве это не наша (пассивных студентов) вина, что наше мнение так и остается с нами?

Business Administration Department Meets New Chair – Steven Lustig
Professor Steven Lustig has been with AUCA since August 2010, he works both in the law and business departments. He was born in Dayton, Ohio, and went to university at Cincinnati, Ohio, majoring economics and business. Then Steven Lustig went to Rutgers Law School in Newark, New Jersey (1982). In order to learn more about him, New Star’s correspondent visited the new chair at his first day of his work.
NS (New Star): Hello, professor Lustig. Congratulations on getting a new position as head of the department. How are you feeling about AUCA?
SL (Steven Lustig): Thank you. I enjoyed my first year very much; I liked the city, and the university. I started teaching both at law and business departments, I taught management for BA students and number of courses at law department. Students are open to learn more, and I like it very much.
NS: What are the first steps you will be undertaking at this position?
SL: I am really excited to be here, BA
department has a lot of strengths, and Robert Anderson [ex chair of BA] did a lot for that. I have been working hard to listen and learn as much as I can about the specific needs of BA students and faculty as quickly as I can, but so far I just plan to continue the polices in general. One important issue is a Bard College project and I am looking forward to continuing working on it. The department will be renamed to Business, Economics and Society (BES), and we are planning to finish all formalities in Fall 2012.
NS: So, how will Business, Economics, and Society (BES) program differ from the Economics Program? Will they be separate departments?
SL: Of course, they will be separate departments. There will be some additional courses at BES, but core courses like management, communications, marketing, or accounting, and other traditional business courses will stay in the curriculum.
NS: This year, three professors: Robert Anderson, Asel Kalykova, Elima Karalaeva – have left the university. If there will be any additional courses, how will you manage the
issue of lack of professors? SL: We certainly need new teachers,
also because next year we will increase the number of students of BES department. There is no present plan to hire additional faculty, however I will soon be reviewing the demand for BA courses from our students and other departments together, and also faculty load, in order to plan for Spring semester.
NS: Will you bring in young specialists to teach, like our alumni? And whom would you prefer: foreign professors or local?
SL: The BA Department has included young specialists in the past, and alumni would certainly be included in future considerations. And we plan to involve new professors, both foreign and local.
NS: Thank you, Professor Lustig. We wish you good luck. Do you have anything to add?
SL: Yes, I wish everyone success. I look forward for getting to know all business students and helping them succeed.

PROFILE:
Marital status/ family: I am married, and my wife’s name is Ainura. She was born and raised in Bishkek, and she moved to the U.S. in 1998. We met in Orlando, Florida in 1999, and we have a son, Daniel. He was born in the U.S., and is 7 years old. He currently attends 3rd grade at the Silk Road International School in Bishkek. We have lived in Bishkek for just over one year.
Languages you speak: I speak English, and conversational Russian (Не говорите слишком быстро), which I am working to improve. Also I want to learn Kyrgyz very much, but I have not yet progressed beyond «кандайсын» and «жакшы», «рахмат».
Favorite book: A biography about the second American President, John Adams by David McCoullough. I also enjoy science fiction, and loved reading anything from Isaac Asimov or Arthur C. Clark.
Favorite movie: I love movies and I will challenge anyone in movie trivia. I have to mention two films: my favorite U.S. film is “Star War” (the original) and my favorite international film is “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.”
Motto: Find the positive in everyone, even the cranky ones.
Favorite food: Anything with raspberries.
The most important choice in your life: Starting a family.
Robert Anderson’s wishes to new Head of BA department:
First of all, I should say that Steven was elected not by accident, so I think he will be a really good chair. People are wondering why a person connected with law is going to get this position, but I should mention that he has an excellent experience in business: Steven was engaged to business activity in the United States for sufficient time, and he knows laws, which is very important for doing any business. It was actually one of the reasons I chose him: I started accreditation issue, and last year we finally got approval, that means, at Fall 2012, BA department will be accredited. Steven is a key in this situation and he will be that one who will implement what I started. So my wishes to him will be to succeed in this beginning and enjoy working with our faculty, students and staff. Also I wish success to all students. I believe that entering AUCA was their best choice in life. It was pleasure to meet you all.
Place under the SunAUCA and Gulnura Toralieva, the Сhair of Journalism and Mass Communication Department,
present a new TV project with a catchy title “Place under the Sun” (“Место под солнцем”). This reality show is broadcasted every Tuesday at 22.15 on the Kyrgyz National TV Channel (ОТРК).
The program is aimed on young ambitious people who want to develop their promotion track.“Place under the Sun” helps youth in finding themselves both in life and career spheres. It
solves unemployment problems among people under thirty, assists in personnel recruitment transparency for the best companies of Kyrgyzstan.
“The working team of the project helps governmental and non-governmental organizations in finding out the personnel potential among the most talented and skilled Kyrgyz people with active civic stand,” Gulnura Toralieva comments the aims of her program’s creating. “The project cultivates the competition culture in jobs’ finding and assists in recruitment experience exchange among Kyrgyz companies,” she adds.
The project team helped to place in a job thirteen young people. AUCA Alumnus Anastasia Chirkova (ECO’11), the winner of the last program episode, now works at “Coca Cola Bishkek Bottlers” company as marketing specialist.
Applicants send their resumes to the mail box of the program and the best selected are invited to the studio for their competence live shooting.
One daily episode consists of the tale about applicants, their case solutions’ studio presentations, jury’s afterwards discussions and voting, interviews with experts in “Success Story” and “Career Building” headings.

