Dear Parents/Carers
I hope you had a lovely Easter break with your children. We are pleased to be able to start many clubs and
activities this term, giving your children more opportunities to socialise, exercise and have fun!
The children’s Easter artwork is still displayed in St John’s church, Little Leighs – here are some photo-
graphs:
This week’s assembly focused on the life of the Duke of Edinburgh and the
Royal Family. It was great to hear your children’s views and understanding
of the Royal Family and to look at the line of succession from Edward VIII,
following his abdication in December 1936. Prince Philip’s determination
to make the most of every day, rise to challenges and offer a life of service
to others provides a good role model…. I am not so sure about retirement
at 96!
Reminders
Play Equipment
Please keep all children, including younger siblings, off the play apparatus at collection and drop off times.
Currently the KS2 play equipment is out of use as most of it is unsafe. Additionally, we are not insured for
younger children to use this equipment. Many thanks.
Healthy Snacks
Just a reminder that KS2 children are allowed to bring in a fruit-based healthy snack Monday – Thursday
and a treat snack on a Friday. EYFS and KS1 have fruit/veg provided during the week but are also welcome
to bring in a treat snack on Fridays.
ParentMail Ordering
Please book your child’s school dinner at least two days before the day it is required; do take a look at the
summer term menu previously sent on ParentMail. Please remember to book before and after school club
provision four days in advance. Many thanks.
Keyboard and Drum Lessons
These lessons are starting back in school this term. Please contact Tracey in the office if your child would
like to take up keyboard or drum lessons as there are currently a few spaces available.

Mid-year reports
Class teachers have started to meet individually with children to identify targets for this term and this will
continue next week. We hope that parents will receive their child’s mid-year targets by next Friday.
I hope you have a lovely weekend – perhaps getting a hair cut or enjoying a shopping spree!
With kind regards
Janis Waters
When to take a lateral flow test and when to take a PCR test?
Lateral flow tests are important in identifying asymptomatic cases of COVID19 infection, they are not designed or suitable for those who have coronavirus symptoms. It is very important that children,
young people or adults who do have any symptoms of COVID19 undertake a PCR test and NOT a lateral flow test.
PCR tests can be booked online to take place via a testing site, or a test delivered to your home at https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test.
The rules of self-isolation if you are symptomatic still apply. They are an essential contribution to infec-tion control measures and risk assessments that schools are required to implement to reduce the risk of transmission of coronavirus. The availability of rapid lateral flow testing had not changed this require-ment. Anyone not isolating and seeking a PCR test if they have symptoms, even if they have a negative
lateral flow test, is knowingly putting other people at risk.
It is essential at this critical stage of the national roadmap that we all comply with these requirements.
The symptoms of Covid-19 are all or any of the following:
a high temperature
a new, continuous cough
a loss of, or change to, your sense of smell or taste
We appreciate that your concern is to return your children to school as soon as possible and that lateral flow tests are the quickest type of test, but they are not the right test to be used if your child has symp-toms. We must ensure the right processes are followed, for the safety of our whole school community.
Thank you for your support in this.

We have started our Amazing Animals topic with drama linked to our War Horse story and drawing a horse sketch using guidelines. We were not so confident at drawing at first but after a good go we came out with fantastic draw-ings which we are really proud of.
