THE SEX PISTOLS

God Save The Queen…. The most controversial song in history, made by one of the most controversial bands the UK has ever produced. The 3 minute riotous blast was released to coincide with the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. It was their alternative anthem that rocked the nation (and of course the Establishment!). Although the band were routinely abused in the street by disgusted members of the public, the song was selling at a rate and their iconic album artwork became the most recognised image of the punk genre. Celebrating 40 years, The Sex Pistols are as intriguing, rebellious and exciting today as they were back in 1977. Punk Forever…

THE CLASH

Released in April 1977, The Clash’s self-titled debut album changed the landscape of Punk. Offering something different to the Sex Pistols, The Clash was as political and representative of youth culture but rather giving hope and a voice to a generation. Their love of reggae can be heard through their cover of Junior Murvin’s ‘Police and Thieves’ and tracks like ‘White Riot’, ‘I’m So Bored with the USA’ & ‘Career Opportunities’ engaged and represented youth and their sub-cultures. This album has ranked as one of the Greatest Rock n Roll albums of all time.

THE DAMNED: NEW TOUR & NEW ALBUM The Damned were the first UK Punk band to be signed to the infamous and iconic ‘Stiff Records’ label back in 1977. They’ve had a colourful career but have endured line-up changes, break ups and personal differences to remain the forefront of Goth and New Wave. The Damned have recently announced their ‘Evil Spirits’ 2018 UK tour which will rock the nation from next January. Look out, they’re back!

MOTÖRHEAD: UNDER CÖVER

Not only are we celebrating 40 years since Motörhead released its self-titled debut album back in 1977, news just in that the band have just released a compilation of covers album titled: Under Cöver. Which will include an unreleased version of David Bowie’s “Heroes”. One thing Lemmy Kilmister, Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee liked to do over their years together in Motörhead, was grab a favourite song by another artist and give it a good old fashioned ‘Motörheading’. To run them through the Motörizer if you will. To rock… Motörize yourself and celebrate Motörhead back in 77 and now in 2017.

WHAT’S ON THE ABSOLUTE ROCKS BOOMBOX?

FOO FIGHTERS ‘CONCRETE AND GOLD’

We at ABSOLUTE ROCKS Headquarters have been listening to The Foo Fighters 9th new studio album that was released earlier this month. Dave Grohl certainly has the power, not only to rock, but to nab the one and only Sir Paul McCartney to play drums on Sunday Rain! Our fave track by far is ‘The Sky is A Neighbourhood’ which is everything you would want from a Foo Fighters track and more. Starts off a bit Led Zep, then builds up to Stadium quality. Currently on their sell out tour, they will be heading to Australia and New Zealand in Jan & Feb 2018 ending in Brazil and Argentina… 4/5