Потому что я хорошо учусь только по тем предметам, которые мне интересны. Проблема, в основном, во мне. У меня порой возникает
ощущение недостатка мотивации. Иногда мне не нравится преподаватель или я вижу
его предвзятое отношение ко мне, и учить что-то уже не хочется по данному предмету.
Собираетесь ли вы улучшить свою успеваемость?
Я не думаю, что уже можно в корне что-то изменить. Но, конечно, хорошие оценки получить постараюсь.

Почему Вы не учитесь?Мне не интересно учиться. Пары
не мотивируют меня раскрыть свой потенциал. Мне кажется, что в нашем университете низкий уровень профессионализма. У нас для того, чтобы иметь GPA 4.0, не обязательно обладать аналитическими способностями, в нашем университете считают, что для высокой оценки требуется лишь
систематически посещать занятия и зазубривать весь материал. Как Вы считаете, что нужно сделать для того, чтобы
появилась мотивация учиться хорошо?Преподаватели должны быть более высокого уровня, способные
мотивировать студентов, чтобы у них появилось желание проявить себя. Должно быть больше интересных курсов. Было бы лучше, если бы в университете не было местных профессоров, не способных создать творческую атмосферу на паре и плохо знающих английский язык. Так как мы учимся в Американском университете, то желательно, чтобы преподаватели были носителями языка.

Почему Вы не учитесь?На уроках надо много
говорить, а я этого не люблю. В «силлабусах» пишется, что активное участие на парах оценивается в десять процентов от ста, хотя на деле получается, что
оно составляет пятьдесят процентов от основной оценки. Мне бы хотелось, чтобы преподаватели не заставляли говорить.
Собираетесь ли Вы улучшить свою успеваемость?
Да, придется. Буду стараться принимать участие в обсуждениях на парах, чтобы улучшить GPA. А вообще, я считаю, что оценки – это не показатель знаний. В первую очередь, нужно получать знания, и только уже потом обращать внимание на оценки, а то многие стремятся получить «А», а в голове – полный ноль.

Девятого сентября администрация АУЦА поздравила наиболее успешных студентов вручением похвальных грамот. В мероприятии, посвященному Дню знаний, также принял участие струнный квартет «Ника», представивший гостям вечера свои лучшие произведения. Церемония завершилась праздничным фуршетом.
Однако не у всех «ауцашников» высокий GPA. Почему одни студенты учатся, а другие нет? В чем секрет успеваемости отличников? И можно ли с уверенностью сказать, что плохо учащиеся студенты просто не хотят учиться, или же нужно копать глубже?

- Мария, здравствуйте. Расскажите, как Вы стали отлично учиться?
- Вообще-то, все началось с детства, еще в школе я была отличницей. Когда поступила сюда, решила не сдавать позиции.
- Нравится ли Вам будущая специальность?- Да, я очень рада, что оказалась именно здесь, потому что
поступала практически наугад, до последнего момента раздумывала, какую профессию выбрать. И решила поступить на факультет администрации бизнеса, потому что это популярная и нужная специальность в наши дни. Сделала удачный выбор, учусь уже четвертый год, и мне все очень нравится.
- С чем еще приходится совмещать учебу?- С работой в университете. Я работаю в WARC. Дома уделяю время хобби. Последние несколько месяцев
увлекаюсь посткроссингом – обменом открыток по всему миру. Также немного увлекаюсь гитарой.- Что собираетесь делать в будущем?- Хочу продолжить обучение и получить степень магистра. Но для этого требуется подготовка, поэтому
поступать буду года через два, а пока буду готовиться и работать в финансовом секторе.

