Students` answers We spend Christmas Eve at home. While Christmas Days we
take family visits or invite family members and friends for that to
spend this time together.
We spend Christmas at home. Some of us visit our family and friends over the holidays. Some
of us have our Grandparents come to our house for Christmas
dinner.

What do you have to decorate your home?

At Christmas Eve we decorate the tree with glass balls, paper toys, lights and natural
ornaments like apples or nuts.
We put lights and decorations on curtains, doors, and walls of our houses. We decorate
the table with white cloth. Some of us prepare the model of Nativity scene from
paper or small sculptures.
We have a Christmas tree with lights and decorations. We put our Christmas cards up in our houses too. Some people have lights
outside to decorate the outside of our houses.

When do you get your Christmas presents?

Most of us receive presents while Christmas Eve supper. They are all placed under the Christmas
tree and can be opened after the supper celebrations. We collect our presents during visiting the family on Christmas time because some of presents were put under the wrong
Christmas tree.
We get our presents on Christmas Day. Father Christmas bring them on Christmas Eve when we are asleep.
He comes on his sleigh pulled by reindeer and brings our presents down
the chimney. When we wake up on Christmas Day they are there and we
open them.

In Poland we get our presents from the Little Child - Jesus .
In our Silesia region it is said that it is an Angel who gives presents at
Christmas. Nobody knows the true, as we couldn`t see them so far...
Father Christmas, or Santa Claus, brings our presents.

What do you eat on Christmas Day?

Traditionally, we prepare 12 meals for Christmas Eve supper, what is more - meat is not included in
menu that day. Menu can be different according to family traditions.
There are: mushroom soup, fish or beetroot soup; carp, herrings and cabbage prepaired in many
ways, pierogi (dumplings filled with cabbage and mushrooms), sweets made from poppy seeds...
Our Christmas dinner is turkey with roast potatoes and vegetables. We have stuffing with
our turkey and little sausages wrapped in bacon. These are called ‘pigs in blankets’.
For pudding we have Christmas Pudding with
Brandy Sauce, Christmas Cake or Chocolate Log.

Our favourite Christmas carol is “Przybieżeli do Betlejem pasterze”.
which means: “The Shepherds came to Bethlehem”.

1. Sharing white thin wafer during the Christmas Eve with giving wishes and forgiving to our nearest and dearest.2. Going for a midnight service to the church for that to
celebrate the birth of Jesus.
In all churches there are displays of Bethlehem stable`s scene.
3. Singing Christmas carols with family members.

Day3. We put out a mince pie and a glass of brandy

We connect animals who stayed in the Bethlehem`s cowshed: donkey, steer and
sheeps.It is believed that animals can speak
human voice during Christmas night, but only innocent person can hear them!
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer who guides Father Christmas’s sleigh when
he delivers the presents.
