This issue of our newsletter concentrates
largely on concerning rehabilitation
and projects of
Jairos Jiri Association Zimbabwe. For
more than 67 years the Association has
been addressing disability and
rehabilitation issues and today, we cover
the waterfront in the field. The magnitude of
our work is a great strength in tackling
disabilities’ complex root causes.
But it's the depth of our work at the grass-roots level that enables us to know the people with disabilities, the problems and the potential of the communities we serve. Wherever we work we look and feel like a local based organisation, with staff who live in the community and share in the hopes and frustrations of the people with disabilities and their families.
Through the pages will get an opportunity to visit various centres, establishments programmes, to learn about events taking place around the as well as hear expressions experiences being directly related people with disabilities who are currently involved in the work of organisation. We trust that you recognize the spirit of Jairos Jiri the man and goals he set for us to achieve. This our newsletter, yours and mine together,

JJA FOOD EMERGENCY PROJECT 2016-2017
JJA is implementing a food emergency project with the support from CBM.
The project is meant to increase food security and nutritional status of
people with disabilities especially children –in the JJA centres and JJA
programmes operating in the drought affected areas. The food emergency
project has 3 interventions, which are, food pack distribution, provision of
small livestock (indigenous chickens and goats), and community gardens.
The interventions are crafted in such a way that the short-term food
requirements of the households with people with disabilities are met as
well as promoting the improved medium to long-term livelihood options.
Households receiving food packs during a food pack distribution in Ward 4 of
Matobo district in Matabeleland South Province.
A total of 390 households are benefitting monthly from the food packs
which comprises of 50kg mealie meal, 4kg sugar, 2kg sugar beans, 1kg
kapenta and 2 litres of cooking oil. JJA is currently in the process of
establishing 30 gardens in the CBR operational areas. 1500 households will
benefit from the community gardens. JJA has drilled disability friendly
boreholes on each garden to ensure that water is available throughout the
season. 1950 households have each benefitted 2 hens. 780 households
have benefitted from goats, each household receiving 2 does (female
goats) and households in Matabeleland receiving 4 does each.

JJA CHILD SAFEGUARDING POLICY
FORMULATION WORKSHOP 14-15 JUNE 2017
The JJA President, Vice President, Honorary Treasurer and
National Executive Director engaged in discussions.
On 14 to 15 June 2017, the JJA delegation constituted by
the JJA Board represented by the President Dr. A.M.
Senderayi, Vice President Ms. M. Matamba and Honorary
Treasurer Mr. P. Rukodzi, the National Executive Director
Mr. W.N Ruvere, Executives, Officers, Centre Managers,
Supervisors and Care givers gathered at the Harare Club
with the impetus to formulate the JJA Child Safeguarding
Policy.
The Child Safeguarding Policy is crafted from the broader
scope of the Child Protection Policy and is aimed at
zeroing on the safety of children under the care of JJA
and also the staff members handling them. The highly
successful workshop was facilitated by Mr. Chimonyo,
the CBM Child Safeguarding Focal Person.

NATIONAL GALLERY DONATES MR. JAIROS JIRI’S
PORTRAIT On 23 August 2017, it was a fateful day of jubilation and elation
as the National Gallery of Zimbabwe represented by the
esteemed Executive Director Mrs. Doreen Sibanda and team
presented the esteemed portrait of the Late Founder of Jairos Jiri
Association Mr. Jairos Jiri MBE to the JJA Board, National
Executive Director Mr. Wilson Ruvere and staff.
The marvelous artwork which signifies the outstanding passion
and zeal to enhance the lives of persons with disabilities in
Zimbabwe was received at the JJA National Office in Milton Park,
Harare with great performances from Musician Peter Chikomba
and the revived Jairos Jiri Association Band.

NSSA DONATES TO JAIROS JIRI ASSOCIATION
On 23 June 2017, NSSA through the Chairman Mr. R.
Vela, General Manager, Mrs. Chitiga and
management team demonstrated its Corporate Social
Responsibility commitment through a humanitarian
gesture of a whopping $5000.00 donation to Jairos Jiri
Association among other selected charity
organisations. The Donation which was presented to
JJA by the Guest of Honour, Hon Minister of Public
Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Mrs. Prisca
Mupfumira at a colourful Golf event held at the Royal
Harare Golf Club will immensely augment the efforts
of the Association in improving the lives of the many
children with disabilities in its care. JJA also expresses
sincere gratitude to the top golfers who found it in
their hearts to cheerfully donate their winnings to the
Association notably Mr. R. Vela, Mr. C Makombe and
FBC bank in recognition of the sterling work JJA is
doing.

JJA represented by Bulawayo Craftshop, Luveve Furniture Factory and Burnside Farm took part in the International Sanganai/Hlanganani 2017 Tourisms Expo, held 27 Sept.– 01 Oct. 2017 held at ZITF grounds in Bulawayo. The event accorded JJA a chance to market products, network with other businesses and to negotiate business contracts. Notable meetings were held with representatives of Choma Museum, Zambia, Mrs Bevine Sangulube and Janell Crookstone from USA who showed keen interest in our handmade crafts. On May 18, 2017, the Bulawayo Metropolitan Provincial Education Director, Mrs O. Kaira officially launched the Schools Heritage Day in Luveve 5, and this event attracted about 200 delegates from wide spectrum of the Education and Creative Arts fraternity. JJA exhibited and promoted themed traditional and cultural curios, and feature furniture products during the event. From 21 to 23 June, 2017, JJA participated at the CODEPA (Coordination Committee for the Development and Promotion of African Handicrafts) exhibition, and the stand was visited by the Congo Brazzaville Minister of SMEs and Crafts, Mrs Yvonne Mougany, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of SMEs, Mrs Evelyn Ndlovu. Mrs Yvonne Mougany further visited our Bulawayo City Centre shop accompanied by the Honourable Minister of SMEs, Mrs Sithembiso Nyoni, and bought a notable array of products.

JJA KADOMA CENTRE SUCCESS STORY- DANHIKO GAMES
It was another fruitful outing for Jairos Jiri Kadoma School this year as they
retained their title on the 29th edition of the Danhiko Annual Paralympic games
that ended on the 1st October 2017.
Jairos Jiri Kadoma amassed an unassailable 238 points to claim the top sport and were rewarded with $400 for the outstanding team effort. The Jairos Jiri Association Kadoma warriors overcame stiff competition from approximately over 2000 athletes from 118 clubs partaking in various sporting disciplines such as Goal Ball, Athletics, Netball, Soccer and Wheelchair basketball among others. From all events the Centre got $1200 as prize money with athletes Kimpton Sibanda and Kudzanai Sereki being the best Goal Ball players of the event.