- «Катиться» я начал еще в школе. Все классы, за исключением, одиннадцатого, учился на пятерки. А в одиннадцатом уехал по программе FLEX, так что в конце года пришлось наспех сдавать экзамены.
- С чем-то приходится совмещать учебу?- Ни с чем. Я такой скучный.… Играю на
гитаре. Люблю полежать.- С книжкой в руках?- Нет, читать я не люблю. Просто нужно много говорить и много
писать, это помогает.- А какие планы на будущее?- Сначала получить степень бакалавра, потом побывать в Штатах и
Европе.

- Больше нечем было заняться, вот я и посвятила себя учебе (смеется). Ну а вообще, важную роль в этом сыграл юношеский максимализм. Хотелось всего и сразу, а учеба – прекрасный способ самореализоваться, показать себя.
- С чем приходится совмещать учебу?- Иногда с работой. Я подрабатываю переводчиком.- А с чем еще? Может быть, есть какое-то увлечение?- Да нет, ничем особенно не увлекаюсь.- Расскажите, что Вы планируете в будущем? Наверное, отличная
учеба как-то отразится в дальнейшем на устройстве Вашей жизни?- Пойду на работу в частный сектор. Молодому специалисту нужно
строить свою карьеру, приобретать опыт. Думаю, этим я и займусь.

- Здравствуйте, Жамиля. Поздравляю Вас! Расскажите, как Вам удалось достичь того, что Вы теперь получаете награду за отличную учебу?
- У меня с детства такое рвение к учебе. Родители также оказали на это влияние, они всегда воспитывали меня как настоящую отличницу.
- С чем-то приходится совмещать учебу?- С работой, я грантовый ассистент. И еще
с полным отсутствием личной жизни, на это просто не остается времени (смеется).
- Может, у вас есть какие-нибудь увлечения?- Иногда слушаю радио, во время выполнения домашнего задания это
приходится как нельзя кстати. Еще я всегда стараюсь найти время для того, чтобы погулять.
- А какие у Вас планы на будущее?- Прежде всего, закончить АУЦА. Потом буду поступать на отделение
магистратуры – скорее всего, в Германии.

There are always two sides of everything: good and bad, funny and sad, normal and ….well freaky. By the end of this well-known AUCA event we decided to research why or why not our students took part in Spirit Week, how they liked it, and what impressions they all had. Why do seniors not participate in Spirit week? Why some students look at everybody who participate and think: “What a Stupid Week”? And what is all about to understand: who are “freaks” and who are “normal.”

