We are very lucky to have another great exchange student associated with our club this year. I would remind all members to keep him in mind over the student holidays. If you are heading away anywhere and are able to accommodate Ilari on your trip I’m sure he would love to come along and experience more of our beautiful country. I would also like to extend a warm welcome to our newest Hope Island Ro- tarian, Graeme Morcom. It was a great pleasure to induct you last week and I look forward to getting to know you better and work with you in the future. Aſter been in cold old Melbourne all week it was great to be back on the sunny Gold Coast on Monday. With Monday been International Day of Peace I’d remind club members to continue to spread a little bit more peace in our own communities. By being instruments of peace in our own community we change our own community directly and very quickly the impact will be felt around the world. I have been asked to remind the Service Committee that the Rotary Youth Transition Seminar begins on 28 November 2015. To date registrations in our District from Clubs has been very low. Closing date for applications is 20 October 2015. e program is directed towards year 11 and 12 students or students aged 17 or 18. It will be held at Tyalgum Ridge Retreat from Satur- day 28 November to Friday 4 December. If members are aware of someone who may be interested the cost is $550 per awardee. e application forms are available on the District website in the Youth Program section (under Rota- ry Youth Transition Seminar). Applications should be forwarded to District RYTS Chair Harry Bolton, from the Rotary Club of Tenterfield. 1st to 8th of October is Reconnect Week for our Rotary Alumni. All Clubs have been asked to consider holding an event during this week to reconnect with their own Alumni. Don’t forget to pass on Alumni information to Past District Governor Sandy Doumany who is our District Alumni Chair. e 2016 International Convention Committee has called for breakout pro- posals from Clubs and interested Rotarians for the various breakout sessions to be conducted at the 2016 Seoul International Convention. e closing date for submitting proposals is 15 October 2015. If you have a proposed breakout session that you would like to see conducted at the International Convention please forward the details to me and I will ensure that they are forwarded to our Rotary International Director and the Committee. Bianca Surch our District Facebook Co-ordinator is doing a wonderful job with the District Facebook site. For those of you who have already connected with the Facebook page for District 9640 you will understand the significance of the work that she is doing. If you haven’t connected with the Rotary Dis- trict 9640 Facebook page please do so. It is a treasure trove of Rotary infor- mation and information as to the goings on in District 9640. In the future any Club events that we wish to be advertised on the District Facebook page we must submit to Bianca ([email protected]) and she will ensure that it is given an appropriate profile on the District Facebook page. Clubs have also been reminded that the we are able to advertise such events on the District website and in the District Governor’s Newsletters as well. e Glen Innes Club again are organising the wonderful Ride for Rotary to raise funds for Australian Rotary Health through sponsorship. e Ride for Rotary will start at Tenterfield on 3 May 2016 and arrive in Murwillumbah in time for the commencement of the District Conference on Friday 6 May 2016. Last year this group raised more than $10,000 through the bike ride. It will travel from Tenterfield via Liston and Kyogle to Murwillumbah. Plan- ning is underway. If you are a keen bike rider or just like to get onto wheels please contact Graham Price from the Rotary Club of Glen Innes. IN 1945, THE WRITTEN OBJECTIVE FOR THE ROTARY FOUNDATION WAS: 1. The Promotion of The Rotary Foundation Fellowships for advanced study; 2. The fostering of any tangible and effective projects which have as their purpose the furthering of better un-derstanding and friendly relations between the peoples of different nations; and 3. The providing of emergency relief for Rotarians and their families wherever war or other disaster has brought general destruction and suffering.

THE ROTARY FOUNDATION CONTINUES TO DO “GOOD WORK” TODAY!

Matching people with money for positive results In the words of Arch Klumph: “Money alone does little good. Individual service is helpless without money. The two together can be a godsend to civilization.” Your financial resources combined with your time, energy and talent is critical to Rotary’s mission. 89% of your contribution goes directly to the programs of The Rotary Foundation while 2% is used for administration and 9% is for fundraising. These percentages are remarkable among charities across the world. This is why The Rotary Founda-tion gets such high marks from organizations that rank charities, such as Charity Navigator and the Better Business Bureau.

As Rotarians, there is no better place to donate our money. We get to use our own contributions to do good in the world.

Pride of Workmanship Award

At Rotary, we strongly believe that “Pride of Workmanship” – the sense of responsibility to do a job well - is one of the greatest assets in every business community.

As part of our campaign to encourage “Pride of Workmanship”, Rotary gives recognition to em-ployees, through their employers, where it is due. With your help, this recognition can be spread amongst your employees and beyond.

We would like to give you the opportunity to nominate one of your employees who, in your opinion, is displaying qualities worthy of such an award. Successful nominees will receive recog-nition at a Breakfast, at the Hope Island Links Golf Club, on Wednesday 4th November, 2015 at 7:00am.

At this breakfast, the overall winner of our 2015 “Pride of Workmanship” Award will be an-nounced. Our guest speaker on this morning will be Mr Kenton Campbell, CEO of Zarraffa’s Coffee, himself a multi-award winner for business excel-lence.

If you would like to nominate one of your em-ployees, please complete the attached nomination form and email or call us for collection.

Contact:

Catherine – Ph: 0419 221 [email protected]

Bronwyn – Ph: 0407 011 138 [email protected]

If your nominee is selected as a finalist, we will call you for further information.

Please help to build “Pride of Workmanship” in our community.

If guests are not registered then ca-tering will not be available. Thanks to all members for your assistance in these matters and if you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to refer to either the instructions under the ‘Help’ menu on our website or talk to Gareth.
