Minutes Juggers Meeting of 07 25 2019
The meeting was called to order by President Gary Ryan at 7:03 PM. A moment of silence
was held to remember those Juggers who have passed and those unable to attend.
Attendance: There were 42 members and guests in attendance.
Guests: Bruno Gianoli and Nathan Ornelas.
Secretary’s Report: Secretary’s report was accepted as it appeared in the Newsletter. Kari
Hensel was again commended for a great Newsletter.
Treasurer’s Report: Sandy reported a current balance of $7,418.46.
Dues of $40 are NOW LATE. Please pay Sandy at the meeting or mail to her at:
1175 Wilhelmina Way
San Jose, CA 95120-5434
Correspondence: Sandy received correspondence from Helen Haas reminding everyone
that Roy’s Celebration of Life is August 10 in Cotati at the Veteran’s Center.
Committee Reports
History: Nothing to Report.
Car Show: The Corvette Spectacular will be held Sept. 22 in Los Altos. For more info to
https://www.losaltoschamber.org/events/details/2019-corvette-spectacular-2631 .For those
who have Corvettes and want to participate go to http://sccorvettes.org/corvette-spectacular/.
Picnic: Steve reminded everyone that the annual picnic will be held at Flood Park on the
second Saturday in October, October 12, 2019. He and Sandy reminded everyone to be
thinking of things to bring for the big raffle.
This year’s picnic will have an area for the car show, and you are encouraged to bring your hot
rods and customs.
At the August meeting, we will be taking your picnic applications and volunteer forms will be
circulated. The menu will have tri-tip and chicken. Members bring side dishes and the
deserts.
Safety: JohnL – There were no postings of NHRA rule amendments since the last ones on
June 11.
Web Site: Still looking for volunteers to take over and make over the JuggersRacingTeam.com web site. JohnL
updated Newsletter and info on High School scholarship winner.
High School Racers: Wednesday Night Races Volunteer Chairman Larry Grimes reported on the volunteers who
have attended every race to help the High School racers, and applause was given in appreciation.
If you can help at even in one race sometime between now and October, Larry needs you to contact him or John
Lewis. If you don’t know how to contact Larry, just ask any other Jugger or one of the officers who can provide his
contact information. Larry will have another volunteer sheet at next month’s meeting.
In other matters John Lewis reported that Kyle reaffirmed that they will lower the spectator fee for people with high
school ID’s to $5.00. We are still not sure when this will officially take effect.
Scholarship - We had 4 applicants for the scholarship and the winner is Bryan Ochoa, from Casa Grande High
School. He will be attending Universal Technical Institute in the fall. Many of you may have met Joey at the Sonoma
Awards Dinner in February. He was the winner of the high school class last season.
We have received great support for this program at the track. On Friday, July 26, at about 7:30 PM, we will be
presenting the award to Bryan in front of the crowd in the grandstands at the NHRA Sonoma Nationals. Immediately
after the Top the Cops races, and before the Cackle Fest, the NHRA official announcer will MC the presentation to
Bryan, who will be accompanied by his parents. The script was written by members of the PR department of Sonoma
Raceway based on info JohnL supplied. All Juggers are invited down to the presentation to stand behind Bryan in
support. John showed the poster board presentation certificate to be used and the actual certificate to be given to
Bryan along with the $500 check.
Tom Clothier has been appointed Vice-Chairman of the HS committee. He will receive copies of all materials, budget
and promotional items as a backup and will give the report next month, as JohnL will not be at the meeting.
Next phase is promotion. The goal is to increase the number of high school racers who participate on Wednesday
nights at Sonoma Raceway.
We will now work on a database of high school drag racers. To that end, we have permission from Kyle to use the tech
cards from Wednesday nights and ET Brackets to build a database of high school racers. In the process, JohnL is
helping Kyle establish a database of racers in all classes.
We will be working with Kyle and Diana Brennan in PR and Marketing at the Raceway, to print flyers and for
promotional programs put out by Sonoma Raceway – in emails and online, and possibly some news PR. It is a great
story getting kids to race on the track and not on the street, with the added interest of the Top the Cops program.
We are open to all ideas from all members for distribution of materials and promotional activities. To keep from having
3 hour regular Juggers meetings, we will be receiving these ideas before and after the meetings have adjourned. Just
see a committee member.
Club Wear: Eddie just replenished stock of Juggers wear. He encouraged all of us to buy stuff. Sandy showed
everyone the new yellow and black Juggers polo shirt and discussed how to size them before calling Eddie. Support
the Juggers and buy Juggers gear. They are ordered just for you and can have your name embroidered for a small
extra charge.
Old Business – JohnL brought the 2.5 x 4 foot vinyl Juggers banners with metal corner grommets. They cost
$20 each. These smaller banners can be used when having pictures taken in the winner’s circle and other purposes.
New Business – No new business.
New Members – John Gianoli Jr. and John Pascu were voted in as our newest Juggers.
Meeting Adjourned at 8:15 PM
At the conclusion of the formal business and round table discussions, we held the 50/50 Raffle which supports our
High School Program. This month’s winner of $133.00 was Jim Wicklund. The other $133.00 was earmarked for our
high schoolers.
Juggers please give a huge thank you to Jim. After the drawing, he donated his $133 winnings back to the
Juggers High School Program.
