MARGARET DWYER, A LADY TO THE LAST...97 YEARS YOUNG. R.I.P. Today we pay tribute to Margaret Dwyer ,who passed away this week , one of the founding members and driving forces of the Rose of Tralee Festival .A Lady to the last , she was at the heart of all that was good about Tralee for over 50 years . She never suffered fools gladly and could be more direct than the top CEOs in Worldwide business today ! But had a charm about her that could disarm you in an instant . I remember meeting her for the first time as I joined Tralee Chamber Council in the early 1990s...seeing a diminutive lady in her 70’s coming to these ‘high powered ‘ meetings that had the betterment of Tralee on its radar ! Boy , did we have to watch out when Margaret got going , she took no prisoners and got results ! And all behind her fantastic smile that would light up the Dome! Margaret , Tralee will be all the worse now you are not with us , but is all the better for having you here.. Rest in Peace ..(Chris Shortt )

Rose of Tralee stalwart Margaret Dwyer dies age 97...Radio Kerry

“A woman “synonymous” with the Rose of Tralee, Margaret Dwyer, has died aged 97” Irish Independent

A sad day for Tralee with the passing of the beautiful Margaret Dwyer. A lady to her core. A true community person who was very much the leading lady involved in the projects that make Tralee the great town it is today. Sincere sympathies to her family. RIP Margaret.....Grace O Donnell

A beautiful Lady, Margaret Dwyer, RIP. 97 years young. REA Norths

Very sad to hear of the death of the great Kerry lady Margaret Dwyer 97 whom I had the great privilege of presenting with a lifetime achievement award with Dr Gerald Kean at a women in business breakfast in Tralee in 2008....HI Magazine IT was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Margaret Dwyer, one of the first members of the Rose of Tralee International Festival and who was involved in organising the first Festival in 1959. The late Florence O’Connor, a founding member of the Festival once said: “If you want to make sure a job is done quickly and efficiently get the women to do it.” One of the women he had in mind was Margaret Dwyer. She became the first Lady President of the Festival of Kerry, as it was known back then, 1970 and with her presidency came a new approach to attract more sponsorship which is still necessary for continued growth and development. This helped pave the way to make the Rose of Tralee one of Ireland’s most famous and important family festivals. The contribution of Margaret to the development, growth and long-term success of the Rose of Tralee International Festival from 1959 to 2003 and indeed to the town of Tralee through her role in the local business sector, has been immense. She will be sadly missed and we extend our sympathy to her sons Ryle and Sean.Anthony O Gara CEO Festival of Kerry The word “lady” cannot really be attributed to many in the true sense of the word, but when describing Margaret, it is the first word that comes to mind. She was as tough as old boots but as delicate as a little bird. She was beautiful, inside and out. She had that wonderful Irish/American accent that I just loved. She had finesse that only some of us can dream about. Margaret loved Tralee, she worked hard to see it thrive and prosper. She was a true rose - Tralee was all the better for her contribution and we are all the poorer for her passing. May she rest in peace and I know she will never be forgotten in this town. It was a privilege and honour to have known her. “She was lovely and fair as the rose of the Summer” Gillian Wharton Slattery.

Reposing at The Gleasure Funeral Home, Tralee on Friday from 4.15pm to 6.15pm with removal at 6.15pm to Our Lady & St. Brendan’s Church. Mass of the Resurrection on Saturday at 11am. Interment afterwards in Rath Cemetery. No flowers, please. Donations, if desired, in lieu of flowers to Baile Mhuire Senior Care, care of the Gleasure Funeral Home.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: TREATMENT ABROAD SCHEMEQuestionI know that medical treatments available in Ireland can be accessed in other EU countries instead. What if I need a treatment that isn’t available in Ireland?

AnswerIf you are entitled to public health services that are available in Ireland, it is possible to access these services in the European Economic Area (EEA) and be repaid the cost under the Cross-Border Healthcare Directive.

If you are a public healthcare patient and need treatment that is not available to you in Ireland, you may be able to use the Treatment Abroad Scheme to get the treatment in another country in the EEA or Switzerland. The Scheme may provide help with travel costs for the patient and a travelling companion, where appropriate.

You must be referred for treatment abroad by an Irish-based consultant who is treating you as a public patient. You cannot refer yourself or be referred by a GP.

You, and your referring consultant, must complete an application form and include a copy of your referral letter. Your application must be approved by the Health Service Executive (HSE) before you travel or start treatment abroad. You will get a decision on your application by letter, usually within 15 to 20 working days. If your application is not approved, you will be told the reasons and given information on how to appeal the decision.

If your application is approved, the HSE will issue a form called S2 (also known as E112). This authorises treatment abroad so that you do not have to make any payment to the healthcare provider. The treatment you have abroad must be in public healthcare under a registered medical practitioner in a recognised hospital or other institution that accepts the form S2. If you don’t have the S2 at your appointment, you may be charged and not be refunded. Any treatments or consultations that are not pre-approved will not be covered.

For an application form, contact the Treatment Abroad Scheme Office. You can get the contact details for your area by calling the HSE Infoline on Callsave 1850 24 1850 or online at hse.ie/treatmentabroad.

LEGAL CORNER Get your business noticed in Tralee’s favourite Friday read

The Freedom to WillSinead is married with three children but is committed to animal welfare and wants to know if she can will an inheritance that she got from her father to the local animal welfare charitable group.

While willing money to charity is very laudable and tax effective Sinead will have to be aware that our Succession Act 1965 as amended does restrict the freedom to will. Family members do have rights under this legislation that protects family members. In this case her spouse would have a third legal right share in relation to her estate as there are children in existence (it would be a half legal right share if there were no children) and can take the family home or a portion of it depending on the size of the estate towards that share. Children while they have no legal right share do have a right to take an action against a parent’s estate if not properly provided for. They must take this case within 6 months of the issuing of the grant of probate. Any child or any age marital or non-marital can apply. The test the courts have used is have they acted as a “just and prudent” parent in providing for their children and they look at a number of factors in deciding this e.g. the value of the estate and the means of deceased, the amount received by the surviving spouse, any benefits received by son/daughter during testators lifetime, the age and current financial and other circumstances and prospects of the son/daughter, the benefits given to other siblings and their financial and other circumstances/prospects, the number of siblings their ages and position in life. This right to take a case does not apply to grandchildren.

