From the News Team Mates in Bowls started off with a bit of a fizzer. Initially, we had a lot of interest but when it came to the actual day, only four teams turned up. This picked up after a couple of weeks and with only two weeks to go, we now have a couple more teams. There is a bit of interest shown from members of the RSA and hopefully this will boost the playing membership of the Club. Those who attended MIB seemed to have a great time. Games for the Club Championship are nearly all played - thank you to players for making an effort to get these over and done with. Some of you may have noticed the new electronic notice board on the Bar. Thank you to Jim Richardson for making this possible. If you have any newsworthy items you want to see “flash” across the screen, please see Jim. We have a Centennial coming up in 2014 and we are all excited that the New Brighton Bowling Club is one of the oldest in Christchurch. What a joy to celebrate 100 years of Bowling! The Centennial Committee consists of Jude Taylor, Margaret Stacey, Mike Baker and Roy Taylor. If you have anything you would like to see in our Centennial Celebrations, please contact us. Fishing Trip to OamaruThe Fishing Section is about to organise a fishing trip to Oamaru in the very near future. We will need up to 10 people for the charter so get those rods and reels out and get them polished and oiled. Date for the trip to be confirmed. Thanks to those of you who have done raffles to raise funds for the trip.

RSA News Section

Not much to report on our front. The lads have been over to the Woolston Club to practice their snooker in preparation for our trip to Oamaru in August to play in the Diggers Tournament.

It will be great when we can get our snooker tables up and running at the Bowling Club. We may even be able to entice some of the Bowling Club members for a game or two with us. Possibly even a competition between the bowlers and the snooker players. Bowls one week and Snooker the next. Maybe Snooker on wet days/Bowling on fine days. We have had some very enjoyable game days in the past and look forward to having more. Hurry up with the alterations, guys, can’t wait to get back to the big Snooker tables.

We would like to take this time to, once again, thank all the Bowling Club members and visitors who support our raffles on a Thursday night. Without your support, we would not be travelling anywhere. Also, the warm hospitality that continues to be extended towards the RSA members is very much appreciated. Without this, we would not have been able to keep our team together.
