My wife and I have always enjoyed building up young couples. Both of us come from strong families with parents and grandparents who were married over 50 years. That’s rare today, and to be able to encourage a young couple that it is possible—that God has both a plan and the power to help them—is a passion of ours.

Mentoring engaged and young married couples has been a fun way to serve our church. For some, it’s just meant meeting with them a few times to get them off on the right foot. For others, it’s continued past the wedding day. We’re able to help them build a strong foundation in their new home. These couples are a joy to get to know and they sincerely want to learn from us. We recently shared with a couple the importance of praying together daily. We told them prayer was the most important habit to build when starting a marriage. We’re confident that making prayer a priority would make a difference in so many areas

MENTORING & MARRIAGEby Tim Bell | Little Rock Campus

of their marriage. The bride-to-be stopped us at church the next Sunday to share they had started that habit and to thank us for advising them in such an important area.

We’ve certainly made mistakes in our 32-year marriage, but part of learning and growing is taking the chance to encourage others and show them a better way. We’ve found our relationship is stronger and we feel more connected with each other when we encourage young couples. Plus, it helps keep us feeling younger!

Couples today want to know how to make marriage work. They need those of us who are further along in the journey to listen, encourage and pray with them. God has given us wisdom from our journey, and through mentoring young couples we’re able to pass on this wisdom. We challenge you to consider being a mentor to influence the couples seeking the wisdom you have to share.

AND WE FEEL MORE CONNECTED WITH EACH OTHER WHEN WE ENCOURAGE YOUNG

COUPLES ...„

TEXAS BBQ, COUCHES & DISCIPLESHIP

by Jason Armstrong | Cabot Campus

Last year my family and I were wrapping up our military assignment in Italy, and looking forward to living in the states together for the first time in five years. Most of our family is from Texas, so we were selfishly hoping for a Texas assignment. For years, we’d talked about being back “home” in the San Antonio area close to family and all the Texas BBQ we could desire (we are huge foodies). So, you can imagine our surprise when the ONLY assignment available for us was Little Rock Air Force Base. My wife and I said to each other that God must have a plan if that was the only assignment. He closed all other doors and gave us a clear path to Central Arkansas. We didn’t know anything about the area and the first thing we did was research churches and local restaurants (foodies!). When we came across Fellowship, we just knew that would end up being our church home. We moved last August, found a home in Cabot and started attended the local campus. It was not long until Fellowship launched Core Groups—small, intense men’s discipleship groups. I must say, the guys I meet with each week have been a tremendous blessing to me as a man, husband and father. Again, looking back God was at work. He led us to Arkansas, to Fellowship, to a Core Group. But, He was not done there!

About six months ago, one of the guys in my Core Group asked if I could help move a couch. I didn’t think anything of it—of course I could help a buddy move a couch. Well, that simple chore has changed my world! We ended up taking the couch to an Options Pregnancy Center location in Jacksonville that was just starting up. I had never heard of Options, and when we had finished dropping off the

furniture I began discussing the mission of Options with the director. They wanted to develop a men’s counseling program that would help men that had chosen life prepare for fatherhood. I have a huge heart for men’s ministry, mentoring and discipleship. This program looked like a perfect fit to help guys navigate life at one of their most challenging times. The idea is to encourage them to love

and support their young family, to choose life and to be the men that God has called them to be. Currently, I’ve worked with Options for a few months and I meet with a young man each week. It is extremely humbling to be a part of God’s work at Options and to help men become better prepared for leading and raising families. And to think, all of this started from

moving a couch for a friend from Core Group that started out of Fellowship right here in Central Arkansas…God is good. We still miss our Texas BBQ, but we are so very thankful that Jesus has us right where He wants us.

One of my life verses is 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NIV), “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourself fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” No matter where you are at in life, or what your circumstances may be, stand firm in the truth that God has you exactly where He wants you. Every day we have an opportunity to serve a loving and gracious God, and that can look different for you than for me, but no matter the task at hand, it is never done in vain. What couch needs moving in your life?

“EVERY DAY WE HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE A LOVING AND GRACIOUS

GOD, AND THAT CAN LOOK DIFFERENT FOR YOU AND ME, BUT NO MATTER WHAT THE

TASK AT HAND IS—IT IS NEVER DONE IN VAIN.„

FOUR REASONS TO GO ONA FAMILY MISSION TRIP

by Matt Morgan | FSK Pastor

F OR I N F OR M AT ION A BOU T A N D T O S IGN U P F OR A F E L L OW S HI P M I S S ION T R I P:

fellowshiponline.com/goglobal

Is a family mission trip right for my family? Is it worth the time and investment? What will we do and experience on this trip? These are great questions that your family might wrestle with before deciding to go on a family mission trip. If you’re interested in more information, I encourage you to talk to a Missions Pastor or someone who has had the experience. In the meantime, here are four reasons to go on a family mission trip:

1

Grow in your faith & model faith for your children

Psalm 145:4 says, “One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.” As parents, we all want to equip our children to have a strong faith in Christ. Serving together on a family trip is a great way for your children to see you live out your faith as an example for them. It’s an even better way for you to see, first hand, how God is growing them into the likeness of his Son.

