Submerged is almost here! We need your prayers and support
to provide a successful experience for that week. Our theme
verse is Psalm 139:23-24, which says, “Search me, God, and
know my heart; test me and know my concerns. See if there is
any offensive way in me. Lead me in the everlasting way.” We
ask that you take this adventure with us by praying for our VBS
staff and the children who will be attending.
Registration slips are available at the Welcome Center. You can
call the church office to pre-register your children or register
online at www.balboabaptist.church/#/home/event-sign-up.
We also need your support with cookies (put in freezer and
label VBS), large bags of potato chips and lemonade mix that
our snack team will need that week. Again, we appreciate all
the support and prayers you have sent our way.

A BIG THANKS to all who helped in any way to make Walker Aprons for Good
Samaritan Society here in HSV. We got a good start on April 22 and the quilting
friends of Charlene Frank finished the rest. We donated 200 aprons and each
one had a sweet handwritten note of encouragement in the pocket. We praise
God for allowing us to serve our neighbors in HSV.
The April 22nd group from all over the Village gather to make walker aprons for residents and
patients of Good Sam’s.
Writing notes of encouragement
for each apron.
Here are Grace Wiesen and Diane McGhee giving
out journals to all ladies on Mother’s Day, May 8.
We hope your journal is FILLED with Thanksgiving
to God for His many blessings!

DENNIS AND GLENDA FORD
Glenda was raised in Union County, AR (El Dorado and Smackover). She
acquired a BSE degree (library science) from Ouachita Baptist University in
1976. After graduation, a move to Memphis as librarian for the Mid-America
Seminary resulted in meeting her future husband, Dennis, at 2nd Baptist
Church. They married in September 1978. Dennis and Glenda lived in Wich-
ita, KS, Morgan City, LA and Mandeville, LA. The Fords have two sons,
Tommy and Jonathan. Tommy lives in Covington, LA with his wife Beth and Jonathan lives in Ruston, LA
with his wife Allison. Once they settled in Mandeville, LA, Glenda started her career as a school librarian
for the St. Tammany Parish School District serving in several different schools. For the past 20 years she
was librarian at Fontainebleau HS. On Glenda’s “bucket list” was the desire to obtain her Master’s in Li-
brary Science (MLIS); she accomplished that in 2010 from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hatties-
burg, MS. Glenda is currently a part-time librarian at the HSV Coronado Center Library.
Dennis grew up in Memphis; graduated HS from White Station, and attended college at UT/Knoxville where
he earned his BSA (accounting). During his accounting career Dennis has worked for professional sports
teams, corporate retail stores and an oil field service company. After being in the corporate world for so
many years, Dennis established his own accounting firm in Mandeville, LA. Music is a big part of both of
their lives. They are both in the choir and enjoy serving and worshiping through music. Dennis sings with
the Village Men’s Chorus and the Fun City Chorus in Hot Springs. The Fords came to visit their friends
Dick and Elaine Rypkema shortly after the Rypkema's relocated to HSV. While here they decided to look
over HSV. Eventually they bought a lot and the rest is history! They are in the Impact SS class taught by
Dr Polly Brown. You will enjoy getting to know Dennis and Glenda.
MAKAYLA LaRUE
Makayla was a Christmas gift to Tami and Matt LaRue. She was born on
Christmas Eve of 2009 and was greeted cheerfully by brothers Eddie and Joey
Dixon. Her grandparents, Joe and Evelyn Yoke, were able to enjoy her for
several years prior to their heavenly journey.
Makayla is an honor student at Jessieville Elementary. Her mom says she
likes to color and sing, and “swims like a fish.” Her parents bought her a book
containing the true story of Easter. She was told the Easter bunny is not the true meaning of Easter. After
reading the book, she began asking questions about why Jesus died on the cross. After her mom began to
talk with her about Jesus, she began to cry and said she wanted Jesus to live in her heart. Tami prayed
with her and she came down the aisle to talk with Pastor Denny on the first Sunday of April. Pastor Denny
counseled with them in their home, and Miss Makayla was baptized April 24th.
Please keep Makayla and her family in your prayers. Getting to know them will be a blessing.