September 28, 2011 Issue 26IS AUCA MAILBOX USEFUL?
Not every university has its own mailbox. AUCA does. But it also has some problems, which disturb students who use the mailbox. So, we decided to figure out whether students check their mailboxes or not, the reasons why, and what ways to improve the mail server they can suggest. In the future, it can be useful information to improve the mailing system.
Questions:1. Do you use AUCA mailbox? Why or why not?2. What improvements to the AUCA mailbox can you
suggest?
Sabina Isakeeva, ANTH-1111. Yes, I check it every day because all my teachers say that
there is a lot of information that can be helpful to me. Other students do not check it, because there are many other mailboxes, for example, mail.ru, yahoo.com, gmail.com, which are more interesting and convenient.
2. Improve the design, change an interface, for example, to create a chat like Facebook, or make it possible to upload the photos like in Gmail, because now the AUCA mailbox seems so unfriendly.
Nazgul Shayakhmetova, BA-1101. Yes, I check it every time when I’m in labs.I think, other people do not check their AUCA mails because
they think there is nothing interesting or useful information, but it’s not so. Actually there is a lot of news about the lectures with invited guests, or about some grants and opportunities to study in the US, for example.
2. I think it’s all about the student. Until he can understand the real importance of checking his mailbox, nobody can make him do it.
Aiyma Usubalieva, ICP-1101. I do not check it, because all the information I need I receive
on my other mail that I give teachers and note in all blanks. Thus, I do not need the AUCA mailbox except the cases about the grants, new clubs and all that stuff. (But actually I forgot my password)
2. Not to ask for alternative mails and send all course information to the AUCA mailbox.
Julia Choi, PSY-1091. I don’t. There is too much information that I don’t need in my
AUCA life. It is very rare I find something useful for me.2. I think all information should be ordered by categories, for
example, I often receive the messages to students from law or economics departments when I’m neither a law nor economics student.
Nurbek Nurbekov, IBL-1111. I never checked it because I don’t know how to sign in. Every
time I try to do it there’s always a system error.2. Since I never saw it, I don’t know what the disadvantages of
the mailbox are. So I cannot think of any useful suggestions.
Timur Dzhishambaev, BA-1091. I haven’t checked it for 2 years but started using it this year
because all my teachers make me do so.2. I suggest creating a system - every time you log in in the labs
the mailbox opens by itself so that a user willy-nilly will see the messages.
Nursultan Ulukbekov, ECO-3081. I didn’t care about it initially and it has become a habit not
to check the mailbox.
Djanay Ilyasova, SOC-1081. No. Because I think the senders send too many messages
that many students are not interested in. 2. I suggest remaking the mailbox into a social network with
short messages and photos.
Kanykei Omuralieva, BA-1081. I use it not very often, because it is more convenient for me
to use my Gmail account2. There is limited space in the AUCA mailbox, so, I have
to delete all the stuff in order to receive new letters, it is quite inconvenient.
Maya Gasanova, JMC-1091. I do not use my AUCA mail, because it’s not comfortable
enough2. At least it would be better if it had groups like Gmail, and a
better design
Karima Rahimova, BA-1081. I use AUCA mail very frequently. I don’t like the interface
and overabundance of «mailing» plus, most professors ask
students to hand in hard copies of assignments, so there is no need to send the assignments via mail, and if such need occurs, I submit the assignments through the e-course system. AUCA mail is very inconvenient.
2. It would be better if students were given an opportunity to sign up for «mailings» from different offices by themselves. Because there is a lot of information, which is addressed to a particular department, which students from other departments do not need.
Adilet Kanymet, BA-1091. Yes. I often use AUCA mailbox. There is a lot of useful
information, like job opportunities, internships, and different conferences. This information I cannot find with other resources.
2. But there is also unnecessary information, and some e-mails are sent several times a day. So, there is no space for getting new messages. It would be better to increase space on AUCA mailbox.
Hislat Juraeva, ECO-1081. Yes, I like AUCA e-mail, but now I do not use it because
when it was updated it became not so comfortable to delete unnecessary messages. I cannot receive new messages, because of that.
2. I think it would be better to make a button, which can mark and delete all messages.
Esen Rysbekov, ICP- 1081. I do not use it properly. If we make three mistakes in our
password we have to go to IT office and change it. Also i do not like design. I dont undertand how to use it. It is too complicated.
2. It should be more simple, like gmail, for example.
So we can conclude that students mostly want the AUCA mail server to look like a social network, to make it more interesting and pleasant to use. Also students do not like that there is often no space for new messages, and they are confused with unclear interface. It would be better for them to increase the memory in the mailbox, and make it clearer to understand.
In the next issue you’ll be able to read the feedback from the IT-masters if it is possible to satisfy students’ needs about improvement of the AUCA mail server.

Bard College Exchange Program Participants Share Experience
How do you like Bard College?
I find Bard College as a place where I can learn and develop in all my spheres of interest. I really enjoyed the time I spent in Bard College. I loved both academic and extracurricular life at Bard.
Academically, Bard College is intensive and challenging. The most important thing I learned is that I understood how I should study to achieve my academic goals. As for an ICP student, it was very interesting for me to study in Bard College, and take courses from professors who had worked their entire lives in the International Relations field.
Also, Bard College has students from all over the world, and I had a chance to learn from them about different countries in the world and their cultures.
Another awesome point about Bard College is that it has a fabulous extracurricular options. Dance, sports, debates, music bands and many others.
Bard College is located not that far from New York City. So, on weekends students can easily go there and explore this great cultural world.
What difficulties (in terms of studying process) did you have?
Bard College courses are 4 credit and require more work put into studying process. Basically, I had to do more reading, more writing and more participation. At first, it was difficult to get used to that workload and manage my time to keep up with the requirements. Though, with the advice and help of professors, I learned how I should study.
What did you like most of all?
Most of all, what I liked in Bard is Bard’s Arts program. Bard College has a great conservatory, has a student museum on its campus. Every month Bard students and faculty organize conservatory performances; they stage plays and dance concerts. Student bands perform their works. Bard College has a rich cultural life, and I really enjoyed it.
Also, every once in a while, world known artists come
to Bard College or to nearest towns with performances. For example, while I was in Bard College I was able to go to the New York Theater Ballet’s concert, and to see plays by different awesome theater troupes.
How Bard differs mainly from AUCA?
Bard and AUCA actually have a lot in common. Though, probably, the difference would be that Bard also provides majors in Performances (Dance, Arts, Sculpture, etc.) and 4-creadit courses instead of 3.
We hope, that this year other students will try this opportunity, and will have new experience and knowledge. More information about this program you can find by visiting on campus presentation on 28th of September at 3:30 pm, in room 312, where you will learn about the application procedure and will have a chance to talk to last year’s participants of the program.