If Sinead respects these rights and provides for her spouse and children she could leave a reasonable portion of her estate after that for charitable purposes. Interesting enough in Ireland the statistics relating to persons leaving money or property to charities in their estate is quite low still as it is family generally benefit most from wills here. About 1 in 3 adults make a will but by the time people actually pass away about 40% plus have made a will. Of these wills about 10-12% include charitable bequests. Interestingly one of the most unusual charitable bequests ever made was a “shoe shop in Italy”.

Law Quip: Where there is a will there are relations but where there is no will there are even more relations.

TRALEE BUSINESS SHOWS IN DUTCH ‘GREAT OUTDOORS ’ EXPO Tralee-based tourism operator Ireland Walk Hike Bike headed by Linda Woods joined Tourism Ireland and five other outdoor activity providers from the island of Ireland in Utrecht, for this year’s Fiets en Wandelbeurs, an important cycling and hiking expo in the Netherlands.

The two-day show attracts around 20,000 visitors every year – providing an ideal platform for the participating companies from Ireland to showcase and sell their product to thousands of recreational cyclists, hikers and potential Dutch holidaymakers. Karen van der Horst, Tourism Ireland’s Manager for the Netherlands, said: “Events like Fiets en Wandelbeurs provide us with a wonderful platform to spread the word about the great outdoor experiences that Dutch holidaymakers can enjoy right around the island of Ireland. “2015 was a very good year for tourism from the Netherlands to Ireland, with official CSO figures showing an increase of +16% over 2014.

Tourism Ireland is rolling out an extensive programme of promotional activity throughout 2016 – to keep the momentum going and build on that growth. We will continue to promote the distinctiveness of a holiday in Ireland, the good value available and the ease of access from the Netherlands. Promoting the Wild Atlantic Way and the Causeway Coastal Route will continue to be a major focus of Tourism Ireland’s activity in the Netherlands, and elsewhere around the world, in 2016. The organisation will also highlight Dublin and Belfast, Ireland’s Ancient East, as well as Northern Ireland’s Year of Food and Drink.

Hair Dandruff or Scalp Buildup?Dandruff and Scalp BuildupDandruff is a chronic scalp condition, and is one of the most commonest (we are using double superlative here) problems in the world, and one of the most simplest (double superlative again!) issues that can be treated with amazing ease. whereas buildup is conditional, caused by hair product usage and cleansing habits. Dandruff is a fungal infection caused by a yeast, which inflames the scalp. Scalp buildup, on the other hand, occurs when hair is not cleansed adequately or often enough which can lead to thinning hair.

What Causes Scalp Buildup?Scalp buildup is caused by two major factors: overuse of styling products and ineffective cleansing. If you do not shampoo regularly, or your shampoo does not clean thoroughly, in time, a combination of dead skin cells and oil will cause scalp buildup.

What can I do about either ?In the case of scalp buildup, shampoo your hair more often and more thoroughly. You may need to shampoo twice, particularly if you use a lot of styling products. You can also use a clarifying shampoo. However, this should be done only once a week, at the most.Alternately, if you need a more intensive treatment, ask your stylist .As regards Dandruff , Yes there are natural home remedies that you can try such as Lemon juice ,Coconut Oil , Olive Oil, Apple cider vinegar or Aloe Vera gel .But also consider that some gels, hairsprays and other styling products can not only damage hair but also cause the scalp to dry and flake. Try cutting back on your use of the products as well as switch to products that are infused with nutrients that help feed the scalp.Your hair needs to be cleansed, conditioned and styled. In many cases, a one-size fits all will do to shampoo your hair. But your scalp needs treatment designed for your skin type. This is where your hair stylist can help with a program to exfoliate , massage and recommend .

Which have you?

TRALEE BUSINESS SECTOR LOOK FORWARD TO FIRST KERRY DOUBLE-HEADER AT REVAMPED AUSTIN STACK PARKA NEW chapter in the history of Austin Stack Park Tralee will commence this coming Sunday when the green and gold of Kerry will take to the brand new pitch to face Wexford and Donegal in the Allianz Hurling and Football Leagues respectively. The lush green surface is the centre-piece of a magnificent transformation project at Tralee’s premier sports venue that would not have been possible without the support of the business people in Tralee. Two working days was all it took for them to achieve their target contribution figure within the overall one million euro fund to develop Austin Stack Park Tralee. An attractive five year All-Ireland Final ticket-scheme was created to encourage businesses in Tralee and the north Kerry area to help bring Austin Stack Park into the 21st century. The initiative supported by the clubs in Tralee, representatives of Kerry County Board, Kerry County Council and Tralee Chamber Alliance commenced on Thursday 8th September and by close of business on Monday 12th the target had been achieved.Businesses in Tralee, including the Tralee Hotels Alliance, committed to subscribe to the scheme to the tune of €250,000 over a five year period. The President of Tralee Chamber Alliance, John Drummey, said: “We have been impressed by the progress and overall transformation of Austin Stack Park. This was a wonderful example of team work and it demonstrated what can be achieved when businesses work together for the good of our town. A modernised Austin Stack Park will give the town centre a boost on match days which can only be a positive development for retailers, publicans, accommodation providers and the local economy in general.”Kerry County Board has already invested €400,000 while the balance will be negotiated with the corporate sector in north Kerry and Kerry County Council. The first game under the new floodlights at Austin Stack Park will take place on Wednesday 9th March when Kerry welcome Tipperary in the Munster Under 21 Football Championship.A spokesperson for the Austin Stack Park Development Project thanked the business people of Tralee for their generosity and for recognising the important role they need to play in order to preserve and develop one of the town’s key assets.

