Welcome to the very first
issue of The IV Quarterly.
Our magazine is primarily a
web based Newspaper &
through distribution to society,
is the first of its kind; it leaves
no carbon footprint.
Our magazine contains articles
that cover a variety of variables
in society and more intimately
our writers’ lives. Our mission
is to continually provide you
with new information.
We are comprised of writers,
artists, and enthusiasts from all
walks of life, around the globe,
and from a full spectrum of
cultures and religions. Through
this form of E-News
(Electronic News), we expect
to be able to reach tens of mil-
lions.
With help from a personal
friend of mine, educational
instructor (Teacher) and writ-
ing hobbyist Ms. Annie Me-
donis, our very first issues has
gone international as far as
Surat Thani (Which translates
into “The City of Good People”) ,
Thailand. It is the perfect in-
duction and it is our members’
drive that exceeds our goals &
possibilities.
As we strive for one-hundred
issues, we’d like to remind you
to follow your dreams, stay
true to your heart, and remem-
ber that all you see before you
started in the vivid imagination
of a little boy at his desk. In
remembrance of Ms. Queen Ester
Nixon, “Your life may be the
only bible someone reads.”

Generation C and
FLAX.
Imagine a world where eve-
rything communicated were
achieved through the means of
technology. It doesn’t seem
too abnormal does it? That’s
only because, for the last
60years or so, you’ve been
living in the era of an eco-
nomic revolution. Just as the
mighty steam engine and auto-
mobile, in the late 19th cen-
tury, revolutionized the way
and fashion in which people
were transported about the
globe, in this past half century
the era of computerization has
been continuously evolving
before us.
Generation C By Eugene Haynes IV
See GENERATION C, page 3...
Just recently has this revolution
been sent into hyper-drive with
the recent discoveries & crea-
tions of such prominent social
networking sites like Face book,
MySpace (Old School), and Twit-
ter. Our revolution has arrived.
This revolution is and forever
will be known as Generation C. Is
your business ready?
The IVQuarterly
I found myself in Bangkok on
April 21st at about 2:00AM after
a 28-hour trip from JFK. Despite
my fatigue, body odor and hun-
ger, I had nothing but feelings of
excitement and joy for my ad-
venture to begin.
It’s no mystery how I ended up
here. I went to college to be-
come a teacher and fell in love
with traveling along the way.
The combination of the two
seemed almost too good to be
true. Either way, I knew I had
to find out for myself. Packing
up my extra-large Kelty Back-
pack and moving to Thailand,
thus far, has been an eye-
opening experience.
I don’t consider myself the
stereotypical American; I don’t
eat fast food, I rarely get
stressed out, and I am generally
very happy– no offense, U.S.A.
A TASTE OF THAILAND By Annie Medonis
See THAILAND, page 5...
Generation C is a cohort of the popu-
lous who, when comprised, becomes
the first generation born unaware of a
reality that has not been defined by the
convenience of the World Wide Web.
Born after 1995 A.D., this culture will
grow up without the inability to access
the internet; a generation coming into
its own within the next 15years.
Now, what qualifies Generation Computer-
ized? Generation C primarily involves &
pertains to those in the developed
world; those within The United States
of America, Europe,
China, Russia, India, and
Brazil; who will or have
spent the majority of
their adolescent lives
thereafter the year 2000,
in a developed world and
newly defined and devel-
oping economy.
In the coming decade
everyone will have been
shaped along with Gen-
eration C & a rapidly
moving economy. As
most individuals do now,
within the proceeding
years to come, expect
everyone you know to
have a PDD (Personal Digital Device).
The majority of communication will be
accessed through each individual’s pri-
mary electronic companion. Society, as
it does now, will continue to be heavily
reliant upon their cell phones and iPads;
shaping the world, and the economic
environment we all live in.
For Instance, Borders Book Store which
we have all grown to love for their
books and friendly customer service is
one company who, in solely my opin-
ion only, hadn’t evaluated the benefit of
the new wave of kindle & iTunes
(electronically available) book markets;
as did the rest of their competitors.
Coincidently Borders Book Stores,
throughout the nation, began to liqui-
date inventory & stores across the na-
tion to save the company & a bit of
their own equity. Smart. Wasn’t it?
Is your business ready? According to a
team of research & developers in a re-
cent issue of Booz & Company’s, Strat-
egy & Business Generation C will live at
home longer than previous generations,
which means an increase in disposable
income. It’s certainly something to
think about.
Here’s what to expect, in a rapidly mov-
ing, new, and younger society; progress.
The discoveries and advancements
made within the cell structures through-
out the prominent social networks have
already come to fruition.
Exemplary from a recent advertisement
in a “Bing.com” commercial on, newly
formatted digital cable stated, by a
“Bing . c om” representat ive that ,
“Opinions from friends will soon be
available.” Yes, “Bing.com” has incorpo-
rated the trusted opinions of your asso-
ciates to “help you make faster, more
informed decisions.” As said by the
“Bing.com Team” May 15, 2011 in a
recent article on “Bing.com” titled
“Facebooks Friends Now Fueling Faster
Decisions on Bing.”
Progress- Using such “Connect” but-
tons and society connected based re-
views to assist consumers in awareness
for product credibility, already exists. A
promising accomplishment such as this
could only lead one to believe that the
world created by this future generation
will be much more digi-
tally developed. Just as
television educates people
of the world on a broader
scale so will the digital
revolution of society.
With these newer possi-
bilities I’m inclined to
believe that: schools,
workers, companies, and
businesses; will all be on
somewhat of an equal
platform, using a more
equal opportunity and
highly capable World Wide
Web.
It would be a beautiful
sight to allow imagination
to see countries that hadn’t the necessi-
ties of proper books due to the consid-
erable costs of printing, now, able to
share with their students the wonderful
words and thoughts of Mr. Ernest He-
mingway or Sir Langston Hughes
through the simplicities of an iTunes
account and an Apple iPad or Amazon
Kindle. My only request (wish) is that
some consideration be taken for the
preservation of the movie theatres when
film distribution is disbursed among the
industry’s “Power Players” and “Direct-
2-You Film/ Television” become avail-
able.