Last year two students of AUCA got an opportunity to continue their studying at Bard College, New York, for two semesters. It is well known that our university was accredited exactly by this college, one of well-recognized educational institutions of the USA and an authoritative place in terms of Liberal Arts studying. As the selection of students to participate in this program and go to Bard College next year starts soon, one of those who had already experienced it, Asem Asfandiarova, agreed to tell about Bard College and the year she spent there.
When I was a president of Student Senate I had a chance to represent students and visit Bard College. Since then I was in love with this school. When I learnt that our colleges were going to have an exchange program I was so happy that I could apply for that. After several weeks I got an email from International Development office: “Congratulations, Esen. You are a Finalist of our program”.
I liked Bard College a lot. It is a great liberal arts school where professors pay close attention to individual development: academic and non-academic.
The most memorable part about Bard College is its location. It has a huge territory which is located in the middle of big beautiful forest. In campus you could find anything you wanted: Gym, theatre, cinema, tennis court, soccer field, American football field etc.
The level of education is almost similar but at Bard College everything was intense. Students there are very smart and serious about their studies. When you look at them it is very strange if you do not study. A person like me who did pay attention to studies at AUCA, now because a real “Botanik”. The only difficulty I had was that most cases/examples in books were about the US. To understand them I had to read extras.
Bard College and AUCA have many similarities with their rich cultural diversity. Bard College has many international students from all over the world. But the main difference between our Colleges, I think, is in its curriculum. You can find at Bard any class you are interested in. Most professors have PhDs and teaching experience more than 5-10 years which is another valuable advantage of Bard College.
If somebody asks me: Do you have a Bard Diploma?”, I can surely say now “Yes, I have it. Because I studied there”

Кажется, что только в анекдоте могли встретиться татарка, еврейка и узбечка, но волей судьбы именно в нашем университете люди самых разных национальностей становятся самыми близкими. Крепкая дружба Дианы Такутдиновой, Камиллы Муслимовой и Татьяны Реснянской тому подтверждение. Их история началась в Браво, где они по сей день любят посидеть поболтать и где их поймали корреспонденты нашей газеты, попросив поделиться секретами их успешной международной политики.
Диана ТакутдиноваО себе: Энерджайзер. По крайней мере, такой меня
считают мои подруги. Я люблю то, чем я занимаюсь – танцы, extra cur, антропологию. Не случайность, что я учусь на факультете антропологии: меня всегда интересовала культура, археология, а в девятом классе у меня даже была мечта стать этнографом. А из личного… ну, я боюсь духов! Даже могу заплакать, если что-то ну очень страшное про духов расскажут!
О танцах: Танцевать – значит отрешиться от всех мирских проблем и погрузиться в мир искусства, красоты, свободы и страсти.
Мне было три года, когда родители отдали меня в ансамбль «Таберик». Несмотря на протесты в начале, сейчас я уже никак не могу бросить танцы. В ансамбле у меня не было столько возможностей выражать свою индивидуальность, создавать свои варианты танцев, но с поступлением
в АУЦА все изменилось. Я поняла, насколько сильно люблю танцы, и даже поступила заочно в Институт искусств и культуры им. Б. Бейшеналиевой, где на данный момент являюсь третьекурсницей. По окончании института я буду квалифицированным менеджером хореографического коллектива. Также я организовала ансамбль татарского танца «Яшлек», который относится к Ассамблее народов Кыргызстана, там я хореограф.
Об АУЦА: Считаю, что, помимо учебы, надо обязательно участвовать в социальной жизни – без этого никак. Поверьте! Учеба в двух университетах и extra cur с первого по четвертый курсы – вещи очень совместимые! Главное – просто немножко забыть про усталость, про лень, и про дом. Не могу не поучаствовать в Diversity Week,
Initiation или не написать статью в New Star. Не забуду, как старалась собрать всеми правдами и неправдами всех татар и организовать теперь уже одну из самых ярких диаспор. Еще не забуду конкурс «Мисс АУЦА» на первом курсе, где я стала «Miss Fitness». Конечно, сначала огорчилась, услышав номинацию, но затем поняла, что еще обидней бы было упустить именно это звание.

