The Romans Are Here!

Year 3 finished their Roman topic last week with an invasion from parents, staff and children from the whole school!

Pupils from 3K & 3H proudly showed off their Roman homework projects and impressed visitors with their knowledge and understanding of all things Roman!

The exhibition was also supported by David Regan’s Grandad, who showed us his collection of Roman artefacts and passed on his enthusiasm and knowledge of the

Roman Empire.

Visitors to Year 3 were able to marvel at mosaics, stare in awe at amazing armour designs, gasp in amazement at miniature replicas of Hadrian’s Wall and Roman Temples

and read through booklets and fact files about Roman life.

A huge thank you to all the children, parents and grandparents for their enthusiasm,

time and skills in producing such wonderful pieces of work and for making this project such a great success!

Traffic Problems

Many parents have complained to school about the constant traffic

problems with parents parking across drives and on the zig-zag lines around school. We have contacted the local traffic enforcement officers, who have promised that they will be making regular visits

to ensure the safety of the children walking down Norwood Crescent.

We ask that all parents support us in keeping our children safe by

parking in the proper areas. There is always a member of staff on the playground to supervise the children from 8.30 am so there is

no need for the late dash that seems to occur by 8.45 am.

Please help us before an accident to one of our children occurs.

Last week’s competition was to design a Viking coin. Unfortunately there were no entries.

1st March 2011 was World Maths Day, so this week’s competition has a mathematical theme. Can you

create a maths crossword (or crossnumber) or mathematical vocabulary wordsearch? We will be

looking for mathematical accuracy and overall

presentation. Why not decorate your puzzle with maths images? Good Luck!

Pop your entries in the competition post box, outside

the hall, by Tues 8th March with your name and class on the back.

Q. What do you do In your spare time ?

A. Going to the Lake District and walking in the hills. As a family we used to water ski until they put a speed limit of 10 mph on Lake Windermere.(Katy Watkinson)

Q. Which aspect of your role do you enjoy most?

A. I enjoy being part of a great school and its staff. (Finn Cromack)

Q. What made you want to be a Governor of Norwood?

A. I was a pupil at the old Norwood school and both my daughters have been to Norwood. One of my daughters started at the old school. On the first day of the new school being open, all the children, staff and some parents meet at the old school and we all walked together to the new school. When Mr Milne locked the door for the last time it fell off. (Taylor McKenzie)

(One of your teachers used to be in my class at Norwood. Would any of you know who?)

Getting to Know Our Governors

This week Mrs Hilton took some time out of her very busy schedule to answer

some questions that our news team had put to her. I wonder if anybody can

answer her question?

A Team Match Reports

Farnborough 5 Norwood 5 (League Game)

After Farnborough had taken a 3-0 lead,it was Jamie Hough who scored for Norwood to make it 3 - 1. Farnborough scored again to make it 4-1 but Tom Langford and Tom Mitchell both then scored to make it 4-3.

Further pressure by Farnborough made it 5-3 with only eight minutes remaining on the clock. Norwood's never say die attitude was shown however as Daniel Lawrence scored a fourth goal for Norwood to make it 5-4 to Farnborough. Finally, in

the last minute a superb lob from Joe Edmunds beat the Farnborough keeper, with Norwood receiving their just deserves and a 5-5 draw. What an excellent game!

Man of the Match:Ashley GavanTeam: Aaron Rimmer, Jamie Hough, Jaydon Lavelle, Tom Stewart, Tom Langford, Tom Mitchell, Jack Wallbank, Daniel

Lawrence, Joe Edmunds, Ashley Gavan, Lewis Hitchcock.

Duddy Shield Cup game Norwood 7 Marshside 0

Goals from Tom Mitchell and Tom Stewart gave Norwood a super 2-0 lead in the first third. However, a magnificent continuous effort from Lucas Thaw, who scored the next FOUR goals for Norwood made it 6-0. Finally Tom Mitchell scored

again to make it a massive 7 nil victory for Norwood. Well done boys! Man of the Match: Lucas Thaw.

Team: Aaron Rimmer, Jamie Hough, Jaydon Lavelle, Tom Stewart, Tom Langford, Tom Mitchell, Jack Wallbank, Daniel Lawrence, Joe Edmunds, Ashley Gavan, Lucas Thaw, Matthew Van-Sprang Rimmer.

The next Duddy Shield cup game will be against the winners of St. Patricks and Linaker.

Norwood 0 Larkfield 2 (League Game)

After a close first third, Larkfield scored to make it 1 nil. Norwood continued to press for an equaliser and came close on many occasions. Excellent saves from the Larkfield keeper prevented a Norwood goal. In the final third, Larkfield pressed

again with Aaron Rimmer making some necessary saves to keep it at 1-0. This was until the last five minutes when Larkfield scored a thunderous shot from near the half way line to make it a Larkfield, 2-0 win. Better luck next time

B Team Football Matches Kew Woods B 2 Norwood B 2

First Norwood scored with a fantastic goal by Liam Healey. Five minutes later, Kew Woods equalised and they thought they were back in the game.

However Joe Rimmer's amazing shot was headed on by Harry O'Driscoll to Owen Taylor, who shot against the post. In the second half, Kew Woods took the lead despite some superb saves by Josh Watkins, including one

with his head! Just when Kew Woods looked like they were going to win, Daniel Monahan hit the ball into the net. The final whistle ended a very

exciting game.

Norwood B 0 Churchtown B 7 (Greenall Cup)

Churchtown ran out well deserved winners of this cup match as their superior passing was too strong for the B team despite Harry O'Driscoll going very close with a shot. Josh Watkins was the busier keeper and it was only Dannon Lavelle's terrific

defending, including an overhead kick off the line, which kept the score low.

Man of the Match: Dannon Lavelle

Team: Josh Watkins, Sam Peet, Dannon Lavelle, Jake Hawkings, Nathan Onyett, Joe Rimmer, Daniel Monahan, Liam Healey,

Owen Taylor, Harry O'Driscoll and Tom Lawson.

Fair Trade Assembly

This week the children had a special assembly by Lynne McAllister, who spoke about Fair Trade and how we can ensure that the farmers who

produce our food in different parts of the world get a good wage from what they grow. Some of the children acted out a scene to show how trade can

lead to farmers getting less and less money for their crops and how we can help them. It was really interesting and we are glad we know what we can

do to make it more fair.

Helpful Hints: Communication

It is really important to check your child’s book bag

each night after school. Newsletters are sent home ona weekly basis and we do send other letters and

communication as well. Staff are concerned at the

amount of what appears to be unread information leftin children’s bookbags each day!