EVERYONE WELCOME TO KCFE OPEN DAYThere was once a time when students left the county in droves to do their PLC course in Cork and Limerick but, thanks to the vision of Kerry ETB, with the establishment in Tralee of Kerry College of Further Education (formerly Tralee Community College) students can now access a very broad range of post leaving certificate courses in a college setting without having to incur the cost of having to move to another county.

Kerry College of Further Education (KCFE) specialise in the provision of quality assured further education courses, otherwise known as PLC courses, offering certification at Level 5 and Level 6 on the National Framework of Qualifications. ‘The courses at KCFE are designed to prepare students for work by giving them specific skills and training which enable them to find employment in a variety of career areas. The PLC also acts as a stepping-stone to other third level qualifications at ITs and Universities. We have a very extensive list of links with colleges in Ireland and abroad. Our Guidance Counsellor Anne Doyle and Law lecturer Toireasa Ferris have developed even more progression links recently with UL and UCC allowing our PLC graduates to access courses there’ said Mary Murphy, College PRO.

The college enrolled 585 students at the beginning of this academic year. About 60% of the current student body come directly from Leaving Cert while the other 40% are mature people who are upskilling, changing career direction and most importantly pursuing courses which focus on enhancing employability by providing the student with the skills currently in demand by industry.

The college is holding an Open Day on Wednesday 9th March from 11am-7pm at its college campus in Clash, Tralee. School leavers, their parents/guardians aswell as those mature people who are considering a return to education/training in order to gain a recognised qualification are welcome to pop in on the day. Two representatives from SUSI will be available in the college on the day to answer queries regarding grants. The application system for those wishing to secure an interview for a place at the college is now open online at www.kerryfe.ie and any queries regarding the Open Day or any aspect of what the college offers can be directed to the college office on 066 712 1741.

ST. BRENDAN’S OAKPARK U10 INDOOR SOCCER COMMUNITY GAMES The St. Brendan’s Oakpark area can be very proud of its under 10 team which won three of its four games in the North Kerry section on Sunday last.We started well with a 2-1 victory over the hosts, Dubh Áth, and then a nail-bit-ing 5-4 win over Moyvane. While defeat to eventual winners Ballybunion meant we could not win the tournament the boys showed great spirit in defeating a strong Ballymac team 6-5 in the final game of a most enjoyable day.A very big thank you to Pat Daly who trained and coached the team over the last few weeks. Thanks to all the parents who travelled and supported the team on Sunday. Carmel Kelly PRO

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE...CAN THE KERRY STORES DESIGN THE BEST GREEN ANGEL PADDYS DAY WINDOW ?Five Kerry retail outlets including Trant’s Pharmacy, Listowel; Shaws Dept Store, , Tralee; Ballyduff Pharmacy, Ballyduff, ; Lynch’s Pharmacy, , Castleisland; Haven Pharmacy, Brosnan’s, , Kenmare are seeking the public’s vote to help them win the Go Green with Green Angel Skincare Challenge – a nationwide search to find Ireland’s most creative shop window. The Guaranteed Irish-backed competition challenges Green Angel stockists to produce the country’s best St Patrick’s Day-themed window featuring the successful Irish skincare brand. The competition was launched by former Miss Ireland Aoife Walsh and Gerhard Scully, who was the iconic window dresser at Clerys department store for 25 years. “There are two key components to a good window – individuality and creativity,” said Gerhard. “People need to bring their own things into a window display, and make it in their own image almost. “It should be something that they have designed themselves, put together themselves and shown that bit of love to.” All of the entrants’ pictures will be posted on the Green Angel Skincare Facebook page where the public can vote for their favourite store and staff to win valuable prizes plus a €1,000 contribution to a charity of their choice sponsored by Guaranteed Irish. And one lucky voter in each county will win a luxury hamper of Green Angel products. Trant’s Pharmacy, Convent St. Listowel; Shaws Dept Store, Russell St, Tralee; Ballyduff Pharmacy, Ballyduff, Tralee; Lynch’s Pharmacy, Main St, Castleisland; Haven Pharmacy, Brosnan’s, Henry St, Kenmare are all registered for the public vote, which closes on March 14. FENIT COASTAL CYCLE The children of St. Brendan’s NS Fenit are getting very excited about their upcoming fundraiser for the school. The now annual event, Fenit Coastal Cycle, on Saturday 19th March is a fantastic opportunity to dust off the cobwebs from your bike after the winter months and to begin your springtime training as part of your Ring of Kerry preparation or indeed just for fun. With a 25km and 60km route all abilities are catered for. The children themselves are preparing to participate in either the 1km or 10km children’s route depending on their cycling experience and ability. we have been very lucky in previous years to have the backing of some very generous sponsors and we hope they come on board for another successful event again this year. This fundraiser is a perfect example of the whole community coming together to support their local school and provide all our cyclists with our now famous Fenit hospitality pre and post cycle. This year Fenit Coastal Cycle is delighted to support Down Syndrome Kerry. A donation of the monies raised will go directly to the Down Syndrome Kerry charity. WELL-EARNED CERTIFICATES OF ACHIEVEMENT FOR ADVENTURING FOR 3 GLEANN LÍ STUDENTS Three Coláiste Gleann Lí students were presented with their well-earned Certificates of Achievement for Adventuring recently. The certificates were presented by Director of ‘Kerry Outdoor Education Training Centre’ Mr Donal Dowd on Tuesday at the school. The certificates marked the students’ outstanding achievement in outdoor pursuits on a three-day outdoor trail, while living off the land, without modern conveniences. The three senior cycle students, Holly Touhy, Daniel Chung and Saoirse Hussey hill-walked and kayaked 25 kilometres across South Kerry, camping in the wild and living off the land. All Students from Kerry ETB programmes were given the opportunity to participate, the expedition forming part of the Kerry ETB Active Schools Initiative.Participants had spent a day training in Cappanalea Outdoor Education Training Centre (OETC) in February learning about pitching tents, using camping stoves and packing a rucksack etc. in preparation for the expedition. The excursion highlights Coláiste Gleann Lí’s commitment to delivering a quality, holistic education to its students. It is hoped that the success of this venture will lead further development in this area in partnership with excellent resources such as Cappanalea OETC. “It doesn’t matter where you are or what you’re doing, it’s the people that make it good. I learnt a lot about myself on the expedition, It was a huge boost to my confidence and has changed the way I view things. Nothing mattered when I was out there, it was just where I was, what I was doing and who I was with. It was a complete escape from reality. I appreciate the things I have like a home, bed and fridge more now than I used to. I would highly recommend the expedition to everyone as it was the opportunity of a lifetime.” Explained Daniel Chung 6th year student at Coláiste Gleann Lí The adventuring expedition was directed by Donal Dowd and Mary Nash from Cappanalea OETC, Jeremy Wrenn from Kerry ETB. John Creagh, Physical Education teacher from Coláiste Gleann Lí, also joined the expedition for the last leg to Beginnish. THE ELECTION COUNT – THE ULTIMATE SPORTING THEATRE?It is normally on the sporting pages of this publication where you can read my musings but as an extra this week here is my look at the Election 2016 for the Kerry constituency.

