IT’S ADULT LEARNERS WEEK - PARENTS CAN BE AMAZING LEARNERS, TOO! Are you interested in furthering your education? Would you like to learn something close to home that fits in with your family commitments? If so, then you will join 110,000 other Victorians every year who are taking a course at one of 300 Learn Local organisations right across the State. There are courses and programs that can help you change careers, gain a qualification, improve your IT, maths and literacy skills or just learn something fun and new. A mum-of-three from Kaniva in the Wimmera recently won $5000 as Outstanding Learner of the Year at the Victorian Learn Local Awards. Lisa Stimson attends LINK Neighbourhood House in Kaniva and takes a Women in Ag course to help run her family farm. To find a Learn Local near our school access the following link: www.learnlocal.org.au TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT Parents are requested to be mindful of student safety before and after school in relation to traffic. Do not let your child leave the vehicle until the car is parked safely in the kerb. Frequently students are leaving vehicles whilst the car is on the road or at the roundabout which is very dangerous.
Please obey all traffic and parking signs outside the school.
Discuss with your child the need to use the School Crossings at all times.
Please do not double park in the streets outside the College when dropping off or picking up your child.
Do not park over the School Crossing lines, or over the drive ways of the local residents.
U Turns in Reema Boulevard and Hanna Drive must be avoided at busy times.
The college has requested for parking inspectors to patrol the school zones. Traffic police will issue fines for non-compliance of road rules including not obeying parking conditions. Your co-operation in these areas will be greatly appreciated.

NEIL HALL-OAKLEY 08/03/1998 TO 06/09/2012
Saturday 6
th September marks a sad day for the
Gleneagles community. Two years ago we lost a boy who gave his all to the Gleneagles Secondary College program. Neil Hall-Oakley was an energetic and enthusiastic student that loved his Carlton Footy team. He was always involved in the College extra-curricula programs being a member of the SAC Committee, regularly attending Homework and Breakfast Club Programs and helping out at fundraising efforts like the ‘5 cent drive’ (pictured). The second anniversary of his passing provides students an opportunity to reflect on your contribution to your school. The programs we offer are aimed at all different types of students and cater for a diverse range of interests. Using Neil as your inspiration, try to involve yourself in as many programs as you can. May we never forget Neil’s bubbly and energetic personality! Mr Leith, Year 8 Team Leader

R U OK? Day is our national day of action dedicated to reminding people to regularly check in with family, friends and colleagues by asking R U OK? By reaching out to one another we can support and help each other through life’s ups and downs. How Can A Conversation Change A Life? Research shows that people who have strong relationships are less likely to consider hurting themselves as an option when struggling with life. Regular face-to-face conversations can help us to build and maintain strong relationships with friends and family. Who Can Take Part On R U OK? Day And How Can I Start A Conversation? Anyone who knows someone struggling with life. If you're not sure still ask! Check out the R U OK tips at www.ruok.org.au What Is Happening At Gleneagles Secondary College? On Friday, 12th September, staff and students will be participating in a range of activities including at lunchtime a BBQ, small stall sales, a staff verse student soccer match in the gym.
