CultureThe culture of Jammu and

Kashmir is a comprehensive

mingling of customs and

practices of its three distinct

regions, Kashmir, Jammu and

Ladakh. Culture of Jammu and

Kashmir is therefore an

interesting reflection of colour,

zest, harmony and concord

which makes Jammu and

Kashmir to stand apart with its

distinct features of age old

tradition and deep ethnicity.

FoodKashmiri cuisine is really a mouth

watering collection of delicacies.

They make use of good volume of

ghee which gives rich aroma to

the food. These days they have

started substituting ghee with

mustard oil just to avoid

consumption of excess fat. Rice is

the major staple food in Jammu

and Kashmir. The rice available in

Kashmir is light and very

aromatic. The dishes are purely

authentic and unique in taste.

Festivals Some of such prominent

fairs and festivals in Jammu

and Kashmir include Lohri,

Holi, Navratri, Baisakhi or

New Year , Guru Ravi Das’s

Birthday, Tihar and

Samkrant. Interestingly, all

Hindu, Muslim or Sikh fairs

and festivals are religiously

observed in the entire state.

Music and DanceJammu & Kashmir has a rich

tradition of music, dance and

drama. The folk music and dance

of the state is the lifeline of the

Kashmir's. There are various

dance forms performed according

to the. One of the popular dance

forms of the state is the Mask

Dance. As far as forms of music in

Kashmir is concerned there are

three distinct forms, viz. Sufi,

Ghazals and Choral Music.

Wanawun is another form of music

that is sung and played during

wedding ceremonies in Kashmir.

Jammu and Kashmir : Tourist Attraction

The northern most state of

India Jammu & Kashmir

has always attracted

travellers and visitors,

tourists and pilgrims to its

green heights and deep

vales. Jammu, the ‘land of

the fearless’ and the ‘land

of Gods and Goddesses’

was discovered by Raja

Jambu Lochan.
