IVC Foundation Financial Report (January - December 2010) raise the remaining $50,000. As someone who cares about Imperial Valley and specifically IVC, we hope you will help us meet our Osher Matching Scholarship Challenge and donate towards IVC’s goal. For a final push to reach this goal, we have scheduled an Osher Matching Scholarship Challenge, “Celebration and Gala” on Friday, June 10 th here on campus at Imperial Valley Col- lege. We hope you can join us for this momen- tous occasion and help us create the largest ever scholarship endowment for IVC. Imagine an opportunity to double your investment while supporting an Imperial Valley institution that is changing lives and making educational dreams come true. Imperial Valley College has been given a unique and timely opportunity to not only impact the future with a perma- nent scholarship endowment, but have it matched dollar-for- dollar as well. From now till the end of this fiscal year (June 30 th , 2011) every dollar (up to $300K) that the IVC Foundation is able to raise for scholarships will be matched by the Osher Founda- tion and invested in a perma- nently restricted endowment fund to be used for IVC student scholarships in perpetuity. We are getting close! We have about $250,000 set aside but we need your help to IVC Foundation Board... Campus - I’m honored to be one of the recipients of the Osher Scholarship. God knows that throughout my life, I’ve learned the true meaning of the word “struggle”. The U.S has afforded me the opportunity to overcome many financial and academic challenges. It is because of these experiences that I too believe that, ‘Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world’ (Nelson Mandela). When my family immigrated to the United States in 2001, I really struggled with learning English. So much so that I dropped out of school and joined my father picking lettuce - that lasted one day. With a new motivation I applied myself and was named Migrant Student of year for Imperial County in 2005 and represented our area at the Annual State Migrant Conference in Los Angeles. I also graduated in the top 20 of my high school class before coming to Imperial Valley College. While at IVC I’ve worked hard to pay for school. Currently, I’m self-employed as a math tutor, gardener and computer technician. Receiving the Osher Scholarship helped me Focus more on my school Work as I prepare to Graduate and transfer To a university in the Fall. I want to become a Great and dedicated Math teacher. Thanks again for Your generous support!

Campus - This year the Foundation funded IVC’s new Student Ambassador program. Imperial Valley College students applied for the program in the Fall and an excellent group of students were chosen for this 12 month program. Typical duties of the Ambassadors include hosting events on campus and serving as tour guides for K-12 educational tours of campus. The Ambassadors have also spent time off campus speaking at local service groups and with community leaders about the programs the college offers and ways to increase educational attainment.
