Italian foodAnd
drinks
Focaccia is not pizza and is about 2000 years older.
It is from the Latin 'focaccia' meaning hearth
or fireside.
Torrone di Cremona is
a traditional
nougat that can be
found in many
regions throughout Italy, Spain and France thanks to
the Arabs.
The word torrone is definitely of Latin origin
and comes from “torrere”, meaning to toast. Torrone
is made with toasted almonds, honey and other ingredients including egg
whites.
The Italian drink
Ah, Prosecco. A wonderful Italian
drink. It’s a bubbly straw-
yellow white wine which often comes
from the Conegliano-
Valdobbiadenearea areas of Italy.
Made of over 70 different barks and herbs, it was first
produced in Benevento, central Italy and is steeped in history
where it is told that the drink was first made by beautiful female sprites
and used their new potion to cast spells on
lovesick humans, thereby giving its name, Strega, meaning witch. Also this is 40% proof.
