good deed on that day. My good deedwas to visit the nursing home.

Our next District Meeting is Feb 12-13 in London. The London Laurel Clubis sponsoring the meeting. This is the3rd time in a row they have sponsoredthe District Meeting. THANK YOUVERY MUCH!

There is a lot going on at this meet-ing so be sure to check your scheduleand plan to attend.

The greatest problem we have in theDistrict is membership. During first thesix weeks of our Optimist year we wereamong the leaders in all of O.I. in mem-bership, but we dropped members dur-ing December. From time to time itbecomes necessary to drop members butI urge clubs to try to replace droppedmembers. During the first quarterDistrict meeting I passed out member-ship applications cards. Please carry onewith you; you never know when you

might meet a potential member. I would like for each club to have a

NOW meeting. NOWstands for NewOptimist Welcomed. I will gladly attendany NOWmeeting your club is having.Just let me know when and I will bethere.

The second biggest problem is get-ting members involved. This is a prob-lem at all levels: local, District andInternational.

We need to develop new leaders. Apart of all leader's job is to mentorsomeone to take your place. During ourbusiness session at our next DistrictMeeting we will select newLt.Governor-elects. If you have been apresident of your club please considertaking this leadership position.

Speaking from experience this isone of the best jobs in O.I. Please letGov-elect Geno know if you are inter-ested in this position. It is important thatwe know who our Lt.Gov-elects areearly because the O.I. Convention is inQuebec.

There is a lot going on in Our

District. We need to brag on ourselvesand our clubs. That why I created theKentucky-West Virginia Braggers Club.Let the world know just how good weare.

I was able to take part in two realgood programs in November. One wasthe Optimist Youth Vote sponsored bythe Barstown Club, and the other was aprogram on Patriotism sponsored by TheJackson County Optimist Club. Both ofthese programs involved our youth, butalso promoted two other Optimist pur-poses: to promote good government, andto promote promote patriotism.

Upcoming events include the Tri-Start Contest Feb 13 at London Laurel,Essay and Oratorical Contest April 30(Huntington WV), Optimist OratoricalWorld Contest June 23-24 (St Louis),98th Optimist International ConventionJune 30-July 2 (Quebec),Youth (JOOI)Convention July3-5 (Quebec) andOptimist International Golf TournamentJuly 20-Aug. 4 (Palm Beach Fl).

Dear Fellow Optimist,

The IRA rollover is now permanent. If you are 70 1/2 or older, the IRA

rollover is a great way for you to makean IRA rollover gift to support the caus-es you care about. IRA rollover gifts canmake a huge difference. These gifts willhelp sustain us in our important work.

There are a few details that wewanted to share with you about the billand the IRA rollover:

The IRA rollover allows donors 70½or older to transfer up to $100,000directly from their IRA to charity eachyear.

An IRA rollover gift is a tax-exemptdistribution. Qualifying individuals can

make charitable gifts using pre-tax IRAassets rather than taking a distribution, paying income taxes and using after-taxassets to make a charitable gift.

An IRA rollover gift can be used tomeet all or part of an IRA required mini-mum distribution.

A permanent IRA rollover will givequalifying individuals certainty, allowingthem to better manage their income, taxes and charitable giving.

The bill is retroactive to December31, 2014. If you made a gift directly fromyour IRA to us at any point during 2015,your gift will qualify as a rollover gift.

If you are considering making anIRA rollover gift, please give us a call.We would be happy to talk to you more

about this wonderful gift opportunity.Yours in Optimism, Steve Skodak, CFREExecutive Director - O.I. Foundation

(If you have made a planned gift of any typeor size to our organization, then you areautomatically eligible for membership in ourFriends of Tomorrow. Your legacy is impor-tant. If you’ve included Optimist Internationalin your will, trust or other planned gift, pleaselet us know. We want to honor you with mem-bership in our Friends of Tomorrow society, and more importantly, we want to make sureyou’re thanked today and your legacy is hon-ored tomorrow.)

We began the Club year with ourInstallation Dinner held at the PullmanPlaza Hotel. We invited the girls fromthe Golden Girl Group Twenty girlscame and enjoyed the table conversa-tions, an excellent motivational speechby our own Bill Deel, a wonderful buf-fet meal and even our installation cere-mony conducted by Past President DickDavis.

Our major fund raising project, theCorn Dog Concession Stand at the WestVirginia Pumpkin Festival, was duringthe first week of October and, in spite ofthe poor weather and lower attendance

than usual, still was successful due toour hard working Optimists.

In December we sent out the entryforms for the Oratorical and Essay con-tests and anticipate a larger number ofentries than normal.

We worked a shift selling Christmastrees for Big Brother-Big Sister andenjoyed an evening of fellowship andsome profits for them.

the gifts may even show up again nextyear)

Sadly, we sent our long time mem-bers, Rick and Debbie Abel, of to theirnew home in Morgantown. We will cer-tainly miss their friendship and hardwork but wish them the best in theirretirement on the farm.
