Food Pyramid

Grains•Eat 6-11 servings of grain per day

•Grains are divided into 2 subgroups

Whole grains such as: Whole wheat Brown rice Oatmeal Bulgur Whole cornmeal

Refined grains such as: White flour White bread White rice Degermed cornmeal

•Try to make at least half your grains whole grains instead of refined.

Fruits• Eat 2-3 servings of fruit per day

•Any type of fruit or 100% fruit juice

•FRESH IS BEST !!!•Other options: Frozen Dried Canned 100% fruit juices

•Types of fruit:Oranges ApplesGrapes PearsPeaches KiwiWatermelon BananasLemons/Limes BerriesMangos and more!!!

Fruit snacks are not fruit..

but bananas are!!

Even Kitty’s love fruit!

Vegetables•Eat 2-3 servings of Vegetables per day

•There are 5 subgroups of vegetables

Dark green Vegetables Any dark green vegetableOrange Vegetables Yup.. they’re the orange onesBeans and Peas Pretty self explanatoryStarchy vegetables Corn.. PotatoesOther.. Cucumbers.. Onions..Tomatoes

•Again.. FRESH IS BEST!!!

Meats & Beans

• Eat 2-3 servings of meat per day•Most meat and poultry choices should be lean or low-fat.• Fish, nuts, and seeds contain healthy oils, so choose these foods frequently instead of meat or poultry.•There are 6 sub groups:Meat PoultryFishEggs Nuts & SeedsBeans and Peas.. counts as a veggie or a meat

Dairy•Eat 2-3 serving per day•There are 4 subgroupsMilk Cheese

Yogurt

Milk based Desserts

•Choose fat-free or low-fat milk, yogurt, and cheese