Turnout and Quota:After the maths was done the quota was 13,213 with a total of 79,749 people voting out of an electorate of 112,751 which equals 70.7%. 476 people spoiled their vote which is their right!

The Count:So now for the Count and if you haven’t been to one then I urge you to get to the next one – which could be sooner than anyone wants! Now somewhere in the distant past a group got together and said we will have a contest where after everyone has votes we will eliminate them one by one for maximum dramatic affect. Guess that’s where all the TV shows got the idea. But before we got to the business end of the Count 9 candidates needed to be eliminated. It can be easy to dismiss candidates that get low votes. But this should not be done. Anyone that puts their name on a ballot paper should be respected. Asking someone for a vote is not easy and results are relative. A candidate might be happy just to be given a platform to have his say.

Opposing emotions:From early on it was clear that Michael Healy-Rae would have a huge vote and be elected early and that Danny would follow. Sinn Fein thought they were in trouble early but once boxes in their areas opened they were safe. Fine Gael had very mixed emotions as Brendan Griffin did very well and Jimmy Deenihan had a disaster. This left the door open for John Brassil who took full advantage. And as for Labour it was an early concession for Arthur Spring as he felt the full brunt of the anti-Labour tide.

The Result:Elected to represent Kerry are Michael Healy-Rae Ind (20,378), Danny Healy-Rae Ind (13,826), Brendan Griffin FG (14,050), Martin Ferris SF (12,964) and John Brassil FF (12, 792).

The Post Mortem:With Kerry now all one there was always the possibility of change but few would have predicted the outcome. The Healy-Rea’s ending with over 34,000 votes!! Jimmy Deenihan and Arthur Spring both saw their votes dropping by 48% and this with the constituency doubling in size. Jimmy’s gone partly because he lost the support of his own area – turf cutting controversy amongst other reasons and Arthur lost because the old ‘Spring Labour vote’ has dwindled in North Kerry and Labour in the county is in disarray with their troubles beginning when they allowed Phil Hogan to abolish Town Councils where they had some very good people doing some very good work.Fianna Fail and Labour wondering if they ran an ‘East Kerry’ candidate would it have made a difference? Credit to the Healy-Rae’s they took the chance and look what resulted in their strategy and perfect vote management.

The Outcome:Who knows will a Government be formed and if so who will be in it. Everybody says we need stability and a stable Government. Bit did we not have that for the last 20 years and look where we are? Fianna Fail (with the PD’s and Labour) had 15 years and Fine Gael and Labour had 5 years with large majorities. Were we any better in Kerry than when Jackie Healy Rae held the balance of power? I would argue that we are not. At the end of the day no TD, unless they are in cabinet can have any real influence on policy. So as the old saying goes – All Politics is Local. Maybe a bit of instability and a coalition where the Cabinet is kept on its toes by their coalition partners might not be a bad thing? And if it means here in Kerry we get the Adare By Pass and the Macroom By Pass and a few other things on this year’s version of a ‘Famous List’ then why not!!

HEALTHY RECIPES Get your business noticed in Tralee’s favourite Friday read

A Meal Mom Would Be Proud of!!!

INGREDIENTSINGREDIENTS

GARLIC CHICKEN IN PUFF PASTRY

1. Preheat oven to 200 C / Gas mark 6.2. Use a sharp knife to score across the duck breasts 4 times through the

skin and fat but just barely to the meat. Rub the skin with salt, cayenne and black pepper.

3. Preheat an ovenproof frying pan over medium-high heat. Lay the breasts in the pan skin-side down and fry until the skin is brown and crisp, about 5 minutes. Use a spoon to carefully discard any excess fat from the bottom of the pan. Turn the breasts over and cook for 1 minute.

4. Place the pan into the preheated oven and roast until the internal tempera-ture of the thickest part of the breasts reach 70 C for well done, or until the breasts reach desired doneness.

5. Remove the duck breasts from the frying pan and cover with aluminium foil. Set aside to rest. Pour off excess fat from the frying pan. Place the stock, soy sauce, rice wine, ginger, tomato puree, chilli powder and lime juice in the frying pan. Whisk the sauce over high heat, bring to the boil and cook until the sauce thickens, about 2 minutes. Slice the duck breasts thinly, arrange on serving plates, and pour the sauce over the top

About this recipe: Chicken breast stuffed with a delicious garlic butter, wrapped in puff pastry and served on top of a mouth watering creamy garlic sauce

• 2 chicken breast fillets • 2 ready prepared frozen puff pastry sheets • For the garlic butter • 80g (3 oz) butter • 2½ teaspoons fresh minced garlic • 1 teaspoon of freshly chopped parsley For the creamy garlic sauce • 1 tablespoon butter • 1 teaspoon fresh minced garlic (or more if you like) • 2 tablespoons plain flour • 300ml of milk • 1 teaspoon freshly chopped parsley

1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees C / gas mark 6.2. Mix all the garlic butter ingredients together into a smooth consistency.3. Spoon evenly onto each chicken breast and fold end of chicken over to cover.4. Wrap the chicken breast in puff pastry and cook in preheated oven for 40 mins.5. About 10 minutes before chicken is cooked, prepare the garlic sauce.6. Melt the butter and garlic on a low heat in a saucepan. Remove from heat and

stir in the flour until it forms a paste. Return to a medium/high heat and add milk and parsley. Stir continuously until thick.

