Discipleship ClassesNovember through January 2013 • 11:10a - 12:00p
A Primer in Presbyterianism•James Duncan•A213Many of us have come to New Covenant from other denominations or unchurched back-grounds, and now we find ourselves members of a Presbyterian church. How did that happen? What does it mean to be Presbyterian? In this class, we’ll explore the essential features of our denomination. We’ll cover practices like infant baptism and church government, beliefs like sovereignty and predestination, as well as key people and moments in the history of our church. While not forgetting that Christ unites all believers in him, we’ll look at how and why our beliefs differ from other major denominations, including other Presbyterian denominations.
Getting More from The Bible and Getting it Right•David Rountree•A101 God writes to us with many different kinds of writings. Most often he chooses narrative and tells the most interesting and wonderful stories that inspire and instruct. Other times he speaks through the lyrics of songs, personal letters, historical records, predictive prophecies, parables and proverbs. He is brilliant but because he reveals himself and his will in such a variety of ways, we need to keep our focus on how to rightly read and study his word to get from it what he intended. Getting More from The Bible and Getting it Right will give us the tools to dili-gently present ourselves to God as scripture workmen who handle accurately the word of truth without any need to be ashamed. Not only will we gain the tools to become a good interpreter of the Word of God but in the process we will be exploring many of the more difficult, exciting, and interesting passages of God’s revelation to develop our skill at understanding the scripture rightly. Come and be enlightened, equipped, and encouraged!
The Gospel of John•Mark Burchette & Joe Noblitt•A211Have you ever thought that the Christian life is too difficult? How can I live out my faith at work? How can I be a loving parent? How can I be a godly husband or wife? How can I glorify God in all of these areas in my life when I fail so often? The answers to these questions are found in the book of John. This Gospel teaches us that our only hope in this world and the next is Christ. John 15:5 says, “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.” When we strive to live the Christian life on our own we fall flat on our faces. A fruitful life is produced when we abide in Christ instead of ourselves. Come and learn from John how to abide!
Capstone (9th-12th)David Reiter & Joey Thames•B105 (Youth Room)A combination of topical study and book-of-the-bible survey, our high school students will hear from a rotation of gifted speakers bringing a message of grace every Sunday with special em-phasis on group discussion and panel forums.

CHRISTMAS GIVING—TIME TO REV IT UP!
Our current 2013 Christmas Gift for Christ donations have in-creased to approximately $15,025. That is exciting, but it is also time, to rev it up and make it the best Christmas offering ever. We need to reach the goal of $60,000.00 for this year’s Christmas Gift so we can stay on track to com-pletely eliminate our building debt by mid 2018. We want to be completely out of debt and saving for the future needs of God’s church and kingdom.
We are clearly making headway towards debt elimination and I am very thankful for everyone who joins with the officers and me on this offer-ing. Pray, however, and pray some more that God would receive some amount if only a little, from each of us. Last year we had over 50% percent of our congregation participating in the Christmas Gift for Christ program. This year we could greatly increase this participation if we would pray. With more participation we will be getting our church completely out of debt and that will free us for more and better ministry for Christ. We want to be a church that “owes no man anything but love” (Romans 13:8).
The challenge our elders have issued is for each of us is to pray about and to earnestly pursue giving one month’s extra tithe from all that God gives us each year until we are out of debt (should take no more than four and a half more years). God builds his local churches through its members. Thank you who faithfully follow Christ and the direction of your elders.
Giving to the Christmas Gift for Christ/Debt Elimination Offering can be done at any time through our regular means by simply designating our offering as “Christmas Gift for Christ.” You may also wait to present your Christmas Gift under our church Christmas tree in December.
Merry Christmas! David Rountree

New Covenant School
In the summer of 2004, I moved with my wife from North Carolina to New Jersey. As I changed states I also moved from the realm of ‘public’ education to that of ‘private’ education. This was my first experience with a ‘private’ school, and one of the initial things I realized was that what we were doing was not ‘private’ at all. Over the last nine years I have often thought and talked about being involved with ‘private’ education. The name carries with it many negative connotations…elitist, separatist, and even un-American. I recently read an article titled “Classical Christian Education and Public Witness” by Dr. Stephen Turley which articulated well the issue. In it he said, “It is essential to understand that the public-private school dichotomy which prevails in our social arrangements and discourse is extremely misleading. This is because all education is public: all education seeks to cultivate within students an appreciation of shared values that constitute the common good of a community.” I often ask myself what values I want instilled in my own children. What do I want the basis of our community and culture to be? The answer is Christ and Christ alone. The only way we as a community will get there is by being faithful to the biblical gospel and the public witness of the church. This means that the public needs education like New Covenant School provides. A New Covenant School education will help build a culture and community with values we as Christians share.

The Jesse Tree Banner is a symbolic way of portraying the spiritual heritage of Jesus Christ. It is to be used during the season before Christmas. Each day has a scripture reading
and a symbol that corresponds. At the craft day, we will be making a banner, symbols for each day, and a notebook. It is a wonderful activity to add to your Christmas traditions!