2

See the power of the Gospel transform the hearts

of all mankind

As you worship alongside other families, you get the chance to hear stories of how God’s grace has transformed lives and communities. Last year we walked down a street that once housed a major drug operation. As the grace of God flooded the community, that community was changed. Now, that street is the home of the Fellowship Guatemala Opportunity Center that ministers to over 60 kids. On a family trip, your family has the opportunity to experience life with Guatemalan families and see the transformative power of the Gospel.

3

Experience seven days to pray together, worship together &

fellowship together

The Family Trip schedule is designed to give your family several opportunities each day to pray, study and worship together. Mornings begin with a family devotional before heading out to serve in the community. Throughout the day, there are many opportunities to fellowship and talk as a family while serving those around you. Each night ends with a time of worship and debriefing about what you see God do that day.

4

Spark a lifestyle of service for your family that will continue

long after the trip

Before the return flight lands in Little Rock, your family will already be talking about when and how to get back to Guatemala. The experiences you’ll share with other Fellowship families and the families of Fellowship Guatemala will leave a mark on your heart. It’s an experience that pulls us out of selfishness and into a lifestyle of service. The greatest part is watching this passion for serving others grow into serving in other areas back home—like local missions!

Page 8: Jan & Feb 2016

One of the reasons I came to work at Fellowship is the close partnership our campus has with the elementary school across the street. Last spring, the principal came to the church and asked us to help with some fourth grade ladies who needed some extra guidance.

Tea Party Club was created through one of our members. For a set number of weeks, we spent time with this small group of girls and had a tea party while teaching them what it means to be a lady. I had no idea how the Lord would use us as we ministered in this unique way.

We ended in May and summer came and went. One day in September, a mom of one of the girls from Tea Party Club found her way

TEA PARTY CLUBby Amber Twigger | Benton FSK Director

to my office. She doesn’t go to Fellowship and I’m not even sure we told her where we were from. She proceeded to tell me that her now fifth grade daughter wanted to start a Bible study at school with some of her girlfriends and asked if I could help. I of course said “YES!”

The Bible study started with six girls and now includes fourteen. These girls genuinely want to learn about the Bible and have some really deep questions. Our church faithfully gave, five women were faithful to bring the Tea Party Club to this school, and one girl was called to start a Bible study. Now, fourteen girls are learning about God. This opportunity shows the influence our church Body can have when we follow God’s lead into the lives of our neighbors in our communities.

D-GROUP: SERVING BEYOND EXPECTATION

by Rita O’Kelley Stone | Little Rock Campus

Members of D Groups can expect to experience a community unlike any other, a community that meets needs and bears burdens for one another. Mark and Pamela Trover’s D Group is a shining example of this type of love. They have ministered to a beloved member, Suzie James, for many years, and they have not stopped when the needs have persisted past most people’s “comfort zones.”

Suzie’s life has been filled with many hardships and much sadness. She’s had three strokes and suffers from a chronic disease that keeps her in the ICU at times, but she isn’t without the support and love of her church family.

Chuck and Rachel Morse, also D Group leaders, have known Suzie for over 30 years. They sit with her at doctor’s appointments and lift her up during those times when sickness seems overwhelming. Suzie shares with them a heart for the inner city, serving at Dunbar and Central and mentoring, teaching, and being family to the broken.

Suzie also bears the burden of her mother’s cancer. She travels to Sherwood regularly to care for her and when the travel became a heavy burden, her church family met her need. Chuck and Rachel’s D Group came alongside the Trover D Group to help. They approached the church and were provided with help from the Benevolence Fund, which is exactly the purpose it’s meant to serve. This is a great example of Brotherhood and Sisterhood in Christ, to go and ask on behalf of another who is in need. All our communities can only hope to exhibit such active love.

While Suzie’s community is serving her like Jesus, she is serving others and connecting them to the church. A woman who visited Suzie in the hospital many times shared a

story of being changed forever by Suzie’s kindness. This woman previously had a family member who was undergoing surgery when Suzie stopped by her home. She had never met Suzie before. Suzie knew the details of the surgery through a D Group connection and lovingly supported her during this visit. This prompted the woman to attend church with her husband and she eventually became a Christian. Suzie is, according to her, “the woman who saved her life.” Suzie’s kindness during a time of need was God’s way of drawing this woman to Himself and now she is able to visit and minister to Suzie while she struggles with a life-threatening disease.

