March Madness and Spring- We are in the month of March and heading into spring this coming

week as we move up our clocks one hour. This month brings new beginnings, especially as we have

now entered the 3rd and final trimester of the school year. It is a time for our students to re-focus on

their learning and to do their very best to get back to our normal routines and expectations. We know

from educational research that schools who improve academic performance for students have

5 specific characteristics:

● A strong educational leader who believes in success and expects the best -no failure● There is a strong focus on rigorous standards and expectations-improving results● Teamwork happens everyday with students, staff, and parents doing their part● Teachers are deeply committed to helping ALL students succeed and achieve their highest

potential● Multiple changes are made along the way to increase instruction and improve student’s lives

We believe that we have these things in place at Tynes. It has been a challenging year, however we

believe in our students and their ability to overcome anything. This final trimester will be one of

increased learning and opportunities to improve. Let’s go Tynes Tigers...we believe in YOU!

Building Developmental Assets- Parents often ask what they can do to help their child improve. A

program called 40 Developmental Assets helps us learn how YOU can make a difference and impact

children in a positive way. These building blocks help children grow and learn so they have a

wonderful foundation as they proceed through life. Here are some of the positive things you can do:

● Support them with your love, care, and attention.● Empower then with opportunities to make a difference in the family and community.

● Establish clear boundaries and have high expectations.● Help them find activities that make constructive use of their time (music, drama, sports,

hobbies, involvement in a religious community).● Nurture in them a commitment to learning (challenge them to explore and learn new things).● Instill positive values to guide them (model positive values, talk about them, and guide them).● Help them develop life skills and social competencies (expose them to new people and things,

model and teach skills, challenge your children to use their skills).● Nurture, celebrate, and affirm their positive identity (love and support who your child is, live a

life of purpose, meaning, and optimism so your child can find purpose and meaning).

Helping your child with these 8 positive things will help them grow with ease and struggle less. We

are here to help get your child on the right path for learning!