7. When chicken is cooked and the sauce has thickened, poor the sauce onto a plate and place the chicken puff on top of it.

SEARED DUCK BREASTS WITH HONEY, SOY AND GINGER

About this recipe: These duck breasts are the nicest I’ve ever cooked. And it’s also very quick and extremely easy to make. I enjoy serving these duck breasts with roasted seasonal vegetables

• 2 duck breast fillets • 1 pinch salt • 1 pinch cayenne pepper • 1 pinch freshly ground black pepper • 125ml chicken stock • 2 tablespoons honey

• 2 tablespoons soy sauce • 2 tablespoons rice wine • 1 tablespoon grated fresh root

ginger • 1 teaspoon tomato puree • 1 pinch chilli powder • 1 teaspoon lime juice

WHY NOT CALL INTO OUR SHOWROOMS!

Hello my beautiful friends! I hope you’re all having a fabulous week. This week I will just be going through my typical glam makeup routine and talking a bit about my favourite products to use at the moment. At the moment I am literally as white as a ghost. I need some sun ASAP. If Ireland had the same climate as California I swear it would be the best place in the world.

BASE: After cleansing and moisturising my face, I start with primer. I have been using the Smashbox Photo Finish primer since January and I really like it. I just rub it on my face using my hands. After primer, I go straight in with my foundation. It’s up to you what order you like to do your makeup. I love trying out new foundations and I got my first ever NARS foundation last week, I got the All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation in the shade FIJI. I haven’t used it long enough to give you my full thoughts on it but so far so good! I’ve been really into glowy looking makeup as opposed to my late matte obsession, and this foundation makes me feel super glowy!Next is onto concealer, I use concealer to highlight my under eyes, bridge of my nose, chin and middle of my forehead area. Fortunately I do not have any breakouts to conceal at the moment. I use the Collection Lasting Perfection concealer in the shade 1 Fair. It’s only €5.79 and you can get it in Boots.

CONTOUR TIME. For the above look I contoured my face using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Cream Contour Palette and then the Kat Von D Shade & Light palette to set it with powders. Highlighting my cheekbones is one of my absolute favourite things to do at the moment. I use the Becca Cosmetics X Jaclyn Hill Champagne Pop and it is amaaaaazing!

BROWS: I’m currently in the process of growing out my brows, I get them done by Jurga in Sean Taaffe, she is the best! On my brows I use the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade with an angled brush. I have been using this for over a year, it’s one of my favourite products, you can get it on BeautyBay.com.

EYES: I have a thing for minimal eye makeup lately. So I just used the shade ‘Brazen’ from the Blank Canvas Cosmetics Master Series 1 Palette all over my eyelids, nothing else. For mascara I used my old favourite, L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara.

LIPS:Before I do any matte lip I prep my lips. I use the LUSH lip scrub first to remove dead skin and then the Kiehls lip balm before I start my makeup so that my lips are fully moisturised before applying any product. So on my lips is… The amazing, Kylie Lip Kit shade Mary Jo K. It’s a matte lip liner and liquid lipstick. It literally stays on ALL DAY and doesn’t dry out my lips either. It really is a high quality formula. Kylie restocks the kit every few weeks on the LipKitByKylie website. So keep an eye on her Instagram for updates.

Bexblah Fitness!HELLO MY STRONG FRIENDS! HOPE YOU’RE ALL HAVING A GREAT WEEK. THIS WEEK I WILL BE TALKING ALL ABOUT PROTEIN, AND WHAT YOU SHOULD USE IT FOR.I have talked about macros (Carbs, Fat & Protein) and how much of each you should be hitting is specific to you and your goals. But sometimes hitting your daily protein can be a bit of a task, unless you want to eat a whole lotta chicken and eggs, and that’s where Whey Protein comes in. Whey protein is considered a complete protein and contains all 9 essential amino acids and is low in lactose content. People commonly use it as supplementation, alongside resistance exercise, to help improve muscle protein synthesis and promote the growth of lean tissue mass. Now I’m not saying you need to go out tomorrow and buy the biggest tub you can find, because the most important thing is getting your food and exercise routine right THEN when you have all that down maybe consider getting some to make sure you hit your daily protein intake goal. Whey Protein alone will not have any magic results, it’s all about consistency. If you have your food intake and exercise down and you want to look into getting some Whey Protein, here are a few ones that I can recommend.

MYPROTEIN IMPACT WHEY PROTEIN

1KG €18. It is made-up of 100% premium grade whey protein concentrate and has 20g of protein per serving.

OPTIMUM NUTRITION GOLD STANDARD 100% WHEY1KG €30-€35Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein contains no added carbohydrates. Each serving has only 3 grams of carbohydrates, making it an excellent choice for individuals on low carbohydrate diets.

KINETICA WHEY PROTEIN

1KG €3223g of Protein per serving. There’s so many brands that sell protein and it’s good to do your research online and look up reviews so that you can choose the best one for you.

Before weight training, take about 10-20 grams of whey protein to enhance muscle strength, increase endurance, and decrease muscle breakdown. After your workouts, go with 20-40 grams of whey to enhance muscle recovery and boost muscle protein. And no ladies, whey protein will not make you look ‘manly’ or ‘bulky’!

