Topic: Symmetry

Symmetry

If two or more parts of a figure are identical after folding or flipping then it is said to be symmetry. To be symmetrical the two halves of a shape must be of same shape and size.

If the shape is not symmetrical then it is said to be asymmetrical.

Line of Symmetry

It is an imaginary line which divides the image into two equal halves. It could be horizontal, vertical or diagonal. There could be one or more than one line of symmetry in a figure.

Lines of Symmetry for Regular Polygons

If all the sides and angles of a polygon are equal then it is said to be a regular polygon. Like the equilateral triangle, square etc.

All the regular polygons are symmetrical shapes.

In the regular polygon, the number of lines of symmetry is the same as the number of its sides.

Reflection Symmetry

If we draw a dotted line which gives the mirror reflection of the other half of the image then it is reflection symmetry. It is the same as basic symmetry which tells us that if the dotted line divides the image into two equal halves then it is the reflective symmetry of the figure.

Assignment-2

The pictures shown below show symmetry in them. Symmetry gives beauty to the picture , nature shows symmetry in it.

Collect 10 pictures of symmetrical shapes, figures , objects etc. around you and paste them on a A4 size sheet. Also draw the line of symmetry in all the images.

Assignment-3

Using the concept of symmetry, complete the given figure and colour it.

SCIENCE

Activity- Staying healthy the cheaper way

Search and find out easily available local cheaper alternative food items that can be included in the diet to make it wholesome and easily affordable (at least 5 food items). Present your findings on an A4 size sheet/ppt with pictures of food items.

2. Easily available mint chutney / jaggery can replace expensive broccoli.

Value based: Educate your siblings about the nutrition value of these foods that can help to stay healthy and prevent malnutrition.

Ch-9 Living Organisms- their surroundings and characteristics (Do the following questions in your Science notebook)

Food Item Kiwi

Nutrients Rich in Calcium, potassium, Iron, fibre, folic acid, Vitamin-A, B,C, etc.

Q.1 Out of desert and aquatic plants whose roots are almost absent?

Q.2 Which plants have leaves without stomata- underwater plants or mountain plants?

Q.3 Plants in hilly areas have to bear high speed winds and cold. Which adaptation best helps them to face such conditions?
