Yes! You are required to be in school all day senior year!

Wisconsin Statute 118.33 (1)(b) states, “. . . A school board may not grant a high school diploma to any student unless, during the high school grades, the pupil has been enrolled in a class or has participated in an activity approved by the school board during

each class period of each school day.”This means high school students must attend school all day, or a school board approved activity, during their 4 years of high school (grades 9-12), to be eligible for a high school diploma.

Advanced Placement Courses • 14 AP course options in school district • Optional AP Exams offered in May – $86 each• Class helps prepare for the exam – but can take

exam without the class• 5 is highest score; 1 is lowest – If you earn a 3, 4,

MATH – 3 credits to graduate

• See current math teacher and get initials for recommendation

• Taking Algebra I in Grade 8 counts for 1 elective credit, not math credit.

• Gr. 8 Geometry DOES count for HS math credit.

• Most colleges want to see 4 years math• It will be beneficial to have as much math in high

school to prepare for college.

Page 28: It’s Scheduling Season! Preble High School 2010 School Year

Alternative Ways to Earn Math Credits for HS Graduation

• Earn a .5 math credit and a .5 elective credit by taking:

1) Business and Marketing Math OR2) Computerized Accounting I OR3) Computerized Accounting II and III** Only 1 credit total can apply toward the 3rd required

math credit.• Another option for math credit would be to take up to

2 semesters of computer programming classes to earn up to 1 total high school math credit.

Page 29: It’s Scheduling Season! Preble High School 2010 School Year

NOTE: WHEN MAKING MATH SELECTIONS…

• For many colleges, Intro. to Statistics and AP Statistics is not considered a core math credit, but is considered elective math credit..

You are responsible to check with your college!

Page 30: It’s Scheduling Season! Preble High School 2010 School Year

SCIENCE – 2 credits• Physical Science and

Biology for graduation, BUT colleges want to see at least 3-4 years of lab science, so Chemistry or Conceptual Chemistry are highly recommended.

• If you took Biology in Gr. 9 and Chemistry in Gr. 10, you MUST take Physics before graduation (or take Physical Science).

Page 31: It’s Scheduling Season! Preble High School 2010 School Year

SCIENCE (con’t)• Conceptual Chemistry is a college-prep chemistry

course for students who are not strong in math and/or DO NOT plan to enter a science-related field. Some NWTC programs will not accept this.

• It is required that students have COMPLETED at least Algebra I, Int. Math 1 or Int. Math B before taking a chemistry or physics course.

• It is recommended that you complete Chemistry and Biology before taking Advanced Biology.
