Ericsson: Emergency Wallet

• Challenges:

– In crisis situations, urgent need for essential

provisions, e.g. food, water, clothing, shelter.

– Traditional ways for distributing aid often bureaucratic,

inefficient and inequitable

– Lacking financial infrastructure

• Solution:

– Mobile financial services solution designed for

deploying aid

Ericsson: Emergency Wallet Addresses …

• 4 main challenges:– Speed:

• Mobile money is significantly faster than distributing physical cash or paper vouchers.

– Transparency:• Donors and aid agencies need to know exactly how many

people received aid and how much value they received.

– Safety and security:• Distributing aid electronically is safer for both aid workers and

recipients than handling cash; theft of cash transfers fall by more than 50 percent

– Communication:• Needs change over time, impact assessment possible
