This beautiful classic Jaguar XK120 was manufactured by Jaguar between 1948 and 1954.

Jaguar’s first post-war sports car, it succeeded the Swallow Side

Car Company’s (to be re born as Jaguar) SS 100, The SS 100

was a stunning two-seater which boasted the looks that are still

revered among classic car lovers today ceased production

in 1940.

World War II was not easy on the automotive industry and the famed British manufacturer had to wait

8 years before releasing a successor. The new sports car had a new

name, the Jaguar XK120.

The 120 roadster was conceived and designed in a matter of months,

primarily to act as a showcase for the marque’s new XK engine, it

was shown at the 1948 Earls Court Motor show in the dark days of

rationing, it caused such a sensation that William Lyons was forced to

put it into production right away.

The XK120 was launched in roadster form at the 1948 London Motor Show as a test bed and show car

for the new Jaguar XK engine. It caused a sensation, which

persuaded William Lyons to put it into production. The “”120””

in its name referred to its 120 mph top speed which made the

XK120 the world’s fastest standard production car at the time

of its launch.

It was available in three versions; first as the roadster, then also as a drop head coupé from 1953 and as

a closed, or “”fixed-head”” coupé from 1951. The iconic shape of

the Jaguar XK120 roadster sustains the cars constant

appreciation by classic car enthusiasts. Sadly for many,

Jaguar XK’s remain the car of dreams. Those of a certain age

may fondly remember coveting these cars when they spotted a

glimpse of them in private garages or on neighbours’ driveways.

Jaguar XK120’s, and particularly AEN 482 are excellent, usable examples of much coveted 1950’s motor

cars. For the most part they are extremely robust, wonderfully

reliable, infinitely eye-catching, and can turn their hand to almost

anything. If you seek a Sunday-driver to go to Goodwood then

AEN 482 is great; conversely, if you are looking for a capable

touring or classic rallying car then this XK is well rounded for

these tasks too...

In 1952 Stirling Moss and three other drivers famously drove a virtually standard XK120 around the

banked track at Montlhery for seven days and nights on end,

clocking up an average speed of 100.31mph before driving the

car back to London with no problems whatsoever. The XK120

was extremely successful as a racing car. In 1949 three XK120s

entered the One-Hour Production Car Race in England. One of

them had a flat tire and did not finish the race, but the other

two managed to snatch the first two places.

Some of the other wins include the Palm Beach Shores race, Pebble Beach Cup, Tourist Trophy (snatching

the top three places), Alpine Rally (twice), Coupe des Alpes,

Tulip Rally (the top two places), Mount Druitt 24 Hours Road

Race and even the NASCAR road race, being the first import

car to win this competition. In several other races, including the

famed Le Mans, the XK120 was aiming for victories, but

problems with clutch and brakes caused it to abandon the race

in the 21 hour. These issues brought about a change in design

that made the production model more reliable.

Chassis #660405 offered back to itsoriginal brown colour after being restored to Red in the 1990’s

with complimenting duo tone Tan and Beige Hide interior. It is a

UK supplied car with matching numbers and its original UK

registration number. In 2014 the car received a bare metal

respray and re-alignment of the body panels, alongside a full

mechanical overview. As a result the car is in outstanding

condition and is ready for use in European rallies/competitions/

shows.

As you can see from the pictures, thisstylish 4 speed manual transmission car boasts fantastic wire

wheels which gives AEN 482 a classic and sporting appearance,

furthermore, with uprated front discs and servo fitted they serve

their purpose well too.

This car is a magnificently presented example priced sensibly in today’s market. This car offers great

investment potential also as the XK retail market continues to

capture the appreciation of the next motoring generation. It

looks like we’ll be seeing XK’s dominate the pre-73 car park at

Goodwood for many years to come and AEN 482 will no doubt

be amongst them.
