The King’s Chronicle
Issue 6 – November/December 2019
2019 is officially coming to an end and what a year it has been!
With our feet firmly planted in our theme - Rooted in Christ - we have seen wonderful
growth in so many areas and as a school we can truly see the impact of prophesying
this message throughout the year. Not only did we see this in our individual lives but
we also saw it translate corporately as a school in the many milestones we achieved.
From our brand new astro turf to the development of our pool and soccer area for our
little brothers and sisters, we cannot wait to make use of our new facilities.
Sadly, we greet some of our teachers who are off to grow in new areas of their lives.
Mrs Dugmore and Mrs Krynauw will soon be enjoying their well deserved retirement
(or “refirement” as we think it should rather be called). Mrs Potgieter will be fulfilling
an exciting position as a Deputy Principal and Miss Momberg is off to travel the
world. We wish them all a very blessed future and thank them for their investment in
our school.
We also want to take this opportunity to thank our brothers and sisters in Matric for
their stewardship, leadership and companionship. We wish them well in their new
adventures.
To all learners, parents and staff we pray that you have a blessed Christmas and a
happy New Year.
Blessings,
Naleli and Damian
Head Girl and Head Boy 2020
As we look back over 2019, it has been a challenging year for many of us. As a nation we are
grateful for our Springboks who relieved some of the pressure that our nation has been feeling.
As Christians we are not immune to similar feelings of discouragement and hopelessness, but
to be a born-again Christian is to be alive with hope.
“Hope” in Scripture means “a strong and confident expectation.” Hope is not a wishy-washy
“maybe” or a kind of unsure optimism. Hope is the sure certainty that what God has promised in
the Word is true, has occurred, and/or will occur in accordance with God’s sure Word.
As a church we want to be messengers of hope; believers who carry the culture of the kingdom
into the ordinary moments of life. We want to live with a hope that is contagious and infectious.
Not a faith that ignores reality and ignores the problems we still face but a faith that recognizes
the presence of Jesus in the midst of trouble...in the midst of what this nation still faces.
Hope changes how we view our circumstances. Hope changes what we value in life. Hope
changes what we do with our lives—our talents, time, treasures. Hope gives us strength,
courage, boldness. As a church we want to be empowered by the Holy Spirit and we seek to
bring life and hope to our places of influence.
Alan Scott believes that the next great move of God is not a movement in the church but a
movement of the church. Join me in praying this prayer: “God, what is your plan for this city
and how do I fit into it?”
By His grace,
Pastor Paul Dennison

On Thursday 14 November our grade 9 – 12 Visual Arts
students went on an outing to the South African
Foundation for Contemporary Art’s SEED 1 exhibition.
This exhibition is a celebration of the wealth, depth and
diversity of Southern African Contemporary Art. This
exhibition is made up of 30 of the finest established artists,
who each in turn were charged with selecting one
emerging artist to participate in the exhibition. The result is
60 spectacular artworks by 60 spectacular artists.
The SAFFCA director Pierre Lombart wanted to place
particular importance on bringing schools from the area to
view the work, saying “If art in our country is to grow it
must start at the earliest stages of schooling.”
In the spirit of making a difference, The King’s School
decided to sponsor Robin Hills Primary School to join us
on the outing and lunch.
After the learners had their minds and hearts filled by
beautiful artworks and stories on our private guided tour,
we stopped at Mc Donald’s to fill our tummies. For some at
Robin Hills this afternoon lunch was their first meal of the
day. Their immense gratitude at every stage of the outing
was a touching inspiration for our own learners and
teachers.
This blessed us with a new awareness of all we have and
take for granted.

History of the Villa Arcadia:
In 1906 it was bought by Randlord and MP Sir Lionel Phillips, the
chairman of Rand Mines. His influential wife Florence, founder of the
Johannesburg Art Gallery, was described as No Ordinary Woman. She
masterminded the creation of the present Villa Arcadia with architect Sir
Herbert Baker.