BLONDE JOKE... SO A BLONDE WALKS INTO A BANK...So, a blonde woman goes into a bank in Downtown Manhattan, and says to the bank manager, “I would like a $5000 loan please.”The bank manager says, “that won’t be a problem miss, but you will have to give us some collateral.” The blonde women smiles, pulls her car keys out of her purse, and hands them to the bank Manager. Then she says, “I can offer you my car, it is 2015 Rolls Royce Phantom.” The bank manager looks incredulously at the woman and says, “but miss, this car is worth half a million dollars?! Are you sure you need a $5000 loan?” The women smiles and nods, and the bank manager promptly draws up the contract; the woman had to pay %4 interest per month. The woman took her $5000 and the bank manager took her car. 31 days later the blonde woman comes back into the bank and says to the manager, “I am here to repay my loan, I would like my car back.” The bank manager pulls up her account on the computer and says, “that will be $5200 please”. The woman opens her purse, pulls out $5200 cash, and places it on the counter. The bank manager hands over her car keys and says, “your car is parked out front miss, but if you do not mind me asking, you seem very rich, why did you need a $5000 loan?” The blonde woman smiles and says, “for $200, where else could I park in Downtown Manhattan for a month?”

THREE GUYS DIE AND GO TO HEAVENGod tells them, “Your vehicle in heaven will be determined based on how well you treated your wife.”The first guy says, “I never cheated on my wife.” As such, he gets a Lamborghini. The second guy says, “I cheated on my wife a little.” So he gets a used car.

The third guy says, “I cheated on my wife a lot.” So he gets a motorcycle. The second and third guys see the first guy crying. They ask, “Why are you crying? You got the best vehicle of all.” The first guy says, “I just saw my wife on rollerskates.”

GOOD CATCH. A girl sneezed in the pub and her glass eye flew out and landed in my hand. I took it back to her and we got chatting. After a few beers and a bit of flirting, I took her home and made love to her all night. I asked her, ‘do you sleep with everyone on a first date’. She said ‘no, Only those that catch my eye’

TWO MEN ARE SITTING IN A SALOON.. They’re arguing about whose horse can go longer without drinking water. One man says “ill bet you $20 that my horse can drink enough water to go two days without another drink.” The other man says, “well i’ll bet you $50 that my horse can drink enough water to go four days without another drink.” Suddenly a man that had been sitting at the end of the bar speaks up, “i’ll bet you both $100 that MY horse can drink enough water to go for SEVEN days without another drink!” The men take the bet. At the watering trough, the first man lets his horse drink. “That should last him 2 days easily”. So the second man lets his horse drink. After a few minutes the horse is done and the man says “well thats enough for 4 days worth!” So, finally, the third man take his horse to the trough and when the horse starts drinking the man picks up two flat rocks, walks behind the horse, and SMASHES the horses privates (***xx**!!) between them. The horse sucks in a HUGE gulp of water and the man says “well fellas, thats definitely enough water for my horse to go 7 days without a drink, pay up!” The men accept their defeat and pay their dues. One man, still in awe, says “doesnt that hurt?” And he replys “only if you get your fingers caught between the rocks!”

ARSENAL OWNER STAN KROENKE FORKS OUT OVER €600M FOR THE BIGGEST FENCED RANCH IN USStan Kroenke, the billionaire owner of the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams, has agreed to purchase the historic WT Waggoner Estate Ranch in Texas, representatives of the ranch said. Terms for the purchase of the more than 520,000-acre estate were not disclosed. The ranch had been listed with an asking price of $725m (€645m)

District Judge Dan Mike Bird in Vernon, Texas, allowed the family owners of the Waggoner Ranch to proceed in a private transaction with Kroenke, one of the wealthiest owners in professional sports and the owner of 11 ranches in Montana, Wyoming, Arizona, and British Columbia. The Waggoner went on the market in 2014 after Judge Bird ordered a sale to end more than 20 years of family litigation.

“This is an incredible opportunity and an even greater responsibility,” Kroenke said in a statement released by the Waggoner family and its representatives. “We are honoured to assume ownership of the Waggoner-a true Texas and American landmark.”

Kroenke recently decided to move his National Football League team from St. Louis to a privately financed $1.8bn stadium in Inglewood in Los Angeles. Along with the Rams, he also owns the National Basketball Association’s Denver Nuggets, the National Hockey League’s Colorado Avalanche, Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids, and two-thirds of the English Premier League’s Arsenal soccer club. Mr Kroenke’s fortune is estimated to be worth about $6.2bn.

SEAN QUINN BACK AT HQ THIS WEEKFresh tensions have blown up over the running of Seán Quinn’s old manufacturing empire, which has been under the control of new management for just over a year. The disputes have broken out as the company is planning to boost spending on new plant and vehicles and prepares to publish results showing that 2015 sales and profits were well ahead of 2014.A group of former Quinn Group executives, led by Liam McCaffrey, took over the business, which is now known as Quinn Industrial Holdings, in late 2014, and brought its founder back as a consultant. However, Concerned Irish Citizens, an organisation based in Quinn’s hinterland in Cavan and Fermanagh, recently began questioning on itsFacebook site the way in which the cement and packaging business is being run.The organisation, part of a movement that wanted to see Mr Quinn restored to his role at the group’s head, claimed that the company had “gone to the dogs” and questioned management’s commitment to its new investment. It is understood that there is tension between management and Mr Quinn over his role, which is focused on manufacturing and customer relationships. Sources say he believed he would play a bigger part in running the company and in decision-making

GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: ‘THE CARS MANY OF YOU WILL MOST LIKELY END UP BUYING THIS YEAR’FROM one set of Oscars to another. It’s glitz, glam and go at the Geneva Motor Show today as the world’s carmakers show off their latest wares and what they think we’ll be driving well into the future.

This is the springboard for many a car you will see in your local dealer within weeks, months or years.

There are the sensational, such as the McLaren 570GT, the Lamborghini €2m Centenario, the Bugatti Chiron (quad-turbocharged 8-litre W16 engine (with 1,479bhp; 0-100kmh in under 2.5secs) successor to the Veyron. All extraordinary design and technological achievements. But here too are the practical, the cars most of you will most likely end up buying new – or secondhand a few years down the road.Watch out for Audi’s smallest SUV, the Q2 which will compete with the Nissan Juke and Renault Captur. There are hatch, saloon and estate versions of the Tipo on show. Not sure if we’re getting all three in Ireland.

