  • Welcome to issue 43 of Inside Lanes magazine that is set to bring you all of the biggest motoring news in one neat digital package. It is a big year for Aston Martin as they celebrate 100 years of producing some very fine cars indeed. This month the British brand has shown two very special cars, all to be revealed over the page.VW have gone a bit mad, Porsche have shown their latest incarnation of the 911 Turbo and Renault have been tinkering with their Twizy.

    Start your engines!

  • Pocket Monster

Renault have a history of making cracking

little hatchbacks. Often they are genuinely

usable yet utterly enjoyable to chuck around

when the going gets twisty. Every now and

then the French company take things a step

further and produce something a bit bonkers.

The Clio V6 is a clear case and example of

this. One of the most legendary of these mad

hatchbacks was the Renault 5 Turbo,

something that has inspired their latest

    concept car.

Foreshadowing design elements of the all

new Renault Twingo, this is the TWINRUN

concept car. Packed full of funky design

features including those futuristic rally lamps,

this little car packs quite a punch. Within its

tubular chassis structure sits a mid-mounted

3.5 litre V6 with 320BHP. The engine itself is

lifted directly from a Megane trophy racer.

0-62MPH comes and goes in just 4.5 seconds

and the TWINRUN will go onto a top speed of

    155MPH.

Obviously we wouldnt expect to see this car

make production, but its design shall influence

    Renaults smallest hatchback.

  • No Bull-S**t

Many brands feel the need to diversify and

    broaden their product portfolio. Niche

markets no longer satisfy the likes of

Porsche and Bentley as the prestige badges

begin to stray into new territory. Whilst

Ferrari are standing firm on not producing a

saloon or 4X4, age old rivals Lamborghini

have just confirmed production of their Urus

    4X4.

To become the second 4X4 the raging bull

has ever produced, the Urus has had its

business case reviewed and given the green

light by parent company Volkswagen. To be

built upon the next generation MLB platform

and use carbon fibre for extensive weight

saving, the new Lamborghini will share its

    underpinnings with the next-generation Audi

Q7 and Porsche Cayenne. The engine that

will sit beneath its sculpted bonnet is as yet

unknown, but will likely by a twin-turbo V8

    with around 600BHP.

  • Part-Attack Helicopter, Part-Supercar. ALL EGO

  • Lamborghini is celebrating its 50th birthday in style.

First the one of three Veneno hyper-car was revealed

to the world, then the Italian firm paraded 350

Lamborghinis through its home nation, and now a new

concept has has been revealed. This year is only part

way through, what else could Lamborghini throw at

    us?

This is the Lamborghini Egoista concept and as the name suggests, this car is all about ego. The Egoistas designer said that it represents the

extremes of hedonism, it is a car without compromise, in a word: selfish. This single seater supercar has been inspired by the Apache helicopter and

just like the gunship it isnt what you would call pretty, but again like the helicopter it is quite something to look at. Powered by a 5.2 litre V10 engine,

this machine could influence the design direction of the Gallardos replacement.

It is not yet know if this car will make up a limited production run.

  • ber GolfMany manufacturers have loyal fan bases that simply adore their products. They have the t-shirts, the tattoos, the

posters but above all the passion for their make and model. For example I know many Porsche owners who literally

will not own anything else for the rest of their lives. Even better than devoted fans is the brand being just as

devoted to them. VW have made the Wrthersee show the unofficial home of the GTI and each year they bring a

    gift for the fans.

The show has previously seen VW reveal the bonkers W12 Golf GTI and for 2013 the Germans have produced

something just as mad. This is the Golf Design Vision GTI and it is an amplified output of what future Golfs could

look like. Under the aggressively styled bodywork sits a 3.0 litre V6 with not one but two turbos. 503BHP powers all

four wheels meaning that this pocket rocket can get from standing to 62MPH in just 3.9 seconds. With a top speed

of 186MPH its carbon ceramic breaks are very much needed. The cabin seats just two with the rear seats being

    replaced with a crossbar.

Dont expect this one to make production

    Sorry.

  • DEFENDER OF THE LAND

If it isnt broken dont fix it. You will likely of heard that pearl of wisdom many times in your life, but how often do we really put it into practice? A new phone comes out but you buy it despite your current phone being more than adequate. Ladies often feel the sudden impulse to replace perfectly good shoes. Land Rover doesnt have that attitude and certainly not towards its Defender. The ultimate in utilitarian mud-plugging has remained unchanged, more or less, for 65 years. Land Rover dont really do Birthday cakes and so a new variation of the 4X4 has been rolled out to mark the occasion.

    Named the Defen

    der LXV, 65 in Ro

    man numerals, the

    car is built upon t

    he popular Defen

    der 90. Powered b

    2.2 litre diesel eng

    ine and equipped

    with all of its usua

    l

    off-roading creden

    tials, the LXV mak

    es for a compelling

    purchase. Its 28,

    765 price tag also

    gets you contrast

    eats, new grills and

    altered headlights

    ickers and the opp

    ortunity to join an

    exclusive club of ju

    st 65.

  • Something SpecialFor one of the most famous and evocative brands on the planet today, in the motoring world and beyond, 2013 is a big year. On the eve of World War

One, two typically British car fanatics by the name of Robert Bamford and Lionel Martin conceived and set in motion the story of a legend; the story of

    Aston Martin.

