Parents wishing to provide confidential information to assist us in the process of student placement should collect a ‘Class Placement of Pupils’ form from the office. Parents are requested to only provide information that may assist their child’s learning and educational needs. Requests for individual teachers will not be considered. If you have any educational requests related to your child’s class placement in 2016, please complete a form and return to us by Monday 9th November, 2015. Not returning in 2016? Please let us know now. This information will be treated with confidentiality. Families are asked to let us know now if they will not be returning in 2016. It is very helpful for our planning and much appreciated at this early stage. Sadly, as in all school communities, some families relocate at the end of the year. We will miss you and we wish you well.

Eight of our year 5 & 6 students have been working very hard preparing their workshop for presentation at the Target Kids Teaching Conference at Etihad Stadium next Thursday. Harriet, Molly, Saba and Sacha are presenting a component to educate participants about some of the creatures who live in our bay and how we need to look after their habitat, and Milla, Jazzy, Charlotte and Ashleigh will be guiding participants through our giant sized board game which

reinforces many ways in which we can look after our environment. Great job girls! We are all very excited. The Music and Brain Foundation in Highett is collecting older and unused iPods and MP3 players to help people with dementia make connections with their past through music, so if you have any at home you are willing to donate please bring them along to school and we will pass them on.

LEVEL LOW DOWN Foundation

Last Friday we were lucky enough to have a special visit from Josh and his animal friends from Reptile Encounters. He brought snakes, a turtle, lizards, a crocodile, spiny leaf insects and a frog. We learnt lots of animal facts to help us write our information reports later this term. This week we have also been writing our own non-fiction books about animals and living and non-living things. Many of us were very brave and held and touched an animal during the Reptile Encounters visit. This week in circus skills we used devil sticks, poi and juggling scarves. In Numeracy, we have been making pictographs by interviewing our friends.

Year One

Meanwhile in Year One…. This week we continued learning about multiplication. We learnt a new word called an ‘Array’. Arrays are a way to represent ‘groups of’ using rows and columns. We made arrays with counters, drew them in our maths books and even created arrays outside. We went on an array hunt outside and realised arrays are all around us, including- the brick walls, windows, playgrounds and basketball nets. We used sticks and stones to make our own arrays. We also need to say a huge congratulations to Lexi and Freya in 1D! Both Lexi and Freya embraced the Premier’s Reading Challenge with gusto and individually read over 100 books, well above the 30 book requirement. Both girls said that they were motivated because they loved books and reading. They both said their Mum’s supported them to do the Challenge. When asked what their favourite book was, Freya said, “The Enchanted Charms” and Lexi said, “Blubber”. Once again well done Freya and Lexi on a fabulous achievement.

Year Two This term students have begun writing poetry. We are currently writing cinquain poems. The structure of a cinquain poem is: 1 noun 2 verbs 3 adjectives 4 words to describe the topic 1 noun The students in grade 2 have been working very hard at writing their own cinquain poems. Year Three Meanwhile in Year 3… One of our subject focuses for this term is Health. Here are our learning intentions: Understand human development over the human life span Identify and explain healthy eating choices Understand the need for physical activity Understand how physical, mental, social and environmental health affects the human body. The immersion process of this unit is off to an exciting start. Last week St John’s Ambulance taught us some basic first aid and how to act in an emergency. This week we were visited by nutrition experts, who taught us about healthy food options and choices.

Year Four Welcome back to our last school term for 2015. It will be a busy one, so please keep an eye on important Term 4 dates. These dates can be found online in the Year 4 Term 4 Newsletter. The students are encouraged to record important Term 4 events into their personal school diaries. Last week the students in Year 4 worked closely with artist Matthew Butler. They completed their written self reflections after six months of work on the History Puzzle Project. The students were also involved in the final assembly of the 15 Zaishu chairs, a co-operative activity which saw the student’s panels of history-themed artwork being transformed into pieces of furniture. These attractive and functional Zaishus will remain in our school as a keepsake and be used with much pleasure by our students. Teachers introduced the personalised learning plan for Term 4 and the students will be assisted to relate their interests to our subject foci of Health and Economics. On Friday the students enthusiastically involved themselves in a variety of jobs to support our school’s Sustainability program. These jobs included gardening, weeding, sweeping, watering and general tidying of our garden areas. We would like to congratulate Aiden (4DP) who came first in both of his District Athletics races (100 metre and 200 metre events). He will be going through to the Regional competition on Thursday. Good luck Aiden! We have a new student in Year 4, Raphaelle, who started at BPS on Monday. Raphaelle has recently moved from France and this will be her first Australian school. We welcome Raphaelle and her family to Beaumaris Primary School!

Year Five Year 5 completed their Family Life sessions today. Our educator Gair from Family Life Victoria was fantastic and took the time to feedback to the year 5 teachers how respectful, polite and delightful the year 5 students were throughout the program. Thank you year 5 for upholding our school values. A huge congratulations to our lawn bowls team who represented Beaumaris Primary at the State Lawn Bowls competition on Tuesday. They were enthusiastic, competitive and worked together in their teams of four. They also cooperated with students from other schools to run their own competition. On Friday, the Commonwealth Bank will present their Start Smart program to year 5 students. Start Smart teaches students about financial literacy, empowering them to make wise financial decisions for themselves. The workshops are engaging as well as educational, featuring characters such as Captain Super Cents and Coach Cash, who represent all the temptations to spend money needlessly. Hopefully we will see many of you tonight at our amazing Stargazing evening.

Beaumaris Primary School - Coordinator Ash Bladen 14th October 2015 Dear parents & families This week at OSHC we have been getting quite creative, we have taken part in an awesome science experiment using only milk, food colouring and dish washing liquid!! The children all made predictions what was going to happen and loved the end results.

It has been such fantastic weather outside this week that we have spent a lot of time playing games in both the hall and outdoors which the children are loving! To ensure your children can continue to have fun in the outdoors please make sure that your child has a hat when in after school care. Just a reminder for parents that if your child is absent from a session they are booked in to attend, please contact the OSHC service and inform them on the service mobile number which is 0452 247 837. Have a great week! The Camp Australia Team