Ford has new Vignale models of the S-MAX, Kuga and Edge but we won’t see them in Ireland until mid-to-late 2017. The facelifted Kuga is due later in the year.Honda is previewing the next Civic with a concept.Hyundai is showing its hybrid Iconiq and KIA its Niro petrol-electric hybrid due in August/September. Their Optima Sportswagon arrives later in the year. The Lexus LC500h hybrid coupe arrives late next spring. Watch out for this. Looks wonderful.MercedesThe new open-top C-Class wowed us here. Looks so smart. Arrives April/ May. The E-Class arrives in April.Opel are thrilled with their Astra victory in the European Car of the Year. They are showing their GT Concept and a restyled Mokka.Peugeot, Citroen and Toyota all have large people carriers coming our way.Renault’s new Scenic is expected to be in Irish dealerships by late October. And there’s a new Megane Sport Tourer (estate) later in the year too.SEAT are creating a serious buzz with their long-awaited SUV, called the Ateca. It shares engines and underpinnings with the Leon hatchback and is a direct rival to the Renault Kadjar, Nissan Qashqai etc. Skoda are showing their new large SUV concept expected to be called the Kodiak. The 7-seater is expected in Ireland late next spring.SsangYong have their longer Tivoli XLV onshow and it will make Ireland by June.Suzuki’s new Baleno arrives in June too with a 1 litre Boosterjet engine.Toyota’s C-HR crossover coupe is looking good but no firm date on its likely arrival. The van-based MPV Proace– same underpinnings as Citroen Spacetourer and Peugeot Traveller – is here too.The T-Cross is Volkswagen’s latest SUV concept based on the Polo. And the up! city car gets a facelift.

Volvo’s S90 saloon will arrive in June with the estate V90 due in January. Also here is a facelifted V40 (with new Volvo look) which arrives in May.(Independent.ie)

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR

with “The Voice” Pat Harnett

AUSTIN STACK’S BACK WITH DOUBLE BILL:Sunday is a big day in Kerry GAA with the re-opening of Austin Stack Park following a huge re-vamp. With a new pitch, floodlights and ancillary facilities the stadium will once again become one of the best in the county. Location of the Austin Stack Park is one of the best around with it being 2 minutes from the bus and train station and with decent car parking near-by. However as this is commercial parking for the shopping centres near-by the GAA will probably have to look at doing a ‘Park and Ride’ maybe from John Mitchels new facility.Back to the stadium and it was great to pass it during the week and see the new floodlights on and players training on the pitch. The old clay based pitch has been replaced by a new sand based one, similar to the Fitzgerald Stadium in Killarney. From having a quick peak the pitch looks in perfect condition even after all the bad weather. With the development in Currans nearing completion this will take the pressure of having to have teams training at Austin Stacks Park. The Austin Stacks stadium project has cost up to e800,000 and is part of a huge investment in facilities by the County Board. Businesses in Tralee including the Chamber and the Tralee Hotels Alliance have committed to subscribe e250,000 over a five year period. The County Board has invested e400,000 with the remainder being negotiated with the corporate sector and Kerry County Council.History of the ground:On the weekend of the opening it is nice to take a minute to take a look back at the history of the Austin Stack Park. It is named after the captain of the 1904 All Ireland winning Kerry team. Austin Stack was born in 1879 and dies at the young age of 49 but crammed a lot into his life. He was Minister for Home Affairs in 1921/22 and a TD from 1923 to 1927 as an Anti-Treaty Sinn Fein TD. He was re-elected in the June 1927 election but did not contest the September 1927 election – two elections in a few months. I wonder if that’s an omen for 2016!!His health never recovered after his hunger strike and he died in a Dublin hospital on April 27th.There has been sport on the site since the 19th century when it was known as The Sportsfield and owned by the County Kerry Athletic and Cricket Club and the oval shaped pitch was surrounded by a cinder based sloping track, considered to be one of the finest in Ireland. In 1903 The Sportsfield was rented to GAA who purchased the grounds in 1929.In 1934 the pitch became a rectangular one, which spelled the end of the cinder track, and in 1944 it was named in honour of Austin Stack. It became the operational centre of the Kerry County Board in 1985 and has hosted some very big games including the All Ireland Senior B Hurling Championship final – with Kerry beating London, the 97-98 Sigerson Cup final won by IT Tralee and the first Kerry GAA game played under lights took place in 2001.In the height of the boom there was plan

to move the stadium to Ballybeggan but in 2012 this plan was scrapped and in 2014 the committee began plans for the upgrade with the results of many months of hard work will become seen by all this Sunday. Double Bill:Back to Sunday and fans will have the opportunity to cheer on both the Kerry hurlers and the footballers. The hurlers, who have certainly been catching the eye this season, continue their Allianz League Division 2 campaign when they take on Wexford at 12.30. This will be followed by the footballers taking on Donegal with a 2.30pm throw-in. They will be looking to carry on their good form from last weekend and a second win would almost certainly get rid of any niggling relegation worries.Sunday’s games are All Ticket games and ticket vans will be in operation. Tickets can also be pre purchased from the usual sources and turn-styles will be open from 11am with a very big crowd expected.Next Up:The new Austin Stack Park will also host all the counties minor and u21 games and next Wednesday, March 9th Kerry will play Tipperary in the Munster u21 Football championship to end a very busy week for the newly revamped stadium.

Juvenile Academy: There was another great turn-out for the underage training sessions, up to u16 and these teams train as usual this week.Seniors Win: The seniors enjoyed a good win in Round 5 of the Brendan’s League when they defeated Na Gaeil 2-16 to 1-10. The team has two games to play in the League – against Ballymac and Ardfert. Registration Forms have been distributed to all members and it is hoped these will be returned as soon as possible.Quiz Off: The planned fundraising table quiz has been postponed. A new date will appear in the Notes once finalised.

