SOUTH BEND IS A COLLEGE TOWN South Bend, Indiana has been a home for college students since its origin. Indiana University began offering classes here in 1916, joining the University of Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s College as institutions of higher education based in this friendly city along the St. Joseph River. To accommodate the thousands of college students who come to South Bend each year, the city offers entertainment, dining, culture, recreation, sports, arts and everything in between. IU South Bend is located on the river near downtown and is a short walk, ride or drive to everything a student wants to do. Venues and activities near campus include the Four Winds Field–home of the South Bend Cubs minor league baseball team, whitewater rafting on the East Race Waterway, headline entertainers at the Morris Performing Arts Center, riverfront bars and restaurants, Farmer’s Market, Notre Dame football weekends, and easy trips to Chicago, Indianapolis and Lake Michigan.

There is a lot to cheer about at IU South Bend. Join your friends rooting the Titans on to victory in the Student Activities Center, a state-of-the-art athletics facility. The Titans play in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

SPORTS ARE A BIG PART OF IU SOUTH BEND We offer men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s baseball, women’s volleyball, and men’s golf.

IT STARTS WITH FACULTYIU South Bend is home to distinguished faculty who have a passion for teaching. From the sciences to the arts, from business to the humanities, from nursing to education, IU South Bend features award-winning professors who teach, do research, and perform at the highest levels. Students have access to these professors in the classrooms, laboratories and studios on campus.

Undergraduate research, student teaching, study abroad, and music and theatrical productions are just some of the opportunities students can share with faculty members in their chosen field. Many professors do cutting edge research and are widely published.

HONORS PROGRAM

The IU South Bend Honors Program offers highly motivated students the opportunity for an enriched college experience. From their first semester, Honors students are immersed in a supportive environment with exhilarating academic discussions and challenging coursework. Scholarships are available for this small, select, discussion-based program.

CENTERS OF EXCELLENCE

Students are invited to participate in three academic centers on campus. The Center for a Sustainable Future strives to help every person on campus understand the principles of sustainability and put them into practice. The Civil Rights Heritage Center invites students to record and preserve the local civil rights struggle, promote social justice, and improve race relations. The American Democracy Project is for students who want to be active, involved citizens in their communities.

STUDY ABROAD

IU South Bend offers faculty-led overseas study programs to many parts of the globe. Students can also participate in any of the 70 IU overseas study experiences.

ERNESTINE M. RACLIN SCHOOL OF THE ARTS Whether you are interested in the visual or performing arts, communications or new media, the Ernestine M. Raclin School of Arts will help you develop the artistic and technical skills you need to turn your creativity into a career. The Raclin School features award-winning faculty, renowned guest artists, the state-of-the-art Louise E. Addicott and Yatish J. Joshi Performance Hall, and the recent accreditation of the music department by the National Association of Schools of Music.

Faculty have performed and practiced their craft in theatres, music halls, media outlets and businesses across the country and around the world. In the Raclin School you will study your craft, whether it’s painting, the written word, digital wizardry, music, or the stage, and then share your skills with the community through performances, exhibitions, internships, working for the student newspaper, or writing for Aspire magazine. As part of your education you can travel across the country and around the world to experience the best the arts has to offer.

SCHOOL OF EDUCATION The School of Education has an excellent reputation and has produced thousands of graduates who are teaching in schools in Indiana and across the country. In fact, nearly every school in northern Indiana employs a teacher who graduated from IU South Bend. The School of Education is one of our best known and well-respected programs. Each year, the School of Education’s talented faculty prepare graduate and undergraduate students to be dedicated, caring, influential teachers and counselors who excel in teaching in diverse P-12 educational settings.