Don’t we all want to be a
“Super Star”? At some point in
our lives, sure we do. But, each
and every one of us has a dif-
ferent definition of “Super
Stardom.” What is it you be-
lieve in? Sometimes that’s a
good question to ask yourself,
it’s also good to answer that
question. I believe in a lot of
things, but I have learned that
one must first believe in them-
selves before believing in an-
other. When you do just that,
you open up a magical world
where all your dreams are a
possibility; where nothing can
stop you from building on that
dream and pursing it. You can
bet that when you begin the
ride of your life, you will look
back and regret nothing. For
without your past, you would
not have a future.
As children we were taught to
dream big, be what you want,
do what you want, and then,
just then– Life! Life hits you
and you begin to take fewer
risks. You climb into a com-
fort zone and live. Do you
regret not risking it all? I sup-
pose we all feel regret at some
point in time, but that’s life.
Being a “Super Star” isn’t all
about the glamour and glitz
we see on television, it’s about
being true to the ones that
matter. It’s about being true
to who you are and being
true to your faith. Someday
just stop and take inventory
on your life, check it out
from the outside looking in,
then go for it. I did, I went
all in and I couldn’t be hap-
pier. I do what I love to do
in a place like no other,
beautiful Southern Califor-
nia, home of the sun and
fun. I give credit to my artis-
tic ability to be able to say
that. Without my talents, I’m
not sure where I’d be. But, I
know where I am and I’m
home.

However, I realize I’m still
ignorant to so many things,
especially being a foreigner in a
country that I’ve never even
visited before. While a certain
level of ignorance will always
be present, traveling is the
most beneficial thing a person
can do in order to grow and
learn. If we continue to remain
in our comfort zones and
avoid challenges, life becomes
stagnant. Some people prefer
that predictable lifestyle. I, for
one, couldn’t think of anything
worse.
The food has been the easiest
thing to get used to here. I
have had the pleasure of enjoy-
ing a variety of curries, spicy
soups and exotic fruits over the
past few weeks. I used to say,
“I don’t really eat meat,” but
that has quickly turned into “I
guess I’ll try something new.”
While I do miss some simple
things like boxed cereal, it’s
amazing how quickly you for-
get about what was so recently
available to you.
The people here, foreigners
included, have made this tran-
sition extremely easy. Everyone
is so eager to assist with any
issues and/ or questions. You
can’t walk a few steps outside
without receiving a smile . The
first trip that my fellow teach-
ers and I took to Khanom
Beach ended with an Ocean-
side campfire and dinner with a
local family. There wasn’t
much speaking but our laughs
and smiles proved to be a suffi-
cient source of communication.
One of the first, and possibly
most important, things I recog-
nized as different here was the
ability for the natives to be so
genuinely happy, despite having
so much less than the United
States. I’m finding “less is more”
to be my mantra and it is provid-
ing me with an incredible sense
of freedom. Along with consum-
ing less comes the realization
that we don’t actually need most
of the possessions that we own.
My “new normal” is slowly but
surely developing. I’m not quite
as sensitive to the heat as I ini-
tially was. I enjoy walking every-

where. I enjoy learning more
and more of the language each
day. As for actually speaking it
effectively, I’m confident that
will come with time. In terms
of work, I have been hired as a
full-time Kindergarten teacher
at a bilingual school. Transla-
tion: I am teaching Kindergar-
ten in English to about 20 stu-
dents from 7:30AM-12:00PM
Monday through Friday. After
they go to lunch, they receive
Kindergarten in Thai and I
spend my afternoon planning
with the other English teach-
ers. While the whole vacation
state of mind has been lovely, I
look forward to meeting my
students and to begin the real
adventure– teaching!

Everything we’ve done over
the last 60years, this revolution,
is now upon us and will soon
be complete.
Expect to be always able to be
able. A “Booz & Company’s”
Strategy and Business article
stated that 91% of all mobile
users keep their phones within
arm’s reach. What does this

want it to be. Writing is a fine
art which I have always found
interesting and now I get my
chance to share with you my
first article in print. While I
write this, I sit here on my

The internet is a fascinating
and resourceful place. Over the
past decade I’ve compiled a list
of websites that I frequent.
Today I have the opportunity
to share three websites from
that list with you.
First is www.google.com . Google
is a premier website. To a few
of my relatives Google is the
internet. You see Google is a
search engine. Anything typed
into Google will surely bring
(most of the time): business
cards, t-shirts, and postcards,
among many other advertising
products; a very important tool
for every individual. Whether
you’re in the office all day or
working in the restaurant, this
website is a great tool to assist
customers with customary tip
amounts or simply a product
used to invite a potential repeat
customer.