Now in 2013, exactly 100 years since those two pioneers took their first tentative steps in to the world of motoring, the modern-day evolution of Aston is

celebrating that milestone in style with the unveiling of a very special anniversary concept; the CC100 Speedster Concept

Born out of the desire to look both back to the past and ahead to the future, the CC100 speedster instantly transports the spellbound onlooker back to the

heyday of Aston Martin GT racers. In arguably the finest 24 hours of those 100 years, the fabled Aston Martin DBR 1 claimed victory at the 1959 Le

Mans endurance classic. It seems only right that the CC100 should take inspiration from that famous machine, with the low, sleek carbon fibre body

perfectly capturing the flowing curves of the 1959 original and the twin dorsal fins rising up behind the cockpit are a stylish touch. But the CC100 is not

just about dwelling on past glories, as Aston say the concept hints at a potential future design direction for the brand. In truth there isnt an angle that

    doesnt flatter this majestic beast.

  • The concept features the latest generation AM11 6.0 litre V12 engine, previously used to power Astons DBR 9 Le Mans challengers. Mated to a six-

speed paddle shift gearbox, it shatters 0-62 mph in little over four seconds, while the top speed is limited to 180 mph.

Designed and pieced together in fewer than six months at Aston Martins Gaydon HQ, the two-seater CC100 made its world debut at the Nrburgring in

prestigious company, completing a lap alongside the original race-winning 1959 DBR1 piloted by British racing legend Sir Stirling Moss.

As birthday presents go, the CC100 Speedster comes perfectly gift-wrapped in nostalgia and class. If nothing else, it proves that in the search for ever

more beautiful designs, sometimes the best place to look is in the pages of history.

  • Pure ClassThe Mercedes S-Class promotes the three pointed star in its most luxurious form. Every toy under the sun, plentiful power and pure German efficiency

throughout. This next generation S-Class is very important for the company as it will also replace the now extinguished Maybach brand. So enough

speculation, it is time to lay some cards on the table. What have you got Mercedes?

The all Mercedes-Benz S-Class has alway been a force to be reckoned with in terms of technology, this 2014 model is no different. Equipped with

massaging seats, surround sound, night vision, adaptive cruise control and even something called an atomiser that gets rid of unwanted smells.

Stylistically it is more of an evolution than revolution, but details lifted from the new E-Class prove to suit its bigger brother. Engines include a 254BHP V6

and 2.1 litre 228BHP four cylinder hybrid, both diesel. On the petrol front there is a 4.7 litre V8 with 450BHP.

S63 and S65 AMG models are to be revealed later this year.

  • SHOCKING...Are car manufacturers becoming a bit sober? A bit boring

in comparison to their younger selves? Gone are the days

of mega hatchbacks spawned from Group-B rally cars and

in their place sits machines that only ever seem to put on

weight. Renualt have gone all out to show the world that

they havent lost their sense of fun with possibley the

coolest concept car of the year.

This is the Renault Twizy F1 Concept, in essence a Twizy

equipped with the very same KERS that a Formula One

car takes racing. An extra 79BHP is sent to the Twizys

rear wheels when a button is pushed on the race inspired

steering wheel. Donning a front wing, sidepods and rear

wing, this single seater electric car means business.

0-62MPH can now be completed in 6.0, a figure that

matches Renaults fastest road car on sale today. The

chassis was setup by RenaultSport whilst the cars inner

workings were left to their F1 division.

  • Taking adVANTAGE

  • Aston Martin are spoiling us lately. Celebrating 100 years, the British brand have been churning out some

special machines over the past few months. Special edition cars, one off concept racers and now something

that is a real stroke of genius. The Aston Martin V12 Vantage is an astonishing car! It is powerful, beautiful

and a true embodiment of what a British sports car of the modern day should be. Now it gets even better.

First shown in a teaser video, we played Sherlock Holmes and deduced that this was coming The Aston

Martin V12 Vantage S, a more performance focused variation of the coupe. Now producing 565BHP and

capable of a top speed pegged at 205MPH, this muscular machine is the fastest full production car Aston

has ever made. 0-60MPH is dispatched in under 4 seconds. The car has three distinct modes: normal, sport

and track that alters the cars demeanour accordingly. New design features such as a grill inspired by the

CC100 Concept finds a home on the V12 Vantage S and is set to become a permanent design feature on

    future models.

Deliveries will begin at the end of 2013.

  • TURBO

  • The trouble with being at the top is that everyone beneath you always wants to climb above. The Porsche 911 is a symbol of exactly how a

sports car should behave, however, competition in this market is ferocious and so the cars rivals have indeed been on Porsches case.

Celebrating 40 years of its Turbo model, and in a bid to crush its opposition, Porsche have reveled the 991 Turbo.

This is the first time we have had official word on the 991 911 Turbo and it would appear it was worth the wait. Powered by a 3.8 litre flat-six

boxer engine, this twin-turbo leviathan produces 513BHP and 552BHP in Turbo and Turbo S guises respectively. 0-62MPH in the Turbo S

comes and goes in just 3.1 seconds and its top speed is 198MPH. Both cars also receive four wheel steering to increase agility as first seen on

the 991 GT3. This 911 Turbo is also the first car to wear a Turbo badge and not come with the option of a manual gearbox. Active aerodynamics

also heavily feature in this incarnation with a three stage front splitter and rear wing.
