FEBRUARY 2011 Asian Photography 8 Jana Zilcayova Portfolio of the month J ana Zilcayova is a young photographer, originally from Slovakia. She has lived in and around South-East Asia and is perusing the degree in Fine Arts at Lasalle College of Arts. She loves to travel and likes to make social documentaries. Old film cameras are her preference! Jana uses photography as a means of self-expression, to better understand the world around her. Through the camera, she likes to observe the new and unknown and tries to acknowledge new cultures and new friends. So far, her body of work is divided into two parts. One is travel/ street voyeur style photography and documenting people living in urban environment and the second part is dealing with social themes, as in following a special body of work, such as children living in slums, prostitution, drug users, and alcoholics. — Images: Jana Zilcayova and Text: Mithila Jariwala
