Hoefler & Frere-Jones typefaces in

general. Archer, Knockout, Sentinel

I could go on for days!

What is it about architecture

that you love so much?

When I was younger I loved architecture

for the history connected to it. As

Ive grown up, a lot of it has to do

with attention to detail materials,

composition, color choices, and context.What are some of your favorite

sites/blogs?

littlebigdetails.com is great for those

really interested in user interface

and experience. As for industry news

I sort of jump all around the place.

Designer News by layervault.com is

useful, as is Sidebar.io. I also subscribe

to Fast Company for a more across-

the-board approach to articles. The

bulk of the articles I read, however,

come from designers, studios, and ad

agencies and what they tweet on

Twitter.

WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT TYPE OF CREATIVE ARE

YOU?

My name is Oliver erence Bernard Callanan but Iwork under the name Ollie C Design.Illustration is my anchor to excel in advertising,typography and animation.

HOW DID YOU GET INTERESTED IN ILLUSTRATION?

Early on in school I realized what subjects I suckedat and which ones I enjoyed. BEC Art was aspecialized option in my school, my mum had tobeg the teacher to let me in the class because I wasgoing through the rebellious stage.GCSEs started and I was at the ront o a class ogirls, I was so ar orward, isolated rom everyoneelse I couldnt see the board. It was there on thatlonely desk and wonky stool miles away romcivilization, I realized I loved to draw.I never looked back and managed to win the BtecArt Buckingham Cup beore I lef.Good things have continued to progress in mycareer since the old day like working or the ScienceMuseum and designing the brand direction or aclothing company.

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION?

I gain inspiration rom powerul ideas that will

challenge me like trying to express the epicatmosphere o a Hungover Cheetah. Humor isimportant like the series I did or a Pam Ayres PoemI only once again my hair would sprout, i whatcame up matched what ell out.I enjoy urthering interests like the Badass Honey

Badger into character design and ocusing onanatomy like Abs-normally Henchman. A strongpassion is inspired by hand-produced typographyand I enjoy the design process or woodblockletterpress present in my Ya piece.

I think outside the box or alternative ways toadvertise; previously, Ive used the power o a beardto advertise Xyience Xenergy drinks throughanimation.I always challenge my aesthetic to better my skills;recently I completed a 24hour comic event inspiredby Plymouth City Museum, which sparked a projectabout alternative uses or an iron. I am currentlydesigning with Russell Hobbs using a Guerillaapproach to advertise irons to students.Keep an eye on my blog to find out more.

WHAT IS YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS?

My creative process depends on the brie; the ideaand drawing is my anchor, I brainstorm to expandrom here. Eager to learn new skills and sofware tobetter my process I generally urther drawing withink and bleach, letterpress, print, texture and loveto experiment with color like Te Emotional fishto elaborate the emotion. Finalizing my Imagery Itouch up with CAD and see how ar I can urther my

design whilst keeping the traditional appearance.Currently, I am searching or my place in a studio toengage and bring my enthusiasm to the rontier othe creative industry.
