One of my pet hates is when you ask someone, “How are you going?” and they respond, “Busy”. When did being busy become a way of describing how we feel? Many people think it is a badge of honour. I think it is a cloak disguising laziness. If you are busy all the time, then we can assume that you are not productive or very good at working to a time limit. Working hard and having a life that is full of adventure and teeming with vivacity is mandatory. Being busy doing nothing is a recipe for a stressed and overwhelmed existence.

Busy people: 1. Lack focus 2. Take on too much. Have not set clear priorities 4. Don’t know who they are 5. Are trying to please everyone

My daughters do not want a busy father and my wife does not want a busy husband. If I am constantly talking about how busy I am they will assume I have no time for them. Stop being busy and FOCUS. Everyone needs a list of things to do, but you also need to have a list of things you will stop doing. Be more selective in what you devote your time to, because time is your most valuable asset. Have your cross hairs squarely focused on your target. The pathway to productivity is built on the mantra 'less is more'.

BUSY CHALLENGE

Be selective in what you spend your time on this week. Take 5 minutes to write a To-Do List and Stop-Doing List for this week.FIRSTLY: Prioritise and get focused. Rather than writing a to-do-list with 30 items that is unachiev-able and will result in you feeling stressed and overwhelmed, write a to-do-list with 5 things that are 'must dos' each day. This will be achievable and keep you focused on what really needs attention. SECONDLY: Remove setbacks. Write on your Stop-Doing List 5 things that slow you down and set you back in achieving your tasks. Consciously making an effort to remove these setbacks will result in you meeting deadlines with greater efficiency and productivity. You will not be busy doing nothing but you will be focused, achieving every task on your list!
