The Alps 11. situated in the south of Italy, in the heel of our famous boot 12. Taranto The town of the two seas 13. Taranto was founded in 706 BC by Greek immigrants as a Spartan colony. 14. The Partheniae arrived in Apulia, and founded the city, naming it Taras after the son of the Greek sea god, Poseidon, and of a local nymph, Satyrion. Taras is the founder of the Greek colony of Taras (Tarentum, modern Taranto), in Magna Graecia. 15.