The Art competition was also hotly contested in Listowel and in the u8 girls Emily O’Reilly from Boherbee / Cloghers / Manor was 3rd. Sasha Stack from St Brendan’s Oakpark was 4th in the u10’s. DESTINY DAY IN WOMEN’S DIVISION 1:The only sure thing is that Kerry still has a big interest in the destination of the Women’s Division 1 Basketball title. And this Saturday night in Castleisland the two Kerry sides meet in the quarter final play-offs at 7.30pm. Team Den Joes American Style welcome Team Garvey’s in a game where both sides are going into in different form. The Tralee side went down 50-64 to Fr. Mathews from Cork, the side coached by Killarney’s James Fleming that the winner on Saturday night will meet.Garvey’s have had an ‘interesting’ season with the loss of coach Mark Bernsen in mid-season. He had to travel back to America when his house was flooded just as he was getting the team to play the way he wanted. He was replaced by Liam Culloty who has been working towards the play-offs since he took over. Team Garvey’s ended the regular season with the 7 win / 9 loss record as opposed to Team Den Joes American Style who won 11 of their 16 games. Garvey’s will be looking for big performances from Rheanne O’Shea, who is having an excellent season, Sinead Mackessy, Laura Hoffman, Amy Fitzgerald and Deirdre Geaney.

Team Den Joes are on a great run of wins and will be the hot favourites with Miriam Rollan proving to be an excellent signing. Lorraine Scanlon, Eileen O’Connor, Denise Dunlea and Aoife Nolan are others who coach Cormac O’Donoghue will be looking for big performances from. The game throws in at the Castleisland Community Centre at 7.30pm.

ST BRENDAN’S BASKETBALL NEWS:The St Brendan’s Basketball club hosted another successful u17 Jimmy Hobbert Annual Memorial Tournament. Sides from Cork, Galway and Sligo joined teams from Kerry in a feast of basketball which was won by Sligo All Stars. In the only other game played St Brendan’s defeated St Anne’s 44-26 in the Boys u14 Division 1.

LACEY CUP TAKEN ACROSS THE BORDER:Once again those involved in the organising of the Lacey Cup excelled with over 200 riders taking part in the Tralee Manor West iBike hosted race. The event took place in great weather and this saw huge crowds out on the course that took the riders on the loop from Tralee, Camp, Annascaul, Castlemaine and back to Tralee. The winner was the very impressive Darragh O’Mahony who comes from just across the border in Rockchapel and who rides with the O’Leary Stone Kanturk team. There was much to cheer about locally as well with the host club’s Cathal Moynihan finishing 4th and Denis Dunworth of Moda Kingdom Endurance taking 10th. In the A4 race Tralee Chain Gang rider Michael O’Sullivan was 4th. Tralee Manor West iBike’s George Doyle was the very popular winner of the Jackie O’Connor Trophy for the first club rider over the summit of Gleann na nGealt.

FRIDAY NIGHT’S THE BIG NIGHT:This Friday night at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium it’s the final of the GMHD.ie Juvenille Classic, one of the biggest in the country. Surrounding the big race will be a number of 12 dog finals over all distances plus open races over 525, 570 and 750 yards. On Saturday night the card will be an all graded event. Racing also takes place on Tuesday night as racing continues 3 nights a week.Starting on Friday night March 25th it’s the John and Mary Killeacle Dowling Memorial A1 current 570 yards. Satruday night sees the Tobar na Molt open unraced for coursing bred dogs. The Lee Strand A3 confined 550 yards starts on April 15th.

TALES FROM THE OCHE:The League continued last Friday night with a win in Group A for Parkers as they proved too strong for O’Connor’s Bar. In Group B The Complex Abbeydorney had a great 6-1 victory over the Huddle B. It was much closer between Slieve Mish and Railway Bar A with the latter winning 4-3. There were wins in Group C for Dew Drop Lixnaw who defeated Railway Bar 5-2 and Keane’s Bar Causeway who were 4-3 winner over the Huddle C. The last game saw Parkers B take on Boland’s Bar Castlegregory.

This was another close game with Boland’s Bar taking a 4-3 win. League games involving the 3 groups continue this Friday night 4th March.

DILLANE’E DELIGHT:Watching the Irish rugby team became a more personal experience for many last week as ex Tralee and now Connacht player Ultan Dillane made a big impression after coming off the bench. His work rate and ability to break the tackle and made hard yards earned his praise from the fans and media.

PARK 15’S MARCH ON IN NATIONAL CUP:St Brendan’s Park 15’s team are the last Kerry side left in the SFAI National Cup and they have reached the quarter finals. In the Last 16 game they defeated Nenagh away after extra time. A JR Tishikazto penalty put the Park ahead after 15 minutes. Nenagh equalised in the second half and with no further score the game went to penalties. Here it was the Park’s goalkeeper Conor Hayes who proved to be the hero as he saved three penalties. With Jordan Barry, JR Tishikato, James Rusk and Sean McGrath all successful from the spot the Park are into the last 8 where they will travel away to St Kevin’s Boys in Dublin.

GARY’S GOING GREAT:Ex Tralee Dynamos and Wolves player Gary O’Neill is making a big name for himself at UCD. Gary has had a memorable week. Firstly he captained UCD to their Harding Cup win defeating DCU 1-0. A few days later he was part of UCD’s Collingwood Cup win. The Dublin side won their 43rd Collingwood Cup with a 2-1 win over UL in the Mardyke in Cork. Gary was named Player of the Tournament. On the Greens:In the 2nd Round of the Castle Bar Spring League the winner was Michael G Casey on 26 points. Second was Bobby O’Keeffe on 25 points. In Round 2 Brian Monaghan took the win with 30 points followed by Bob Dillon with 28 points. The Top 5 Team Scores are Maurice Laide 216 points, Alan Kelly 215, Moss O’Connor 205, Willie Goulding 203 and David Sheehy on 202.
