As is our annual tradition; at Christmas time we visit, feed and treat the children at Don Bosco Children’s Home Kwinda

in Karen. Some of the management and staff of

Kingsway tyres get together to attend and assist in this CSR event. This is always a wonderful way of ending our year by showing our love to the Children.

Wishing you all a Happy New Year!

2011 was a successful year, and this year has started very well with great enthusiasm following the Annual Party and training for our senior staff.

I am proud to announce that this year we have come up with a theme to inspire us, “WE ACHIEVE TOGETHER”. Let me tell you a little bit of how we came up with this:We are an established company; having been in the tyre industry for over 50 years and having been steadily growing with now 17 branches countrywide and over 200 employees. We are constantly looking at new ways to improve ourselves and increasing our branch networks to get closer to our customers and serve them better. In this breath we strive to always improve our services so that our customer experience satisfaction and awe of the service we give to them. The customers who we

serve and how we leave them feeling becomes who we stand for. The word “Together” is used to get everyone identify us as “ONE”; “Achieve” in this context brings out the aspects of effort and prosperity. In conclusion WE ACHIEVE TOGETHER puts the company in improving and gaining what we set out to do in all aspects of our work and lives. With this, I would like to wish you all a successful year, 2012; this is our year.

Let me wish you a very special New Year with all of God’s blessings.I drove to Mombasa over the holidays and the tyres (265/70R16, Hercules Terra Trac A/T) you recommended for my Pajero were a great comfort and dealt very well with the bad state of the road in parts. At one stage I had to take to the bush as there was a serious crash near Mtito Andei which blocked the road completely. I was able to negotiate ground on the side of the road and get past safely. All I’m saying is that the tyres are wonderful and all credit to you for recommending that make.

All good wishesEffie

The Women’s tyre Clinic was fantastic! All the ladies got their hands dirty and changed a tyre. They got a feel of how it is done and that it is possible for a lady to do it ;) With that empowering workshop, I decided this is the tyre tip for this issue…Steps on how to change your tyre. So let’s get started!

It has happened that when you are driving you realize that you have a puncture or damaged tyre. The first thing to do then is drive slowly till you find a safe spot off the road to park your vehicle, preferably on a level ground. I have listed down below easy ways to do a quick check on tyre changing; it may even be helpful to put this in your car for quick reference.

» Preliminary step - Place life savers at least 20m front and back of the car; at night you can put on the hazard lights to make your vehicle visible

» Step 1 – Use stoppers at your wheels (wedge or stone); this stabilizes the vehicle.

» Step 2 – loosen wheel nuts

» Step 3 – place jack in the correct position (marked with notches under the vehicle body)

» Step 4 – remove the deflated wheel

» Step 5 – replace with your spare tyre

» Step 6 – replace the wheel nuts

» Step 7 – lower the vehicle back to the ground

» Step 8 – recheck & tighten the wheel nuts diagonally

» Step 9 – return the flat tyre to the boot along with along with jack and spanner

» Step 10 – remove the wedges and return the life savers back to your boot.

» Step 11 – look for the first opportunity to get your tyre repaired/replaced!

» Don’t forget – the donut tyre is a temporary spare (check warning messages indicated for speed and distance it can run); your best bet is to replace that with a normal rim and tyre of the actual size.

If there is anything unclear (like what is a notch, and how do I place the jack?) feel free to visit any of our branches countrywide and our TYREXPERTs will assist you with this information. Write to us and let us know how you like our newsletters. Your feedback is valuable to us.

Burst Tyre4 MBA students were drinking till late night and didn’t study for the test which was scheduled for the next day. In the morning they thought of a plan. They made themselves look as dirty and as weird as they could with grease and dirt. They then went up to the dean and said that they had gone out to a wedding the previous night and on their return they had a flat tyre and had to push the car all the way back. They pleaded with the dean to allow them to take the test at a later date. The dean being a just person allowed them to take the retest after 2 days. On the third day they appeared before the dean. All four were made to sit in separate classrooms for the test. They agreed as they had prepared well in the last 2 days. The test consisted of only 2 questions.

In November 2011, Amal Shah received an award on behalf of Manoj Shah for the Road Safety, Executive of the year award 2011 in

Vehicle Tyre category. The prize is instituted to award and honour the most distinguished individual achievements in Transport & Road Safety Sector, a person who has demonstrated a vision, flair, drive and business acumen to his business to the next level with safety in mind. With our continued efforts in promoting Road safety in many ways as an organization has taken us a long way in being recognized in this special gesture. Congratulations Mr. Manoj Shah!

APA Insurance held an Open day for the public at the Apollo centre, Westlands. We participated by offering all cars a

complimentary tyre check up. This included physically checking all tyres of the vehicle, noting their state and giving them advice on how to better take care of their tyres. Our aim was to

ensure that they get the info to increase their tyre life and be safe on the roads. Some of the customers were happy to receive free tyre services vouchers for their cars to be serviced at our Kingsway TYREXPERT Centre at Corner Plaza branch, Westlands.

Launch of Michelin XZM2 Stabil’X tyre. This tyre is a multipurpose tyre for containers transport for Reach stackers and Top Loaders. Our customers and media had a chance to be present for this and

learnt a good deal about the benefits of this new port tyre. Some of the benefits include Longer tyre life, better traction on al types of surface, lower fuel consumption and increased resistance to punctures/flats.

It was delightful to have our Gikomba customers join us for a coffee break in December. Together with our directors and

staff, we shared a good light moment and thanked

them for the continued support over the years. Tejal, Dharmendra and Alice did a great job of putting this together including the hot bhajias that Tejal and her team cooked up for us.

This December we held yet another Tyre Clinic, this one specifically geared to inform & educate the women folk. We

not only touched a tyre, but we looked at how to read tyre size, saw the benefits of Tubeless tyres to tube type tyres, and why its important to take care of your tyre. Headed by our Marketing manager, Reema Doshi the ladies learnt that their safety relies on the only contact the car has with the roads – the tyre. How much pressure is right, what is tyre balancing and alignment and why do it?What was even more exciting was that the ladies

got busy changing the car tyre, and yes there was a celebration there after!Looking at the car in wholesome we had AA of Kenya who presented “A look under the bonnet” and gave the ladies a few things they should check on before driving off. Last but not least we had Madam Beatrice Kiraguri – OCPD Loitoktok who joined us to share Road Safety tips for Ladies. The ladies left with smiles on their faces eager to share this information with their male counterparts.
