Allen East I
In celebration of fire safety month Allen East 1 enjoyed a visit to the Harrod Fire Department. The fire &
rescue squad graciously shared information about how to stay safe in case of a fire. The children were able
to discover, touch, & ask all about the firetrucks, ambulance & all the various equipment. We were fortunate
to have two of our fantastic parents join us on our trip. It was a great opportunity for the children to get a
real hands-on experience of what our heroes do on a daily basis.
In the classroom, Allen East 1 has been focusing on how special & unique our friends in class are. We
have been learning many positive character traits and how to make green choices at school! The class
has definitely proven that they have a BRIGHT future ahead of them—so BRIGHT they need shades!
Watch out this is a class full of rock stars!
Teacher— Kristin Jordan Co-Teacher— Chasity Brewer
Allen East 2 classroom has been very busy this year with hands-on learning. They had a field trip to the fire department and had several parents attend.
The children have been practicing fire safety and doing fire drills. They have extended their
knowledge by practicing at home by making a
safety plan to get out and stay out.

The kiddos had a very successful Pumpkin Day in the classroom, where many family members attended. They explored the inside and outside of the
pumpkin, as well as explored our 5 senses with pumpkin tasting, which
included tasting pumpkin items.
Starting this month in November, we will be doing a food study, where the children will get to create, explore, and learn all about food. We are excited to expand the children's
knowledge about this topic.

ENROLL YOUR CHILD TODAY!
Excellent Attendance
Our goal is to prepare your child for their next stepping stone of education whether it is Head Start or Kindergarten. Regular Attendance is an important part of your child’s
educational, social, and emotional development. When children are absent from school they are missing out on a lot of educational and social opportunities. We would like to
thank those parents who assure their child is attending school every day. In the month of October we had 183 children with Perfect Attendance. Way to Go Parents!!!!

Take a walk with a young girl greeting all the signs of the
coming season. In a series of conversations with every
flower and creature and gust of wind, she says goodbye
to summer and welcomes autumn.
For many cultures around the world, the fall equinox has been a time to celebrate the harvest and begin collecting and storing crops. Reading this fall book about the autumnal equinox with your children can help inspire a new understanding of autumn and the harvest season.

Keep Kids Safer In Crashes TIPS TO KEEP YOUR CHILD SAFER WHILE DRIVING
Use the correct car seat for your child's age and size
Infants and toddlers should ride in a rear-facing car safety seat as long as possible, until they reach the highest weight or eight allowed by their seat. Most convertible seats have limits that allow children to ride rear-facing for 2 years or more
Once facing forward, children should use a forward-facing car safety seat with a harness for as long as possible
When children exceed the limits, they should use a belt-positioning booster seat until the vehicle’s lap and shoulder belt fits properly. This is often reached at 4 feet 9 inches in height and are 8-12 years old
All children younger than 13 years of age should sit in rear of vehicle
Choose a safe location in your vehicle
Never put an infant in a rear-facing seat in front of an active air bag
Plan ahead. Always be sure that there is a eat belt for every child who rides in your car
If a child must ride in the front seat, move the vehicle seat as far back as it can go, away from the air bag. Be sure that the child riding in the front is in the correct restraint for her age and size
The safest place for children 12 and younger is the back seat
Seat belts and tether straps are important
Some rear center seats in cars have only a lap belt. You can use a lap belt alone to install a child safety seat, but never use it for a booster. Correct use of a booster seat requires a lap-and-shoulder seat belt
If your vehicle has LATCH, you can use it to install a car seat. LATCH attachment points are usually in rear outboard seating positions Check your vehicle owner’s manual for more information
Always attach the top tether strap when your child is riding a forward-facing car seat
Energy savings to prepare for weather
Seal The Leaks—closed doors and windows can still allow cold air to en-ter the home. Prepare your home for cold weather by applying weather stripping and/or caulk around leaky doors and windows
Insulate the Attic—Inspect your attic to ensure there is ade-quate insulation , and is level with or below the floor joists
Take Care of Your Furnace—have your furnace inspected once a year by a licensed professional . Also make sure to replace furnace filters once a month to keep your furnace running efficiently
Let The Sun Help—keep shades and curtains open during the day—particularly on the south side of your home
Embrace Lower Temperatures—for each degree you lower your thermostat, you reduce your energy bill by 2%
Watch Your Water Usage—showers typically account for up to 2/3 of your water heating costs. By cutting shower time in 1/2, you can re-duce your water heating costs by 33%
Don’t Forget Your Fireplace—when its in use, your fireplace is a source of heat. When it’s not, the chimney is a tunnel for cold air
