MEDAL HOPEFULS PLAY IN ADELAIDE
Two of our locals, Helen Main and Jay-den Wright, are off to Adelaide, as part of 11 Echuca athletes representing Vic-toria, to compete in the Special Olym-pics Australia National Games starting April 16! National Games!, that’s awe-some congratulations and good luck! Helen will be competing in Bocce with Echuca’s Corey Davis. Jayden will be tenpin bowling. We’ve read in the past of Jayden’s golfing success locally and with Special Olympics in Melbourne and Macau (bordering Hong Kong and Chi-na), but in these games it’s the tenpins. Other members of the Echuca squad will compete in equestrian, basketball and swimming.

ANNE STAMPED ON CANBERRA
Anne Hutchinson, following her success in Geelong in October 2017, and being encouraged by avid Stamp col-lectors, entered the Biennial Exhibition in Canberra re-cently and came home, again, with an award. Anne said, “After 3 days there I never got to see all the exhibits. "Every frame has 16 pages on it, and 322 frames were exhibited. Exhibiting there was quite an honour and a real learning curve. I learned that you are not so much competing against the others, though there is a lot of friendly rivalry, but you are really aiming to improve your exhibit by listening to the judges’ comments, looking at how others have displayed their stamps and covers and asking lots of questions, and then having another go. The judges mark your exhibit according to a number of areas such as information, rarity, condition, appeal and how it all flows to make an interesting display. Marks be-tween 64 and 69 get the Large Silver. Medals are divided into different categories: Gold, Large Vermeil, Vermeil, Large Silver, Silver, Bronze, Merit and Participation. Ver-meil is a gold plated silver award. I was delighted to re-ceive the Large Silver with a score of 69. I was told I needed to expand my presentation to at least 3 frames and to include more information.” Well done Anne. It is hoped in the near future that her exhibit will be on display at the Business Centre, so pop in and have a look. Photo… Anne admiring her award

INTERNATIONALS STOP TO REVIVE
Lockington Lions Club volunteers offered free coffee, tea and snacks over the Easter break to encourage drivers to stop, rest and refresh, in an effort to ensure they arrive safely at their destination. On Thursday, March 29 a car carrying 4 people from 4 different countries (please refer to the photo), on their way to Moulamein to the ‘Confest’, pulled up for refreshments and went on their way having learned more about our little community, and of course with a ‘Locky News’ in hand.
In the last 12 months VICSES volunteers report they have responded to more than 1300 road rescues across the state, and say, ‘We would much rather serve you a cup of tea, than cut you out of a car.’
Photo 1 (left to right): Eyal of Israel, Didi from Holland, Max of Germany, and South Korean Kim met each other when grape picking at Tumbarumba. They visited Melbourne before stopping in Lockington en route for Moulamein. Photo 2 left to right: Neil Haines, ‘Jack’ Oliver, Phil Collins.

Thank you to the ladies of ‘Amped Hair’, Cathy and Keana, for look-ing after members of all ages in our community in such a caring and happy manner. We are sorry to see you leave us, and wish you both the best. We now put out a plea to anybody who can continue caring for our hair, as there are many who are not able to travel to another town for many reasons (including time), and also want to ‘shop locally’. Let’s hope we will see a Hair-dresser back in action before long.

Have you ever found an item in a garage sale that you purchased because it intrigued you and you wondered about it's past? Over the
last few months I have been drawn to novels that the central part of the story is about an item and its secrets, its stories and the impact it has had on past owners and the person who now has it in their keeping. Precious Things by Kelly Doust is an exceptional example of historical fiction. It explores the story of an embroidered collar that is set on its way in Nor-mandy France in 1891 and is then passed on through the next century to various people and places, from Shanghai and Ma-laya, until it finds its place in a box in an auction lot in Syd-ney. Maggie the auctioneer is drawn to the sparkly beady coronet and takes it upon herself to find out more about its past and in doing so it takes her on a path of discovering more about herself in the process. A terrific novel which was actu-ally published in 2016 but this type of historical novel is be-coming very popular. Other similar ones of interest are The Naturalist's Daughter by Tea Cooper, Last Painting of Sara De Vos by Dominic Smith, and am just starting on newly released The Portrait of Molly Dean by Katherine Kovacic which focus-ses on a painting and its role in a past murder. Nothing like a bit of intrigue and some great research to make for a terrific read. Jenny Mustey Library Services Manager Campaspe Regional Library

Page 12 The Kotta Hall is the venue for the next production of a play by Hugh O’Brien titled “Farmer will swap combine harvester for wife”
This is the second production by the B-BAC players from Boort, Buckrabunyule and Charlton. They rehearse in the 108 year old Buckrabunyule Hall.
Hugh O’Brien has written plays for small country organisations which are simple, short and fairly easy to perform. This play has one set only and seven scenes. The purpose of Hugh’s writing is to help little country communities with some entertainment. From Queensland, Hugh O’Brien has had a career as a speech writer and playwright.
This play has different facets from comedy to very serious con-temporary issues and is not suitable for children under 15years. It is suggested that children could patronise the film night being held at the Heritage Centre in Lockington on the same night.
When 59-year-old bachelor farmer Cyril Evans runs a personal ad in Queensland Country Life offering to swap his reconditioned John Deere 9750 STS combine harvester in return for a wife of breeding age – all hell breaks loose!
A fourth-generation grain and beef producer, Cyril Evans prom-ised his father he would never sell the family property Evans-wood. But life didn’t quite go as planned for the likeable Cyril. Due to a sad misunderstanding 33 years ago, his marriage to the love-ly Delmay Maydel was called off the night before the wedding.
In quick time, a bevy of people appear on his doorstep. They in-clude the beautiful young Skye Weston, who has been driving and fixing headers since she was 12; Cyril’s jilted fiancée from 33 years ago, Delmay June Maydel; Cyril’s neighbour Gus Bell, who has his own secret agenda; a sexy mystery woman Roxanne?Roxfox? Foxton; and a well-mannered young grazier Doug Din-nington.
Cyril’s newspaper ad starts a chain of events with both comical and serious repercussions.