Those around her say Suzie James lives in obedience to God; a wife, mother, friend, artist, and employee. She is a faithful, giving, loving, genuine, joyful, loyal, persevering Christ-follower. She is colorful, a creative genius, and hilarious. She has lovingly served the Body of Christ throughout her days and now she is on the receiving end of that love. D Group has provided a safe environment, transparency, accountability, and help in a time of need for Suzie, as it can and should for all those who participate in it.

THE FALL OF MANKINDtaught by Brandon Barnard

Each D Café is focused on Fellowship’s Confession of Faith, which outlines what we believe as followers of Jesus Christ. In this D Café we are discussing the Fall of Mankind, its effects on all of us, and the hope we need through the Gospel. We’ll specifically discuss topics like the relationship between evil and God’s sovereignty (How can a good and holy God allow evil to exist?), the extent to which sin affects us (What does total depravity really mean?), and God’s judgment on sin (Are the God of the Old Testament and the God of the New Testament the same God?). This is a great class to be part of regardless of how long you’ve been a Christ-follower. Consider coming together as a D Group, too.

ADULT DISCIPLESHIP continued

WOMEN’S WINTER GATHERING Jan 7 | 7 pm | the WarehouseJoin us as Jen Wilkin, author of Women of the Word, from the Village church in Texas, speaks to us from Exodus 1 on God as The Great Deliverer. Even as He was delivering His people back then, He is still delivering us—our fears are stilled in the light of His presence. Come kickoff our year together—it will be a night of worship, Scripture, and challenge for the months ahead—for all of our campuses. No registration required.

IF: GATHERING Feb 5-6 | $30 | Additional donations support IFJoin this global gathering of women across denominations, generations, and cultures as we come together in the name of Jesus. For the second year we’ll ask, IF God is real, then what? We love exploring what that means in a community of women who care about each other and want to look more like Jesus. Cost will include snacks and lunch Saturday. Register at fellowshiponline.com/women.

WOMEN’S SMALL GROUPS Starting the week of Jan 11We’d love to have you join one of our small groups. These groups are held Tuesday and Thursday mornings, and Wednesday nights, with limited free child care available. Find out more about and register for Bloom, Core, Embracing Purpose, Five Aspects, Morning Edition or our Precepts small groups at fellowshiponline.com/women or call the church at 501-224-7171 and ask for Christie Greeson.

WOMEN’S NEW TESTAMENT OVERVIEW Jan 13 & 20 | 6:30 pm | in RipTide OR Jan 14 & 21 | 9:30 am | in RipTide There will be a two-week New Testament Overview open to all women. If you’re interested in attending or want more info, email Christie at [email protected].

The One whom we most need to behold has made himself known. He has traced with a fine hand the lines and contours of his face. He has done so in his Word. We must search for that face, though babies continue to cry, bills continue to grow, bad news continues to arrive unannounced, though friendships wax and wane, though both ease and difficulty weaken our grip on godliness, though a thousand other faces crowd close for our affection, and a thousand other voices clamor for our attention. By fixing our gaze on that face, we trade mere human glory for holiness. ― Jen Wilkin

MEN’S CORE GROUPSAre you looking for a way to be more consistent in God’s word, and to really understand what it is saying? A Men’s Core Group is for you. Core Groups are small groups of four to six men going through the scriptures together for about a year as you talk about life’s ups and downs–seeing how God’s Word applies to all of life. The goal is to produce transformation in your life, and motivate you to multiply what God has done in your life into the lives of others.

33 VOL. 6 A MAN AND HIS FATHERHOOD Jan 27 – Mar 2 | 6:30 am | the Warehouse Being a dad is one of the biggest blessings and one of the biggest challenges in life. Our children are a blessing from God, given to us to steward as His children. We have a perfect heavenly father who equips us to be the dad he is calling us to be. Join us for six weeks as we are equipped in our role as father.

YOUNG ADULT D GROUPSThere are always things going on through our D Group communities. To connect, email Rory at [email protected].

YOUNG ADULT SATURDAY SEMINAR: ROMANCE March 12 | 9 am-Noon | in FSMOur mission statement as a church talks about living by God’s grace. What does that mean when it pertains to matters of the heart? How has God designed romance to work, and how does the Church and the gospel empower God’s plan for romantic love? Roll out in your sweats, grab a bagel when you arrive, and join the discussion.
