President’s Report
During our recent travels to Merimbula and back, Gayl and I were again amazed by our diverse
and spectacular country that so invites a driving holiday.
We travelled through incredibly beautiful rural scenery. We privately named our trip ‘Planes,
Trains and Automobiles’. Its main purpose was to attend the Peugeot Pageant at Merimbula, to
which we added the Temora Aviation Museum and the Temora Rural Museum at Temora, the
Junee Roundhouse Railway Museum at Junee and McFeeters Car Museum in Forbes.
It was not just at these comprehensive museums, but almost every place we went that we found
an interest in our motoring or engineering heritage. We saw great cars and great machines from
stationary engines through to industrial scale diesel and steam engines, all in working order. There
were cars, bikes, an amazing collection of ambulances and fire trucks. There was farm, domestic
and factory machinery proudly displayed and documented describing its importance to each town
or industry. Added to this was a renewed interest in the historical architecture of many towns
where guided walks showed not only the municipal buildings but where the garages, blacksmiths,
stables, mills, power houses and workplaces operated, also featuring their importance in the
country’s development.
Most of these places rely on volunteer labour and are certainly good places to meet interesting
people. Those volunteers we met had a level of enthusiasm for their varied interests, pride in
their restorations and willingness to share their knowledge which made our visits especially
memorable.
Like us, they were enjoying pursuing their passions. Let’s keep on enjoying ours. We’re in good
company.
David Besson

The club decided in 2015 to change the club shirt from the grey polo shirts to a button up chambray shirt
(either short or long sleeve). If any member wishes to purchase a shirt for use on club outings the
procedure is as below:
Purchase the shirt from George Gooleys, Lismore, they have all the necessary sizes and can provide
the best fit.
Take the shirt to either Daleys ( 21 Woodlark St ) or MR Promotional Products (145 Keen St) for
embroidering of the logo. You have the choice of any/all of the following - club logo; club name in
letters; your name. Bring your receipt for the embroidery to the Treasurer and the club will refund $5.00
towards the cost.
Several members have expressed a desire to purchase the old club polo shirts. I have contacted the
lady who used to make the shirts for the club and she is willing to make more. I spoke to the Club
executive at the last meeting and they were agreeable for members to purchase either the old polo
shirts or the new chambray shirts.
Therefore if anyone wishes to purchase the polo shirt please contact me on 02 6683 2740 or see me at
one of our meetings/outings.

A group of our club members attended Autorama held by the Gold Coast Antique Auto Club. This is an
event that some of us have participated in for many years and as usual great cars were on display over
the weekend. Two really well organised runs – Saturdays including lunch at the Condong Bowling Club,
which was a credit to them as the flood had been half way up the walls the week before.
Saturday night was dinner (& dancing). The theme this year was ‘rock & roll’. We dressed in our theme
outfits & everyone looked GREAT!!!!!! & might I say our Club looked the ‘best’ on the night.
Back to the cars – Rod Johnston won his class for his Jaguar XJS + Ron & Julie Nowlan nearly won the
trophy for their Mini Copper S. Ron was presented with the trophy then much to our disappointment it
was taken from him. The reason being that it was for the wrong class (what a mess up), but he took it in
his stride and said ‘Oh well I held the trophy for ONE minute”. Marj & George won the raffle which is a 2
night stay @ The Golden Riviera Resort.
We lined our cars up proudly with all the others – presenting 2 Jaguars, Renault Fuego & a Triumph
Spitfire, we also had another Jaguar & Mazda MX5 who were not eligible for judging as they were not
over 30 years old. However they joined all the weekend events.
Probably the highlight of the weekend was an elderly lady with her Saxon who was dressed in period
costume (all weekend), she participated in all events & also does all the mechanical work on her car,
needless to say she won all the trophies they could give her.
A great weekend, lots of cars, food, fun and laughter. We will probably be back next year.

CAR DISPLAY AT ALSONVILLE ANTIQUE FAIR 28th
MAY 2017 A good rollup of 13 cars and 18 club members attended the Alstonville Antique Fair. Despite overcast
conditions the rain held off and the public were able to enjoy our vehicles.
There was hot competition from members to purchase the most items on offer and it seems President
David & Gayl came out the winners with an array of ‘gems’. A very enjoyable fun day was had by all.

BANGALOW BILLY CART DERBY 21
st MAY 2017
A beautiful sunny day greeted an enthusiastic crowd at Bangalow for the annual Billy Cart Derby. We had
14 cars with 21 members in attendance as the crowd enjoyed the day and watched the spills and thrills of
the billy cart entrants.
There was great variation in cars of different makes, beautifully presented for the public who enjoyed
admiring them and talking to the owners throughout the day.

CASINO BEEF WEEK SHOW & SHINE 27/05/17
The organisers of this event were delighted with the rollup of 167 cars & bikes etc that attended Saturday’s Show & Shine. This was the largest attendance for some years and the quality and variety of vehicles on display was a credit to all those car lovers who participated.
Our club had 26 members and 19 cars in attendance. Everyone was happy with the day and Ron & Julie Nowlan were rewarded for their beautifully presented Mini by winning the “Best Sports Car” trophy. Congratulations Ron & Julie.
