Landscape Horticulture Field Day Scheduled for June 25 The LSU AgCenter’s Hammond Research Station will hold its annual Landscape Horticulture Field Day for Green Industry Professionals on Thursday June 25. The field day will begin with registration at 2:30 pm. Walking tours of landscape research projects and demonstration plots is scheduled from 3:00-5:00 pm with snacks and sandwiches served afterwards. Topics to be addressed at the field day include an overview of ornamental plant variety evaluations. Included will be Knock Out rose varieties; new plants from Proven Winners, Ball FloraPlant, Ball Seed, PanAmerican Seed, Sakata Seed, Syngenta and other companies; and a review of some new woody ornamental plants. These are mostly planted in the new “sun garden” evaluation area at the station. New roses from Conard-Pyle and Weeks will also be available for viewing. Care and maintenance studies available for viewing will include liriope trials, plant growth regulator studies on woody ornamental shrubs and mulch demonstration plantings. Environmental issues will also be addressed. Visitors can also tour the urban forestry efforts at the station. During registration, participants can take a landscape weed identification quiz. Also, a plant disease clinic will be on-site for problem diagnosis. LSU AgCenter Ornamental Horticulture E-Mail Update May 25, 2009

IR-4 Ornamental Horticulture Program Survey (2008-2009)

The IR-4 Project’s Ornamental Horticulture Program helps provide safe and effective pest management solutions for greenhouse, nursery, landscape, Christmas tree and forestry producers. We work with growers, researchers, registrants and regulatory agencies to facilitate new product registrations. We also work to place new diseases, insects and weeds as well as new crops on already-registered ornamental horticulture product labels. Every other year, we prioritize the next two-year research plan at our Ornamental Horticulture Workshop. We invite you to help us focus our research priorities by answering a few questions about the diseases, insects and weeds that affect your business.http://www.ir4.rutgers.edu/Ornamental/Survey/index.cfm