Камилла МуслимоваО планах на будущее: Несмотря на то, что я узбечка,
моя семья вовсе не торопит меня с замужеством. Наоборот, они поддерживают мое стремление получить образование, и я намеренна поступать на магистратуру, работать и потом уже – создавать семью.
Об АУЦА: Меня не особо интересовала археология, но, поступая на факультет антропологии, я хотела узнать многое о культуре, о родственных связях людей всего мира. Я очень рада, что поступила в
АУЦА. Вообще, мое поступление было своего рода случайностью, ведь я уже готовилась стать студенткой КРСУ, но одна моя подруга рассказала о конкурсе Stream. Галя Калюжина (бывший арт-менеджер АУЦА) прослушала меня, и, несмотря на то, что кастинг уже прошел, я получила возможность пройти в следующий этап. В итоге, я получила не просто третье место и Scholarship – этот университет подарил мне внушительный багаж знаний, кучу ярких воспоминаний и самых лучших подруг. Мы с Таней, Дианой и Умидой стали очень близкими: приспособились к национальным особенностям друг друга (ну в смысле, к характерам) и даже пережили Work&Travel вместе.
О чем будет вспомнить: Juniors Ball! Во время подготовки к этому мероприятию мы сблизились со многими ребятами. Тогда я поняла, что мы потеряли многое из-за того, что не общались раньше – все они оказались веселыми, интересными, простыми людьми, и это не может не порадовать. Никогда не забуду репетиции вальса, сам вечер с его сумасшедшими танцами, впечатляющим слайд-шоу и нескончаемыми фотосессиями-обнимашками. Еще люблю Diversity Week – стараюсь не пропустить возможность поделиться с людьми своей культурой, своими традициями. И наш Orientation Week, который, конечно, был самым классным!
Спасибо: Моему любимому АУЦА и родной кафедре Антропологии, родителям и тем людям, которых я встретила здесь: моим дорогим девочкам за постоянные посиделки в Браво и дружбу, любимой Малике Бабаевой, очаровательной Жаннатке и моим любимым бурундукам!
Татьяна РеснянскаяО чем мечтает: Хочу переехать
в Израиль! Это моя этническая родина, и я хочу жить там со своими родителями. Мы путешествуем по Израилю каждое лето, и с каждым разом я все больше и больше хочу там остаться. Планирую окончить отделение магистратуры там в следующем году и продолжить изучать антропологию, причем хочу акцентировать свое внимание именно на культуре евреев, их обычаях, истории, родственных связях. Еще очень хочу этой зимой поучаствовать в студенческой конференции или проекте в Израиле.
О студенческой жизни: Конечно, одним из самых ярких воспоминаний остается конкурс «Мисс
АУЦА», в котором я участвовала на первом курсе вместе с Дианкой и Умидой. Несмотря на то, что репетиции отняли кучу времени и сил, мы получили огромное удовольствие. Вообще, я благодарна нашему университету за возможность выразить себя, показать свои таланты. Я получила третье место и звание «Miss Congeniality» – во многом, наверное, благодаря поддержке моих родных и близких: у меня была целая свита болельщиков, начиная с моей мамы, заканчивая мамой моего парня. Никогда не пропускаю social events, а на Diversity Week в этом году у меня особые планы. Вице-президент Бермет Турсункулова предложила мне собрать еврейскую диаспору, и я загорелась этой идеей!
Так что ждите, ребята, мы зажжем!
О любви: Любовь…ммм… У меня есть огромная любовь к моим близким людям, моему песику и, конечно же, себя любимую я тоже очень люблю – наверное, это видно… А вот Его, а то есть моей второй половинки, нет. У каждого человека должна быть вторая половинка, и я думаю, что рано или поздно это чувство под названием «любовь» посетит и мое сердце… Просто еще, видимо, не нашла того Единственного и Неповторимого, который будет терпеть меня, такую непростую и вечно возмущенную барышню. Ведь иногда, правда, так хочется сказать: «Я тебя люблю!» от всего сердца, а не “Я тоже”… Но почему-то мои амуры стрелять не умеют или просто они косоглазые. Берегите своих любимых – ведь, как ни банально, но любовь трудно найти (так же как и носок), но очень легко потерять, если вовремя не сказать: “Люблю”… Не будьте эгоистами и гордость иногда убирайте на второй план.
