THE JOURNEY

The journey started in 2012, when Nicolò andOmar, friends as well as watch enthusiasts, founded2DStraps, an Italian brand that makes leatherwatches straps for luxury watches with top qualityTuscany leather.

Their dream to build an authentic Italian timepiececomes true in 2017, when they foundedVIQUERIA.

VIQUERIA is a start-up based in Voghera, Italy, acity close to Milano and hometown of the twofounders Nicolò and Omar, with the mission todeliver to Customers affordable but quality andappealing watches, which does not cost an arm anddelivers everyday pleasure to wear.

ITALIAN ROOTS

The name of the Italian-rooted brand takes itsorigins from the ancient Italian history because wewant to give to our products a strong footprint thatrise from our origins.Viqueria is the ancient roman name given duringMiddle Age to the city of Voghera, located in thenorth of Italy far approximately 40 km fromMilano. Our hometown was founded byAugustus, a Roman politician and generalconsidered the first Roman emperor, controllingthe Roman Empire from 27 BC until his death inAD 14.Known in ancient times as Iria, it took its namefrom the river on which it was situated. DuringMiddle Age it was destroyed by the Rugii, a tribewho migrated from southwest Norway. Afterseveral lordships, it was acquired by the House ofSavoy in 1743 with the Concordat of Worms. Fiveyears later it became provincial capital and receivedthe city status.During World War II, owing to its strategicposition on the roads Milan-Genoa and Turin-Bologna, it was heavily bombed by the Allies.

Viqueria Roma is a classy automatic watch, madein Italy, inspired from Rome and its AncientRoman Empire.

ROMA comes in three, stylish colourcombinations - the Tirreno Blue comes with anavy bursting blue dial, the Etna Black comes witha black dial and the Alpi White comes with a silverpearl dial.Furthermore, the dial is realized with the “sundray”process that allows the metal to absorb and reflectlight differently depending on the ambientconditions, thus giving a change in the shades andbrightness that makes the watch unique.

The hands are designed to look like a "Gladio", theancient sword used by the Roman Empire Army.The subdial at the 9 o'clock position, is an hoursrepeater complication and is designed to look likethe "Colosseo" seen from the sky.

To complete the inspiration, the dial tells timethanks to the stamped roman numerals.

HANDMADE LEATHER STRAPS

All VIQUERIA timepieces are fitted withhandmade leather straps made by the 2DStraps.For a great wear, we only use fine Italian leathers,which are renowned for their quality.

Special cares go into making Italian leather piecesthan any other leather product in the world. Weonly use natural vegetable and plant extracts to turnhides into leather. It’s not mass produced and theprocess takes longer than it would to producecheaper alternative.

Furthermore, leather from Italy is also traditionally"full grain" leather, which is made from the verybest raw hides, so that they do not need to besanded to get rid of imperfections. Full-grainleather is tougher and more durable than othertypes of leather, and as it ages, it gains a beautifulsheen. SAPPHIRE CRYSTAL

All of our watches are fitted with sapphire crystal.Sapphire is a naturally growing crystal and thesecond hardest substance on the planet, so hard thatonly a diamond can scratch it.

The end result is beautiful, but more importantlyhardly unbreakable. Sapphire rates 9 on the Mohscale (that’s the measures of relative hardness ofmaterials) and it is just behind diamond whichmeasures 10.

Generally there are three types of crystals used inwatchmaking: sapphire crystals, mineral crystals,plexiglas crystals. Sapphire crystal is among thefeatures that pushes up the price of top endwatches. This is because of the need for expensivetools which use diamonds to cut and shape thesapphire and the craftsmanship involved.

MIYOTA MOVEMENT

Miyota 8217 is a robust and accurate automaticmovement manufactured by Citizen in Japan. The8217 is one of the strongest, most solid automaticmovements on the market.

It is a 21 jewels movement beating at 21,600 bph or3Hz (6 half-cycles per second). Jewels, typicallysynthetic rubis, are used in watch movements notto add to their value, but to reduce friction andwear on moving parts. The standard for qualitywatches is 17jor more. Anything over 25j for thesetypes of movements are just for decoration.

Most modern watches have some form of shockprotection around the balance wheel, as that's oneof the most delicate parts of the movement. Miyotahas developed in 1956 a proprietary shockresistance technology used till this day in many oftheir movements as in the Miyota 8217.

316L STAINLESS STEEL CASE

Stainless steel is among the most protective shieldsaround. All VIQUERIA timepieces aremanufactured in 316L stainless steel, the same steelused to make surgical and diving equipments, thathas extra-low carbon content and is extremelyresistant to corrosion such as seawater or acidicliquids.

Our steel is also magnetic resistant, unlike thegeneral-use stainless steel grade of 201or 304L.With Molybdenum added, it gives 316L a betteroverall corrosion-resistant property than 304L.Plus,our stainless steel’s low carbon content makes itparticularly resistant to corrosion from acidstypically found in the ocean and in perspiration.

Corrosion resistance of austenitic Stainless Steels,such as 316L and 904L (used by some swiss brands),are very similar for all practical purposes in a watch.
