NOTES FROM FATHER CHUCK

Saint Peter’s Catholic Church 5th Sunday of Easter April 29, 2018

FIRST COMMUNION Today we celebrate the first communion for 15 of our children. This is one of the holiest and grace filled masses. I ask that you remember our children in your prayers today. It is truly a blessed time for them and their families. Each year I encourage you to find your first communion picture and to remem-ber what a blessed day your first communion day was for you and for all the graces that the Eucharist gives you each time you receive communion.

MOTHER’S DAY BRUNCH This is just a reminder that next Sunday, May 6, the Knights of Columbus will be serving the Mother’s Day brunch from 8:00 a.m. to noon. This brunch is a week early so that families can have their Mother’s Day celebrations. Please come, enjoy the wonderful breakfast and honor all of our mothers for the gift of life that they have given to all of us.

ADULT PARTY I wish to thank the parish life committee for the wonderful party we had on Saturday, April 14. The food was outstanding. I don’t ever remember play-ing bingo and having so much fun. The weather did affect the crowd but those who attended had the time of their life. These parties are always a great way to build up our parish family.

CRAZY WEATHER

I think everyone would agree with me that this spring has been one of the most unpredictable. Last Sunday the snow and cold effected our atten-dance at masses. Please remember to keep cur-rent on your tithing as we need everyone's help for us to meet our financial obligations.

ANSWERS TO BIBLE QUESTIONS 1. The two Old Testament characters that were with Jesus at the transfiguration were Moses, who was the father of the Law and Elijah, who was the father of the prophets. 2. Jesus showed the Judas would be the one who would betray him by dipping the bread with him. 3. The place of the crucifixion was called Golgotha. 4. Jesus appeared to his disciples forty days after the resurrection. This was followed by Pentecost on the 50th day after the resurrection.

OKTOBERFEST LEADERS We are in need of a couple or a team of two people to become part of the leadership team for Oktober-fest. This is a wonderful opportunity to work with a wonderful team of people and also it is a great op-portunity to know more members of our parish fam-ily. If you are interested please contact me at the office.

THREE MINUTE PRAYER I spoke about this prayer process on Sunday and I wish to share this process with you. Begin this proc-ess by making the sign of the cross and the praying the glory be. 1. In the first minute ask the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit to forgive you for any failing that you have experienced in the past day. 2. In the second minute pray about all the bless-ings that you have received in the day and thank the Father, Son and Holy Spirit for these blessings. 3. In the third minute pray about you greatest chal-lenges for the next day and ask the Holy Spirit to help you with those challenges. This process is a wonderful way to bring the Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit more deeply into your life.

CHURCH TOUR I spoke about this on Sunday but it is worth repeat-ing. Our church is a marvelous teacher about our faith. I was so impressed with questions that the children shared during the Wednesday evening tour of the church. If you do not have a copy of the book, “Sacred Symbols of St. Peter’s Church” we do have copies in the office. If you would like a copy please stop by and we will gladly give one to you. Thank you to all of the parents who attended the church tour.

DIOCESAN APPEAL We are coming to end of our Diocesan Appeal cam-paign. We have had 370 people make a pledge to the appeal which is an outstanding number. I wish to thank you for your generosity to the appeal. We were very blest this year to receive a refund of over $12,000. Many priests ask me how we reach our goal so quickly and I always tell them this is a gen-erous parish!!!!!!!!

☺CHRISTIAN HUMOR☺ Just before Easter, I remarked to my husband that with the children grown and away from home, this was the first year that we hadn’t dyed eggs and had an Easter-egg hunt. “That’s all right, honey,” he said. “We can just hide each other’s vitamin pills.” ***************************************** A professor was at a party and became indignant when asked if college professors were absent-minded. "Professors haven't got bad memory," he declared. "They're not absent-minded. Don't you think I know where I am right now, and don't you think tomorrow I'll know where I was today? Would somebody like to ask me an-other question?" "Yes," said another guest. "Is it true that professors are absent-minded and have bad memory?" "Good!" said the professor. "I knew sooner or later some-body would ask me that question."
