It’s About Physicians NEWSLETTER FOR Hospital News CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR PHYSICIANS OF THE MONTH MERCY GILBERT MEDICAL CENTER TERRY HAPPEL, M.D. - CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER Dr. Terry Happel is being honored as Mercy Gilbert’s Physician of the Month for May 2012. His support and experience as a physician has benefited everyone as he has served as Chief Medical Officer for the past six years. His nominator, Trish Jullian, has the following to say about him: Over the last six years, Dr. Happel has been there for all of us. He personally supported me when I wanted to start the physician of the month program. After implementing the program here, it has been implemented at Chandler and some of our sister hospitals in California. Dr. Happel is a physician who supports all of us because of his vast knowledge extending from what the patient requires to understanding how to be in compliance with our licensing agencies. We have been very fortunate to have him as our Chief Medical Officer. CHANDLER REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER DANTON DUNGY, M.D. - ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON We received a letter from the wife of one of Dr. Danton Dungy’s surgical patients singing his praises, and earning him the Chandler Regional Physician of the Month for May. The patient, a winter visitor, met Dr. Dungy at a presentation given at Mercy Gilbert. After a subsequent consult with the doctor, decided that Dr. Dungy was the right doctor to perform the long procrastinated surgery. The patient’s wife says “the care at Chandler was top notch. Dr. Dungy went above and beyond to help us feel comfortable about the procedure, to educate us and was available when we needed him. He had a wonderful caring approach with us and I felt that my husband made an excellent choice.” Beyond the care her husband received while at Chandler Regional, the patient’s wife was especially impressed with the care she received as well: Dr. Dungy was very compassionate, and his nurses were too. A day after my husband’s surgery, I had my own outpatient surgery done elsewhere for something different. I came back after my procedure still in pain. Everyone asked me if I was okay and if I needed anything. Time and again the patient and his wife received positive feedback about their decision to see Dr. Dungy for his surgery. To close her letter, the patient’s wife says: Dr. Dungy, even the other patients in the lobby told us about how great you were and that we had nothing to worry about; the golf cart driver also spoke very highly of you. With all this, we knew we made an excellent choice and we sure were right about that. Thank you. Patient Satisfaction Update Patient Satisfaction scores are in, and we are making strides in the right direction. Thanks to all your efforts in helping each of your patients have the best experience possible at Chandler Regional and Mercy Gilbert Medical Centers. We received a letter from the wife of one of Dr. The patient’s wife says “the care at Chandler was top notch. while at Chandler Regional, the patient’s wife was especially impressed with the care she received as well:

Chandler Regional Construction UpdatePhase two construction has begun! It’s an important phase of construction because a new main entry drive will be created for the hospital, along with a new raised helipad that will be operational this fall.

This new phase will result in a few impacts, including:

• ThemaindriveoffofFryeRoadwillbeclosed.• AmbulancetrafficwillenteroffPenningtonRoad,northofFairviewStreet.• TheaccessdrivesonDobsonRoadandFairviewStreetwillremainopenfor

general use.

Work on the south parking lot continues at a fast pace. Paving is scheduled for next week. The area is still on track to be finished a month early and will open by June 1st. Here are some new facts about the

construction:

• Lastweekwelearnedthatthe concrete vaults under the south parking lot will hold approx. 2.16 million gallons of storm drain water. The complete storm drain system installed includes:

• Sevenin-grounddrywellsthat have been drilled down to a depth of 80 feet.

• Approximatelyonemileofunder-ground storm drain piping.

• Approximately140linearfeetof10’round retention piping under the new helipad.

• Thenewstormdrainsystemhasthe capacity to hold approximately 2.5 million gallons of water - that is equal to 267 million cans of soda!

• Thereinforcingbarsthatwereplaced in the concrete vaults weighed in at approximately 256,000 pounds of steel. That is equal to the weight of 95 Mini Coopers.

• Therewasapproximately2,500cubic yards of concrete placed to form the vaults. That is equal to 9.8 million pounds of concrete. If you place all that concrete as 4” back yard patio, you would have a patio the size of 400’ x 500’ = 200,000 SF (roughly the same square footage as the new tower will be).

Thank you for your continued dedication as we improve Chandler Regional’s campus.

Hospitalist Poster Helps Patients Identify CaregiversChandler Regional and Mercy Gilbert are fortunate to work with two excellent hospitalist groups, Alliance and Pioneer. In the halls of the hospitals you will see a poster identifying our current hospitalists for our patients during their stay.

2011-2012 HOSPITALISTSChandler Regional Medical Center

Mercy Gilbert Medical Center

Hospitalists practice primarily in the hospital and commonly care for patients whose primary care physicians prefer not to provide inpatient care or who lack admitting privileges at the hospital. We work with two excellent hospitalist groups, Alliance and Pioneer. Throughout your stay, the hospitalist group responsible for your care will stay in contact with your primary care physician to ensure a smooth transition in and out of the hospital, and return you to the care of your primary care physician at the end of your hospital stay.

Policies & ProceduresTiPS FOR uSiNg SECuRE E-MaiLIn the current healthcare environment “email” is generally viewed as a good means of communicating patient information. However, the HIPAA Security Rule requires access controls (45 CFR § 164.312(a)) be in place to uphold the integrity (45 CFR § 164.312(c)(1)), of patient information by requiring facilities to implement policies and procedures that restrict access, that protect the integrity of information, and that guard against unauthorized access of e-PHI. Dignity Health™ Policy #110.1.046 spells out the steps facilities must take for email communications. Dignity Health™ has developed some Quick Tips for sending secure emails by employees, as well as for secure email recipients.

When transmitting patient information or sensitive hospital information outside of the Dignity Health™ network -- there are two methods an email leaves the network securely:

• ManyusershaveabuttonwithinOutlookcalledMarkSecure.Thisfeature appends #secure# in the subject line.

• UserswhodonothavetheOutlookbuttonmusttypein#secure#manually.

It is required to have a preceding space between the content of the subject line and #secure# (example: Test Results #secure#).

When communicating via email with a patient the Consent for EMail Communication of Protected Health Information must be signed by the patient (or patient’s representative) in accordance to Dignity Health™ Policy #110.1.046.

BOWEL CaRE REMiNDERChandler Regional and Mercy Gilbert’s Medication Safety Committee Bowel Care Reminder: Please remember to order adequate bowel care (docusate, senna, etc) when your patient is on a narcotic. We have seen delays in discharges and readmissions due to constipation following narcotics given without adequate bowel care.

2012 George Rozsa Golf Classic Most Successful in 10-year HistoryWith sponsors in place, a sold-out field, perfect weather, and the Ocotillo Golf Resort in great condition the 2012 George Rozsa Golf Classic launched from the tee boxes on April 27th. Players and volunteers alike were enjoying the sunshine and hospitality supplied by the nearly two dozen sponsors for this year’s event, including Premier Emergency Medical Specialists, Dignity Health™ Volunteers & Medical Staffs, and the Arizona Cardinals. Complete with current and former NFL Players and Arizona Cardinal Cheerleaders, the stage was set for the most successful day in the tournament’s ten-year history. Said first time player Jeff Bucher, CEO of Infincom, “this is by far one of the best tournament atmo-spheres I have been involved with and I am already planning on being back next year”. The Dignity Health™ Foundation staff would like to extend our continuous gratitude to all our volunteers, sponsors, golfers, and community partners for their continued support and commitment to Mercy Gilbert and Chandler Regional Medical Centers. Your generosity makes a real difference in the lives of the families and individuals we serve.
