Special feature Amby Burfoot — winner of the 1968 Boston Marathon and retired editor of Runner’s World — will be speaking in Brookings three times this weekend as well as running in the Jack 15. His speaking schedule: • 1-1:45 p.m. Friday — “First Ladies of Running,” a summary of his 2016 book, Archives Reading Room, Briggs Library, SDSU campus. • 7 p.m. Friday — “Run Forever,” based on his current book, Champions Room, Dykhouse Student-Athlete Center, SDSU. • 3-3:45 p.m. Saturday — “Run Forever,” Brookings Public Library. Amenities • Aid stations at miles 3, 6, 9, 12 and 14.5 with water and Gatorade. The Mile 9 aid station will have orange slices. The Mile 12 aid station, dubbed the Swayzee Stop, also will have chocolate chip cookies in honor of Orris Swayze, a member of the 1963 cross country team that ran the first Jack 15 on Dec. 7, 1963. Hunger got the best of him. Near Mile 12, he stopped at a farmhouse, asked for food and received chocolate chip cookies. • Porta-potties at starting area, mile 7.6 and finish line area as well as at the school during race-day registration. • Bag drop at the school and near the start line. Taken to refreshments area at finish. • Showers available at the SDSU Wellness Center, northeast of finish line. Runners must furnish own towels. Parking available in the north lot. All roads on the course remain open to traffic. • Buses from Brookings Area Transit Authority will leave from the Campanile (finish line) to the starting line at 7 and 7:45 a.m. • No transportation provided between relay exchange points. For the kids • The SDSU Wellness Center directs free kids’ runs near the Campanile (finish line) at 10:45 a.m. for grades kindergarten through sixth-grade. Routes are one-tenth of a mile for the youngest runners and quarter- and half-mile for older children. T-shirts will be given to all who enter. Results and prizes: • Winners will be announced at the 11 a.m. awards assembly. • Full results next week at PrairieStriders.net & allsportcentral.com. • Look for a list of door-prize winners on a poster board at a finish line tent.
