Over 120 UPV Chamber members, friends and guests gathered for the PerkUp Celebration on November 7 at the new St. Luke’s Upper Bucks Hospital. With live music by Clayton Reilly, it was a festive event including a spirit pull and silent auction benefitting the PerkUp Education Initiative. Guests enjoyed samples prepared by member restaurants and drinks from local beverage purveyors. Sneak peek tours of the new state-of-the-art hospital were offered throughout the evening.

The celebration was a tribute to the sponsors and partners of the Hometown Hero Banner Program. Bill Gillespie, co-chair of the program, greeted guests and thanked the businesses, organizations and individuals. He acknowledged and thanked his co-chair, Kasey Schultz, and members of the committee noting that our entire community can be proud of the 104 Hometown Hero banners that lined our Main Streets from May through November. If you are interested in making a donation to the program, please contact that chamber or visit bit.ly/HTHDonate.

Chamber News

Crafting this message on the cusp of the New Year, I want to start by thanking you for your time and support throughout 2019 – it was a banner year! We are proud of our Hometown Hero Banner Program, our “Strength through Connections” tagline, and our commitment to community development in the Upper Perkiomen Valley. We hope you’ll begin 2020 with a commitment to strengthen our community by supporting the quality and convenience of local merchants and businesses. Copies of the 2020 business directory are available at the Chamber office and the UPVCC website on-line directory is a quick and easy reference. At the annual UPV Chamber Board meeting on December 4, the 2020 directors and officers were elected, and the budget for 2020 was approved. Please help us welcome our newest board members Dr. Allyn Roche, Superintendent of the Upper Perkiomen School District, and Sarah Scarangello, Corporate Recruiter at Blommer Chocolate Company. We thank Peter Rosenquist, US Tape Company, for his two-year tenure as chair; and congratulate Kim Detwiler, Penn Foundation, on her new leadership role. Thank you for your help congratu-lating our 2020 officers. The UPV Chamber Board is responsible for developing policy and plans, securing financial resources and serving as ambassadors for the Chamber. This newsletter highlights events for the first half of the year so please add these dates to your schedule. In addition to tried and true Chamber functions, we’re introducing a Designer Bag Bingo event to benefit PerkUp high school scholarships, and a Welcome Workplace Workshop facilitated by Pearl S. Buck International. The Business Expo & Job Fair registration form is included in this newsletter. On a personal note, I want to thank you for your kindness and compassion when my mother unexpectedly passed away in September. I felt your hugs and prayers as I rushed to South Carolina the day before the golf outing. So many people pitched in to help. I don’t know whom to thank but I’m very grateful; please accept my deepest appreciation. When we cleaned out her apartment, we found a picture of her as a volunteer at the golf outing on her 80th birthday with Jim Rembisz playing Happy Birthday on the bagpipes. She was a good mom. At 87, she had a long and active life and I’m fortunate to have had her in my life for so long. Thank you again for your support. We look forward to working with you throughout 2020,
