– This test is taken to qualify for scholarships and programs associated with the National Merit Scholarship program
– Test Date: October 14th
SPRING• Register for and take exams for college admission• SAT is taken in January and June of the Junior Year• ACT is taken in April (on campus) of Junior Year and September or
October of Senior Year • Use the U.S. Depart of Labor’s scholarship search to find
scholarships for which you might want to apply
How do I help my 11th grader?• Help the scholar manage stress
– Keep open lines of communication with the school• Utilize Powerschool with fidelity (Uplift Summit App)
– Help your scholar manage their time and develop effective study skills
• Loosen the reins a bit– As scholars prepare for life after high school, they must be
afforded opportunities to make their own decisions even if they will cause failure
– Give scholars some independence while making sure they follow through on their responsibilities
• Discuss community service with your scholars• Discuss Balance with your scholars

Things to know• When you scholar completes their
11th grade year, the 11th grade transcript is the one that is sent to colleges (this year is extremely important)
• Two college fairs in April• Go to Quickstart on
Collegeboard.com– It provides a lot of practice and college
information

• Spring is when the scholars will start the College Application process– They will write college personal
essays
Benefits of Advanced Placement Classes• It stands out in college
admissions• Earn college credits• Possibly skip introductory
classes• Build college skills

Advanced Placement classes• Scholars have the opportunity
during their high school career at Summit to take 14 different AP classes
• AP is a rigorous course, but when scholars score at least a 3, the scholar receives college credit in the state of Texas
Advanced Placement
• We encourage scholars to sit for an AP course even if they don’t sit for the exam because of the level of rigor they receive and college preparation
ACT
ACT and Summit
• We provide your scholars with many opportunities to take benchmark exams to prepare them for the ACT– 9th grade – EXPLORE – 25– 10th grade – PLAN - 32– 11th grade – ACT - 36
ACT and Summit– Each test is given 3 times per year– Teachers review the data and
create action plans to address the skills the scholars need to work on
– We are purchasing a test prep program for all of our 11th graders to use during our intervention and enrichment period to keep practicing the assessment
