The February 9th meeting held at the William H.
Stanton Memorial Library was a celebration of
Georgia Day. Our guests were members of the John
Clark Chapter of the Daughters of the American
Revolution. A catered lunch by Buckeye Restaurant Madelyn Stark and Geraldine Johnson
was served.
President Madelyn Stark welcomed all and June
Cannafax gave the invocation. After pledges to the
flags, everyone joined together to sing "Dixie" and
"Georgia On My Mind".

Wilkes County. This area was greatly involved in
the American Revolution and The War Between the
States.
The Battle on Kettle Creek, fought there on February
14, 1779, was on of the most important battles of
the Revolutionary War in Georgia. The American
force defeated 700 Tories to keep the British from
occupying the entire State.
Washington was home to Robert A. Toombs, First
Secretary of Confederacy in 1861 and Confederate
General at Battle of Sharpsburg in 1862; Edward Susan Harnish
Porter Alexander, Confederate General, Chief of
Artillery for General James Longstreet at Battle of
Gettsburg; John Archibald Campbell, an Associate
Justice of U.S. Supreme Court, who resigned his post
when Georgia seceded to become Confederate
Assistant Secretary of War.

The March 8th meeting was held at the William H.
Stanton Library in Social Circle.
President Madelyn Stark welcomed Diane Wheeler
as our guest and thanked Ann Hall and Frances
Puckett for preparing today's lunch.
Madelyn received Thank-you notes from Bernice
Peacock, a Real-Daughter and shared them with us.
We were all encouraged to keep in touch with our
respective pen-pals.

Suzanne Forte reported no current activity on
supplementals. She updated us on changes to the
procedure for supplementals. The CSR of your
original ancestor and any referenced ancestor must
be included with the supplementals.
New business included plans for the Confederate
Memorial Day Observance on April 21st at the Social
Circle United Methodist Church and putting together
a nominating committee for selection of new officer
candidates. The committee consists of Ann Hall,
Susan Harnish, and Jane Williams. They will give
their report at the April meeting.

After a blessing and singing of "Blest Be the Tie"
lunch was served. Plans were finalized for the upcoming Confederate
Memorial Day Observance on April 26th. Invitations
will be extended to the Conyers and Stone Mountain

Ann Hall led us in the pledges and everyone joined

On Friday, April 20th flags were placed on the
Confederate soldiers graves in the Social Circle
City Cemetery. The Joe Wheeler SCV Camp in
Conyers helped with this task.

A warm welcome was extended to all by Mrs.

A monument was dedicated to two Watkins-
ville civilians, George Jarrell and Jacob Klutts,
taken during Stoneman's raid on August 2. 1864.
Raising of the Flags
After this ceremony, everyone traveled back
to downtown Watkinsville for a Confederate
Memorial Day Service hosted by the Laura
Rutherford Chapter #88, UDC.
Descendants of these two gentlemen still reside in
the Watkinsville area.
The Confederate Memorial Camp #1432, SCV, held
their Confederate Memorial Day Service on April
26th at the Stone Mountain City Cemetery.
Before the service flowers were placed on the 240
graves of unknown Confederate soldiers.
