Celebrating 30 Years

A Dream Turns 30!

On July 1, 2016, Patchwork Plus begins its 30th year.

Thirty years seems like a long time...three decades… YIKES! It’s hard to think back to 1986. Fellow quilter and friend, Carol Benson and I were having trouble finding 100% cotton fabric. The store continued to grow and in 1996 Tom and I took on Bernina sewing machines. We built our own building in 2006 and here we are. On July 1st we will be starting our 30th summer of business. I can truly say that I can't think of a better way to have spent those years. I have met so many wonderful people and had a lot of fun. I still can't wait to get to work in the morning. You can make this scrappy or planned; batiks or traditional; multiple colors or gradations of one color. If anyone has ever wanted to make a black and white quilt, this might be the time. Use blacks and whites for the log cabin strips, then use bright colors for the center stars to make them really pop. To make this block Perri will be using the Deb Tucker "Wing Clipper” for the flying geese points of the stars. If anyone is familiar with this ruler, you know they will be perfect!

Friday, May 13 10 - 4pm $40.00

EMBELLISHING A NATURE PRINT with Jan Navales MOTHER NATURE ALWAYS HAS THE BEST OFFERINGS… This class is very fun and very easy. Learn how to “nature print” and then use free motion stitching to embellish your artwork. If you have never done either, this is the perfect class to learn both. There are NO strict guide lines and no mistakes. We will discuss layouts and colors to help you make great art. You will be printing fabric using leaves, dry your print and then do free motion stitching on your finished piece. The feel of the print has a soft hand and is great for even a whole quilt. No heat setting, machine washable. This creative endeavor is wonderful for adding your very personal touch to bags & totes, borders for curtains, table runners and mats, wall hangings and what ever else your mind can think of. We are allowing 4 hours for this class. It may not take that long. Whenever I offer this class everyone wants to print more. Our goal is it to finish one small piece with border fabrics of your choice.

Saturday, August 13 9:30 - 1:30pm $40.00

SPRING again - well - we hope! After a calm Winter....... Spring came in with a big WHITE surprise. Our first "Knit In" was a big success so watch for a date in the fall to do it again. We took 84 hats from the "Knit In" and more to the Samaritan Center, 155 hats in all and they, needless to say, were very pleased to receive them. In the last few years we have donated over 600 hats to several charities and certainly expect to continue this project, We have several free patterns for these hats. I expect you will all keep knitting some projects over the summer. Our books are 25% off and our sale yarn area is well supplied, with new additions from time to time. ~ Kitsie Demeree
