New Regulations for Public Transport

“The Public Transport Authority recently advised the City of Albany the SmartRider electronic ticketing system will be introduced on the 22 July 2013 on the TransAlbany fare paying town and school based bus services.

This means if your child catches or transfers onto a Town/School Bus Service - SmartRider cards and cash fares will be the only method to purchase tickets on those bus services. The current Multirider token system will cease as of that date. Smartrider ticketing equipment will also be installed on the outer regional School Bus Services ensuring smooth transfers for students needing to catch more than one bus on their way to school.

It must be noted students can only obtain the Student 50 cent fare by using their Student SmartRider. Student SmartRiders must also be presented as proof of concession entitlement on all regional town bus services when purchasing cash tickets.

It is important students apply for and receive their SmartRiders before the effective date 22 July 2013 so they can start using SmartRider when the system goes live. To obtain a SmartRider parents need to complete a SmartRider application form, the form must be signed and stamped by the school and mailed to Monitor WA. (with a $5 cheque, money order – This is only for Secondary Students or replacement cards)

The Application forms are available from the School Administration Office or through the TransPerth website.

All parents are advised to read the TransAlbany brochure outlining the process for obtaining a SmartRider which includes the methods to add value to the SmartRider and if you have any enquiries relating to SmartRider, Please call the TransPerth Infoline on 136213 (Free Call)”

Albany Schools Music Showcase Last week Amber, Alex, Will and Nathaniel who learn a musical instrument with our School of Instrumental Music program performed magnif icently in this showcase of musical talent. The range of perform-ances and variety of talent was a real credit to Mrs Sandra Woonings, our School of Instrumental Music teacher. It is great to see our students excel in all ar-eas and in particular music. Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) As part of our Little Grove Primary School Business Plan and the focus area of a Positive and Supportive Learning Environment we are implementing Positive Behaviour Support (PBS). This entails:

Establishing a positive, proactive school-wide behaviour management practice that is a necessary first step for enabling schools to achieve the educational goals of all students. Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) also known as SWPBS, supports the development of an approach based on the underlying principles of decision making guided by data, the establishment of effective school wide routines and consistent responses to behaviour, both positive and negative.

PBS is a research-based process that, when correctly implemented, is proven to create safer and more effective schools. PBS relies on organisational change strategies to improve the social culture, learning and teaching environment in schools, and to provide the individual behaviour supports needed to achieve academic and social success for all students.

Schools implementing PBS build on existing strengths, complimenting and organising current programming and strategies. Positive Behaviour Support is not a curriculum, a program or an intervention. It differs from any program currently in place in that it is a whole school approach to improvement.

This framework or process will take 3 years to fully implement and will involve the supportive collaboration and input from parents, staff and students. We wish you all a safe and happy mid year break.

Room 3 Strawberry Hill Farm Visit

The best part of the excursion was when Mr. Pritchard showed us the old games. Mr. Pritchard showed us games like spinning- top, hoop-racing, cup and ball, skipping, knuckle-bones and marbles. All the good games were boy games and all the bad games were girl games. After he showed us the games it was lunch. I wonder if the kids had fun without iPads and a TV. After lunch I played hoop-racing then I gave my hoop and stick to Mya. I felt really, really happy.

The best bit of the excursion was when Mr.Pritchard showed us the old fashioned games that the children played. We got to play the amazing knuckle bones, marbles and spinning top. Mr.Pritchard showed us how to play. The boy games were called cup and ball, the favourite game in the boys section was cup and ball. The girl games were called horse shoe throw, skipping and hoop chasing. My favourite game in the section was hoop chasing. I had the best day in my life! It was awesome. I wonder if the girls didn’t like boys in the old days?

My favourite part of the excursion was when the room 3 students learned how to plant spuds. First we planted the spuds. Mine was next to Angus’s. Next we watered the spuds. The people back then did not use a hose. Back then they used a water-ing can and a creek. Cool is that!!! I wonder how far they had to walk to get to a creek?

By Bastian

My best part of the excursion was when we went with Mr Pritchard into an old cottage. They had old flour bag’s made into clothes it was amaz-ing! The old cottage was made in 1833 it is very old. Then we planted spud’s the spud’s were very small. We planted them in a wide patch of dirt. Mr Pritchard said they will grow very big and he will take photos

of them.By Ella

On Friday 7 June at 11 o’clock Room 3 kids and some Room 3 parents went on an excursion. Room 3 went to Strawberry Hill Farm. First of all we met Mr Pritchard. He showed us the old fashioned objects. The objects I can remem-ber are a sifter, record pins and an old shoe and old clothes that they made out of flower sacks.

Then we went inside the farm house. The children shared 3 rooms and the adults shared 2 rooms.

After that we went to see the old games. The games were hoop racing, knuckle bones, marbles, skipping, cup’n’ ball and spinning top.

Next we planted potatoes and harvested vegetables.

Last of all we got on the bus and went back to school.
