Basic Schedule
Eleven days, of which the first and last will be devoted to traveling.
Day 2 and 3: Relaxing at the beach and hiking.
One hour drumming session every night followed by a training session for lessons the next day.
Drums, recorder, and voice…Oh my.
We taught in rural primary schools, 3 year olds through 6th grade.
Music Education Expectations
Learn and memorize: several vocal pieces, including the national anthem, several drumming rhythms and variations, and simple recorder pieces.
We were also expected to study and understand the culture and history of Jamaica before arriving.
Placed in teams with a supervisor at each school.
Donations
Part of the JAFSP mission is to purchase and donate supplies to the schools we taught at.

Kumina Drummers
• Kumina drummers came to our guest house and performed for us.
• They bless the drums with rum before they play.
• Instruments: Drums, sticks (katta tick), maracas, coconut graters and forks.