Respectfully submitted,
John Lewis - Secretary

Race Report
By Dianna Munro
Well, dang, it has been a long time since I wrote my last race report, sorry about that! I went to a race or two, hung out
and enjoyed the festivities but did not get to make a report. Excuses aside, here is the latest racing news that I know
about.
Let’s give a big round of applause and shout out to Steve Galileo. That guy is on fire! I’m talkin’ RED hot like his
Corvette! First, he got a big Wally for first place at the Sonoma Nationals in the Top Sportsman Category. Then just a
few days later he turned around and won the Division 7 Race in Top Sportsman! That team is sizzlin’! Don’t forget to
check your NHRA magazine, I think he might have gotten a photo in the back for that Division 7 win. Love to see
Juggers in the winners circle.
Speaking of winners circle, I heard that there have been a few Juggers in the winners circle. Besides Steve I heard
that Dan Ficher, Harold Binsfeld, and Terry Lindblad, all came out on top. As of August 15th Harold Binsfeld and Dan
Ficher are fighting for the lead in West Coast Pro Gas D Gas. Dan has the lead by 9 points.
I still have not made it all the way up to Samoa, there is always something going on. I will just tell you, this year it was
a 5150 party. Yes, I know what 5150 means and let me just say the party was exactly that, CRAZY. I rented a hotel up
in Gold country and had friends and family come up and enjoy a weekend of eating, drinking and being crazy! I was
smart enough to have the food catered so that I did not have to cook (burn) anything while I enjoyed the festivities. So
while we were staying up until 3am around the bonfire Jessica went with Terry’s KLM team and Jeff’s Technical Steel
team up to Samoa for a NorCal Nostalgia race. Terry finished runner up and Jeff had a bit of a time chasing bugs and
gremlins. (I heard, that was putting it mildly!)
Then there was the NorCal Nostalgia race at Jeff and Terry’s home track in Redding. We could not make it there
because The Champ, got his engine together and needed to shake it down so we were in Sacramento running 1/8
mile in a Boddie’s Street ShootOut.
We got a few ¼ mile test and tunes and that’s what we needed to make sure everything was good to go. Gary and
Greg pulled the car off the trailer and ran a 6.58. Made a small adjustment, made sure the car responded like it was
supposed to and off we went, ran a little slower but that is what we hoped. Then it was on to play with the street
racers. They had nitrox, big blowers, turbos, there was a little bit of everything. They looked at us like we were in the
wrong crowd. Let me tell you we showed them. The way they run their shoe they don’t showing times or speeds it is
just quickest to the line wins. They do a ot of side betting and I saw plenty of Benji’s flying around. I even watched a
few guys exchange cash after we turned on the win light. Talking about win lights, we saw that EVERY run that day.
What a great rush that was, roll it out and be right on the money!
Going in to the race at Redding, Terry was leading the NorCal Nostalgia NEII points. He has been dominating the
lanes in both the NorCal NE II and NHRA NE II. Turns out ‘Big, Bad’ Terry Lindblad is collecting some hardware this
year. He laid the smack down in Redding. He went all the way to the finals where he went up against Jeff. Terry came
out on top. Look at those two in winners circle. That is Jeff’s Woody Wagon tow car in the middle. I think I see Jessica
popping put of the top. Man was she busy that weekend. She was crewing and she had been recruited to BUG for one
of the Funny Cars.
This is all I got for now. As I am finishing up this newsletter, I am at Sonoma for the West Coast Pro Gas 2 day show.
There are Juggers every where. It was hard to pull myself away to make sure that I could send in my report. The
weather was beautiful and it was nice to go rounds. We got all the way to the semi finals and then the wind was too
strong and they postponed the finals until tomorrow. Here are a few pics from today. Saw Weasel, he was shaking
down his new parts and had an issue. I was just glad to see him! I saw Steve, our most recent Wally winner, helping
him out. They will get it figured out. We saw Eddie, Boyd, Mike, and so many more. I will take more pictures, get a
good list of who was there and let everyone know how the Champ did next month.
Until next month, keep the rubberside down!

Wednesday Night Drags – by Kari Hensel
On Wednesday, August 7th, Raina Michel and I had the pleasure of accompanying Larry Grimes in assisting the High School Drag Program at Sonoma Raceway. Raina and were both unsure of what to expect, but we were delighted to be a part of this experience. The kids were appreciative, outgoing, and determined. Seeing Charlotte Skorlich win the event on only her second time racing, was incredible. Under the tutelage of her racing dad, she was focused on improving her response time, and she did! Seeing her jumping up and down with joy at her victories brought us all a thrill. Raina and I even got to take a trip down the quarter mile in a cop car (the front seat of course!). It was evident by the passion of these kids, that this program can grow with our support. We have the opportunity to inject youthful blood into this sport we love. I encourage each of you to sign up to attend with Larry Grimes and support this venture. This season wraps up on August 28th, and seeing lots of Juggers Yellow there would be great. While this is meant to support the kids, I guarantee you will leave the place with a smile on your face and the belief that you made a difference.
Charlotte Skorlich beams with pride
holding her first drag racing trophy! Ale Keller, Joseph McBurney and Joey Frakes
were very appreciative of the thoughtful bags
the Juggers handed out.
Ale Keller poses with the cop
he challenged.
The cops really brought the hardware! The
law enforcement officers included a helicopter
pilot, a fixed wing pilot, and various sheriffs
and deputies.
Future Jugger Dakota
Foakes faces lines up
against Charlotte
Skorlich.