Faculty are dedicated to providing experiential learning opportunities that help future teachers connect theory and practice to the reality of teaching and counseling students in a diverse urban or suburban educational setting. As part of the program, you will get the opportunity to observe and participate in teaching activities at local schools giving you practical experience and opening doors to jobs in education. COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS AND SCIENCESThe College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) is the largest, most comprehensive college at IU South Bend. We offer a wide range of disciplines, including more than 80 degree programs in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences allowing you to gain a deeper understanding of the world around you. You’ll learn essential skills in writing, critical thinking, scientific investigation, languages and more – skills employers are seeking today. The sciences at CLAS have an outstanding record of placing students in graduate school, medical school and law school. VERA Z. DWYER COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES The Vera Z. Dwyer College of Health Sciences is recognized as a leader in preparing expert practitioners and providing continuing education to health workers in the community. Healthcare is one of the nation’s strongest growth industries. With an aging population and higher survival rates for severely ill and injured patients, the demand for care and therapy continues to rise. The Dwyer College is focused on producing graduates to meet the employment needs of hospitals, medical practices and health care providers. The new Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences offers students a wide variety of career options in the growing healthcare field. The degree program includes concentrations in Health Promotion, Health Systems Leadership, and Sport and Exercise Science, along with a minor in Nutrition. The nursing program includes a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). If you have a degree in another field, and want to switch to nursing, you can pursue an accelerated BSN. However, if you’re already a nurse with a BSN degree and wish to enter a leadership position in healthcare you can complete a Master of Science in Nursing. The radiography program will provide you with a comprehensive education, training you to be a future professional who is adept in the performance of any medical diagnostic procedure. The field includes careers in ultrasound, computerized tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) cardiovascular/interventional radiography, radiation therapy and nuclear medicine. For more than 40 years, the dental hygiene program has been providing high-quality education and clinical experiences to prepare students to be outstanding oral health professionals. As a student, you will also be introduced to public service as part of your education. Our program has an on-campus dental hygiene clinic which provides over 700 hours of hands-on patient treatment experience for every student. The Dwyer College is deeply involved with the local medical and dental communities and is committed to providing graduates who will improve the health of residents.

Our students form clubs and associations, organize intramural sports, and establish fraternities and sororities. Through Titan Productions they plan dances, movie nights, schedule entertainers and open mic nights, and make arrangements for almost anything else you may want to do. THE CENTER OF STUDENT LIFE

The Student Activities Center (SAC), a 100,000 square foot facility, offers a Student Health Center, students a state-of-the-art fitness center; three-lane running track; cardio and weight equipment; five court areas; three racquetball courts; group fitness room; full-service locker rooms; popular game area featuring billiards and table tennis; and a student lounge.

You’ll find a wide selection of food and drinks available in a relaxed environment to chat, study and share a meal with friends at our two dining areas—The University Grill and Courtside Café.

Housing and Residence Life (HRL) at River Crossing student housing is designed to help you transition into college life.

Our one, two, or four bedroom suites are fully furnished. Wi-Fi, Cable TV, dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator, utilities, private bedrooms, and 24-hour security, are all provided for you. HRL allows students from South Bend and beyond to live away from home in comfort and security. Join the nearly 400 students who reside in one of River Crossing’s seven houses. Our residence hall communities set the scene for lasting friendships and making college memories. As a freshman you’ll be housed in a common area, so you can develop friendships and share experiences with others who are also just beginning their college experience. HRL offers programs and activities that foster community and connections between students, the campus, and the community — dances, theme parties, study nights, community outreach and more. Throughout it all, studentshave easy access to professional staff and resident assistants who offer support at every turn.

THIS IS WHERE IT ALL HAPPENS

HRL engages you as a student and will help you grow into a community of friends. You’ll do better in classes because someone in your house is in the same class or in your field of study. THEMED HOUSES River Crossing offers three themed communities that provide unique living options for students who would like to live with others that share common interests.

In addition to year-round student activities that revolve around each theme, each community works together to plan a spring break trip that enhances their themed experience.

IU South Bend has the best tuition value for a bachelor’s degreein northern Indiana.

Go ahead and compare.

The approximate cost of tuition for a full-time student for one year is $7,000. Books and supplies average $1,200 a year. In addition, most IU South Bend students are eligible for some form of financial aid.

IT’S EASY TO APPLY

The fastest and most convenient way to apply is by completing an online application at apply.iusb.edu. A paper application is also available. Applicants will need to provide a high school transcript (or HSE Diploma score), test scores on SAT or ACT, and the application fee. Transfer students will need to provide all previous college transcripts.

A student is not admitted or denied admission into the university based solely on one piece of information. In reviewing your application, your entire high school academic record—including courses completed, grades earned, and SAT/ACT test results—is considered. APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

If you are a current Indiana high school student, you are expected to complete a Core 40 curriculum and are strongly encouraged to earn the Academic Honors Diploma. If you are not a graduate of an Indiana high school, you are expected to complete a comparable college-prep curriculum. Applicants who have been out of high school for three or more years are not required to submit SAT or ACT scores. Applicants will need to provide a high school transcript or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSE), test scores on SAT or ACT, and the application fee. HSE recipients will be considered for admission based on the HSE score, previous high school academic record, and other factors that indicate potential success at the college level. Those under the age of 21 must submit an SAT or ACT score in addition to the HSE Diploma. TRANSFER STUDENTS

A cumulative grade point average of 2.0 at the student’s previous college(s) is expected. Students with fewer than 12 transferrable credit hours are also required to meet beginning freshmen admission standards. For more information visit admissions.iusb.edu.
