Lots of very solid and topical learning was achieved with high feedback sco- res for the course content and speakers. Participants then headed for the course farewell reception at a nearby rooftop venue overlooking Singapore harbour and the Straits of Malacca. All in all, a great start to the SeaProf/HSBA exe- cutive training collaboration. There will undoubtedly be more to follow in sup- port of Singapore’s goal to become the home of the world’s leading maritime cluster. The new SeaProf/HSBA Masterclass, took place in Singapore from 11 – 13 May 2015 and was both well attended and well received. A total of 17 partici- pants from high profile shipping compa- nies and banks were engaged in inter - active learning and discussions led by Prof Orestis Schinas, HSBA’s Head of Shipping and Finance. Topics included a review of shipping market fundamentals and trade econo- mics, the various methods of financing ships, loan calculations, the acquisition of tonnage, ship leasing (delivered by Guest Speaker, Mr Philip Clausius of Transport Capital Pte Ltd) and risk ma- nagement.The course content was de- livered at intermediate/advanced level and was based on a sub module of the HSBA Shipping MBA programme. Par- ticipants were awarded with an HSBA Shipping and Economics Masterclass in Singapore - a Singapore Success Story First Open Day at the Ham- burg Chamber of Commerce For the first time in its 350 ye- ars of tradition, the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce opened its doors to the public in June - with great success! More than 6.000 visitors came to take a look at the historic building and join in the many activities such as a climbing wall or a treasu- re hunt. As a daughter of the Hamburg Chamber of Com- merce, of course HSBA was also there with a special Bu- siness Speed Date. For more impressions of this special day, please visit here. titions, HSBA managed to de-

EnrolmentThe MBA Shipping programme

is open to applicants with an

academic background. Appli-

cants with relevant professional

experience (e.g. Schifffahrts-

kaufmann) lacking a universi-

ty degree are admitted under

certain conditions. Together

with the VDR (The German Shi-

powners’ Association), HSBA

furthermore awards a full scho-

larship for a place on HSBA’s

MBA Shipping programme with

a value of 18,000 Euro. Appli-

cants must work at a company

that is a member of the VDR

(German Shipowners‘ Associ-

ation).

Regarding our next course

starting in October 2015, cur-

rently already 10 contracts

have been signed and more

than 15 applications are still

being processed. So most

probably we will soon be

look ing at a new record year!

On 16 April 2015 the Shipping Profes-

sional Network in Hamburg e.V. (SPNH)

hosted their third event in joint coope-

ration with the HSH Nordbank AG. The

premises of the HSH offered the 80

guests who attended a beautiful view on

the rooftops of Hamburg’s city center.

Mr. Christoph Matthews who has been

in charge of the risk advisory for mariti-

me clients at HSH since 2005 and Mr.

Sebastian Heddergott, head of bran-

ches for capital markets since 2012,

presented their views on the topic “Fi-

nancial Risk Management – Case Study

of implementing a Corporate Risk Ma-

and Tsakos Group in Piraeus, and dis-

cussed topics such as Islamic Finance,

non-IACS shipping and new concepts in

classification, as well as advanced finan-

cial concepts and legal procedures. Des-

pite the heavy programme, as more than

30 company visits were planned, there

was always time for a beer!

The students of MBA-Shipping pro-

gramme visited London in April and Du-

bai in May, as well as Piraeus in June.

During these three weeks, the students

visited facilities, such as DP World in

Jebel Ali and Al Khorfakkan in the UAE,

leading P&I Clubs, such as the UK P&I,

Skuld and West of England P&I in Lon-

don, listed companies, such as Paragon
